Frequently Asked Questions - PerfectCare 6000 Series PSG6023 PHILIPS

How to fill the water tank?
Press the lever on the water tank handle, remove it, fill up to the MAX level (1.8 L), then replace it until it clicks.
What type of water to use in the iron?
Use tap water. If the water is hard, mix equal parts with distilled or demineralized water. Never add perfume, vinegar, starch, or other chemicals.
How to activate the steam?
Turn on the appliance, wait for the 'Iron ready' light to stay on, detach the iron and press the steam trigger. To avoid drops, hold the iron horizontally and press the trigger for 10 seconds before ironing.
Why does the iron not produce steam?
This may be due to an empty tank, a required descaling (CALC light flashing), or cooling. Check the water level and perform the Calc-Clean treatment if necessary.
How does the automatic shut-off work?
If the appliance is inactive for more than 15 minutes, the 'Iron ready' light flashes and the appliance cools down. After an additional 10 minutes without use, it turns off automatically. Always unplug after use.
How to use vertical steaming?
Hold the iron vertically, press the steam trigger and lightly touch the hanging garment with the soleplate, moving the iron from top to bottom.
What is the press effect?
Press the steam trigger twice quickly. The iron releases a powerful steam jet for 3 seconds, ideal for thick fabrics or stubborn wrinkles.
How to use MAX mode?
Hold down the on/off button for 2 seconds until the MAX light turns on. The steam is then more abundant. To deactivate, hold the button again for 2 seconds.
How to perform Calc-Clean descaling?
When the CALC light flashes (1 to 3 months), remove the tank, fill it halfway, replace it. Place the Calc-Clean tank on a flat surface, place the iron on it, then hold the CALC button for 1 second. The process takes about 2 minutes. Let it cool for 5 minutes before emptying the Calc-Clean tank.
How to store the appliance?
Turn off and unplug. Lock the iron on its support. Remove the water tank, empty it, put it back. Roll the hose into its compartment. Fold the cord with the Velcro strap. Carry the base with two hands or the iron fixed with one hand.

The Calc-Clean descaling process does not start
Frequently Asked Questions - 07/15/2026
Response Notice-Facile

If your PHILIPS PerfectCare 6000 Series PSG6023 iron does not perform the Calc-Clean descaling, here are the points to check:

Preliminary checks

  • Is the CALC light flashing? This light activates every 1 to 3 months of use. If there is no signal, descaling may not be necessary yet.
  • Is the water tank filled to halfway? Fill it exactly to the halfway mark - if it is empty, the procedure cannot start.
  • Is the Calc-Clean tank positioned correctly? Place it on a stable surface and ensure it is intended for this use (do not improvise a container).

Correct launch procedure

  • Replace the water tank until it clicks
  • Firmly place the iron on the Calc-Clean tank
  • Press and hold the CALC-CLEAN button for exactly 1 second (a short but firm press)
  • The process starts with an audible pump noise and lasts about 2 minutes
  • Wait 5 minutes before emptying the tank

If the procedure still does not start

The manual states that if descaling is not performed regularly, the steam function automatically deactivates and only reactivates after the complete execution of the Calc-Clean treatment. Ensure that you have followed all the previous steps correctly. If the button still does not respond, contact PHILIPS support mentioning model PSG6023 - a defect in the button or internal system may be the cause.

My iron's pump makes a ticking noise and steam is not coming out - how can I solve this problem?
Frequently Asked Questions - 07/15/2026
Response Notice-Facile

Don't worry: the ticking noise you hear is normal. It is the regular operation of the pump of the PerfectCare 6000 Series PSG6023, which activates every time you press the steam trigger.

If steam is not coming out, here are the solutions:

  • Wait 30 seconds on first use. The manual states that the system requires about 30 seconds before emitting steam on first use.
  • Perform a 10-second activation before starting. Hold the steam trigger for about 10 seconds before your first pass to prime the system and avoid water splashes.
  • Check the water level. If the tank is empty, the pump will make a louder noise but will not produce steam. Fill the tank (capacity 1.8 L) with tap water.
  • Check the descaling status. If the CALC light is flashing, it means that automatic descaling is necessary. Hold the CALC-CLEAN button for 1 second to start the process (duration 2 minutes).

The noise from the pump (clicking) is therefore perfectly normal and does not indicate a malfunction.

Cleaning and maintenance

Smart Calc-Clean System

Your appliance has been designed with a Smart Calc-Clean system to ensure that descaling and cleaning is done regularly. This helps to maintain a strong steam performance and prevents dirt and stains coming out of the soleplate over time. To ensure that the cleaning process is performed, the appliance gives regular reminders.

Performing the Calc-Clean process with the Calc-Clean container

Warning: Do not leave the appliance unattended during the Calc-Clean process.

Caution: Always perform the Calc-Clean process with the Calc-Clean container. Do not interrupt the process by lifting the iron up from the Calc-Clean container, as hot water and steam will come out of the soleplate.

Note: Make sure that the appliance is plugged in and switched ON during the Calc-Clean process.

Type of water to use

You can use tap water in the appliance. However, if you live in an area with hard water, we recommend mixing it with an equal amount of distilled or demineralized water. This prevents rapid scale buildup and extends the appliance's service life.

Do not add perfumed water, dryer water, vinegar, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids, chemically descaled water, or other chemicals, as they may cause leaking, brown stains, or damage to your appliance.
