PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS

The grass and shrub shears are a universal and portable tool which does not require an external power source. It is designed for decorative trimming of grass in places inaccessible to conventional lawn mowers, e.g. near the walls of buildings, fences, around trees and shrubs, path edges, lawn edges, etc., as well as for cutting small branches and decorative trimming of hedges. The shears have interchangeable attachments: for grass and hedge trimming. Proper, reliable and safe operation of the power tool depends on appropriate use, that is why you should:

Read the entire instructions manual before the first use of the tool and keep it for future reference.

The tool is designed for household use only and must not be used professionally, i.e. in workplaces or for paid work. The supplier shall not be liable for any damage resulting from failure to comply with the safety instructions and recommendations specified in this instructions manual.

EQUIPMENT

The factory packaging should contain shears with a grass trimming attachment, a hedge trimming attachment and a mains charger. The 79503 model's equipment also includes an adjustable-length holder with a power switch and a base with wheels.

The term "power tool" used in warnings applies to all tools driven by power both wired and wireless.

Workplace safety

Keep the workplace well-lit and clean. Disorder and poor lighting can be causes of accidents.

Do not work with power tools in an environment with an increased risk of explosion, containing flammable liquids, gases or vapors. Power tools generate sparks that can ignite dust or fumes.

Children and third persons should not be allowed to enter the workplace. Loss of concentration can result in loss of control.

Electrical safety

The plug of the electric cable must match the power socket. You must not modify the plug in any way. Do not use any plug adapters with earthed power tools. An unmodified plug that fits the outlet reduces the risk of electric shock.

Avoid contact with earthed surfaces such as pipes, radiators and coolers. Grounding the body increases the risk of electric shock.

Do not expose power tools to contact with atmospheric precipitation or moisture. Water and moisture that gets inside the power tool increases the risk of electric shock.

Do not overload the power cable. Do not use the power cord to carry, pull or unplug the power plug from the power outlet.

Avoid contact of the power cable with heat, oils, sharp edges and moving parts. Damage or entanglement of the power cord increases the risk of electric shock.

In the case of working outside closed rooms, use extension cords intended for work outside closed rooms. The use of an extension cord adapted for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.

When using a power tool in a humid environment is unavoidable as a protection against supply voltage use a residual current device (RCD). The use of RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

Stay alert, pay attention to what you do and keep common sense while working with the power tool. Do not use a power tool when you are tired or under the influence of alcohol or medication. Even a moment of inattention while working can lead to serious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. The use of personal protective equipment such as dust masks, anti-slip safety shoes, helmets and hearing protection reduce the risk of serious personal injury.

Prevent accidental operation. Make sure that the electric switch is in the “off” position before connecting to the power supply and / or battery, lifting or moving the power tool. Moving the power tool with the finger on the switch or powering the power tool, when the switch is in the “on” position can lead to serious injuries.

Before turning on the power tool remove any keys and other tools that were used to adjust it. The key left on the rotating parts of the power tool can lead to serious injuries.

Do not reach and do not lean too far. Keep the right attitude and balance all the time. This will allow easier control over the power tool in case of unexpected work situations.

Dress accordingly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewelry. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts of the power tool. Loose clothing, jewelry or long hair can be caught by moving parts.

If the devices are fitted for the connection of dust extraction or dust collection, make sure that they are connected and used properly. The use of dust extraction reduces the risk of dust hazards.

Do not let the experience acquired from frequent use of the tool resulted in carelessness and ignoring safety rules.

Carefree action can cause serious injuries in a fraction of a second.

Use and care of the power tool

Do not overload the power tool. Use the power tool appropriate for the selected application. The right power tool will provide a better and safer job if used according to the designed load.

Do not use the power tool, if the electric switch does not allow switching on and off. Power tool, which cannot be controlled by means of a power switch is dangerous and must be returned for repair.

Disconnect the plug from the power socket and / or remove the battery if it is detachable from the power tool before adjusting, changing accessories or storing the tool. Such preventive measures will allow you to avoid accidentally turning on the power tool.

Keep the tool out of the reach of children, do not let people who do not know how to operate the power tool or these instructions use a power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain power tools and accessories. Check the tool for mismatches or jams of moving parts, damage to parts and any other conditions that may affect the operation of the power tool. Damage must be repaired before using the power tool. Many accidents are caused by incorrectly maintained tools.

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp edges are less prone to jamming and are easier to control when working.

Use power tools, accessories and inserted tools etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the type and conditions of work. The use of tools for work other than designed is likely to result in a dangerous situation.

Handles and gripping surfaces must be dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and gripping surfaces do not allow for safe operation and control of the tool in dangerous situations.

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR HEDGE SHEARS

Safety warnings for hedge shears

Keep all body parts away from the blades. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving.

The blades continue to move after the power switch has been turned off. A moment of inattention while operating the hedge shears may result in serious personal injury.

Carry the hedge shears by the handle with the blades stopped and pay attention not to operate any of the power switches. Proper handling of the hedge shears reduces the risk of unintentional start-up and the risk of personal injury from the blades.

When transporting or storing the hedge shears always fit the blade guard. Proper handling of the hedge shears will reduce the risk of personal injury from the blades.

When removing jammed material or servicing the unit, make sure that all power switches are turned off and the power cord or battery is disconnected. Unexpected start-up of the hedge shears while clearing a jam or servicing can result in serious personal injury.

Hold the hedge shears by the insulated surfaces only, as the blade may come into contact with a concealed cable or power cord. Blades contacting a live wire may make the metal parts of the hedge shears live and lead to an electric shock of the operator.

Keep all power cords and cables away from the cutting area. Power cords or cables can be hidden in hedges or bushes and can be accidentally cut by the blade.

Do not use the hedge shears in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This reduces the risk of lightning strikes.

Additional safety instructions for pole hedge shears

To reduce the risk of electric shock, never use hedge shears on a pole near any electrical power lines. Contact with or the use of the hedge shears near power lines may lead to serious injury or electric shock resulting in death.

Always use both hands when working with pole hedge shears. Hold the pole hedge shears with two hands to avoid losing control.

Always use head protection when working with the pole hedge shears. Falling debris can cause serious injury.

GRASS SHEARS SAFETY WARNINGS

Do not use the grass shear in bad weather conditions, especially when there is a risk of lightning. This decreases the risk of being struck by lightning.

Keep all power cords and cables away from cutting area. Power cords or cables may be hidden and can be accidentally cut by the blade.

Wear ear protection. Adequate protective equipment will reduce the risk of hearing loss.

Hold the grass shear by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the blade may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.

Blades contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the grass shear “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.

Keep all parts of the body away from the blade. Do not remove cut material or hold material to be cut when blades are moving. Blades continue to move after the switch is turned off. A moment of inattention while operating the grass shear may result in serious personal injury.

When clearing jammed material or servicing the grass shear, make sure the power switch is off and the power cord is disconnected. Unexpected actuation of the grass shear while clearing jammed material or servicing may result in serious personal injury.

Carry the grass shear by the handle with the blade stopped and taking care not to operate the power switch. Proper carrying of the grass shear will decrease the risk of inadvertent starting and resultant personal injury from the blades.

When transporting or storing the grass shear, always use the blade cover. Proper handling of the grass shear will decrease the risk of personal injury from the blades.

EQUIPMENT INSTALLATION

The shears are supplied complete. The device has two interchangeable tools i.e. grass trimming attachment and hedge trimming attachment, which must be used according to the instructions in the manual.

Warning! All operations mentioned in this chapter must be carried out with the device turned off. Make sure that the tool's power switch is not pressed and that the safety key has been removed from the tool.

Installing the grass and hedge trimming attachments

The attachments have sharp edges, that is why it is recommended to be careful and replace them while wearing protective gloves. The replacement does not require any additional tools.

Press and hold both the attachment lock buttons (II). Put the attachment on the tool housing so that the attachment mounting part fits the tool housing around the entire circumference. Release the pressure on the buttons. This will cause the attachment latches to slide into the mounting holes in the housing and lock the attachment in the tool (III).

Correctly installed attachment cannot be removed in other manner than by pressing both lock buttons and removing it from the tool.

Installing the adjustable-length holder (applies only to 79503)

The holder is mounted to the rear lower part of the tool housing. Insert the holder into the guides cut on both sides of the tool housing (IV) so that it snaps on the side and bottom wall of the housing (V). After mounting the holder to the housing, connect the holder cable to the socket in the tool handle (V). This will allow the tool to be controlled by means of a power switch located in the holder grip.

To remove the holder gently pull the latch on the bottom of the housing and then pull the tool out of the holder.

PREPARING FOR WORK

Adjusting the additional holder (applies only to 79503)

Warning! All operations mentioned in this section must be carried out with the device turned off. Make sure that the tool's power switch is not pressed and that the safety key has been removed from the tool.

The additional holder allows you to rotate the shears from -90 degrees to +90 degrees. This allows for edge trimming of the lawn. To adjust the angle, pull the front part of the holder, then rotate and release so that the front and rear parts of the holder rejoin along the entire circumference (VII). Check that the holder does not change the position inadvertently during operation.

The holder also allows for changing the length to adjust the tool to the height of the operator. Loosen the longer part of the length adjustment (VIII). Extend the holder to the desired length and tighten the longer part of the length adjustment to prevent the possibility of changing the holder length.

Safety key

Due to the inability to remove the battery, and thus completely disconnect the tool from the power supply, the tool has been equipped with a safety key. Pulling the key out of the socket prevents the tool from being turned on unintentionally. Starting the tool will be possible only after inserting the key into the tool's socket (IX). The key is attached to the housing with a short cord, which prevents the key from being lost when it is ejected from the socket.

The key should be ejected from the socket each time: - before leaving the tool unattended, - before assembling and disassembling the working attachment, - before starting service or adjustment activities, - before removing the cause of blade jamming, - before assembling and disassembling the additional holder.

If the key is not removed from the socket, there is a risk of inadvertent activation of the tool, which may result in serious injuries.

Charging the battery

Connect the charger cable plug to the charger socket located in the tool handle (IX), then connect the charger to the mains socket. The status lamp above the socket will light up red to indicate that the battery charging process has started. When charging is complete, the status lamp will turn green.

Immediately after charging is complete, disconnect the charger from the mains socket and then disconnect the charger from the tool. Leaving the charged tool connected to the charger may cause damage to the battery and cause fire or electric shock.

Do not operate the tool during charging.

Safety instructions for battery charging

Caution! Before starting charging, make sure that the power unit body, cable and plug are not cracked or damaged. It is forbidden to use a defective or damaged charging station and power unit! Use only the supplied charging station and power unit to charge the batteries. The use of another power unit may result in fire or damage to the tool. The battery should only be charged in a closed, dry room, protected against unauthorised access, especially by children. Do not use the charging station and power unit without the constant supervision of an adult! If you need to leave the room where the tool is being charged, disconnect the charger from the mains by removing the power unit plug from the mains socket. If smoke, suspicious odours, etc. are escaping from the charger, remove the charger plug from the mains socket immediately!

The shears are supplied with an uncharged battery and should therefore be charged according to the procedure described below with the included power unit and charging station before use. Li-ion (lithium-ion) batteries do not have the so-called “memory effect”, which allows them to be recharged at any time. However, it is recommended to discharge the battery during normal operation and then charge it to full capacity. If, due to the nature of work, it is not possible to use the battery in such a manner every time, it should be done at least every several work cycles. Never discharge any batteries by short-circuiting the battery plates, as this will cause irreparable damage! In addition, do not check the battery charge status by short-circuiting the electrodes and checking their sparking.

Storing the battery

Ensure the proper storage conditions to extend the battery's life. The battery can withstand approximately 500 charge-discharge cycles. Store the battery at a temperature ranging from 0^ to 30^ at a relative air humidity of 50% . Charge the battery to approx. 70% of its total capacity to store it for a longer period of time. In case of prolonged storage, the battery should be periodically charged once a year. Do not over-discharge the battery as this will shorten its life and may cause irreparable damage.

During storage, the battery will gradually discharge due to leakage. The self-discharge process depends on the storage temperature – the higher the temperature is, the faster the discharge process is. If the batteries are stored incorrectly, the electrolyte may leak. In case of leakage, secure the leak with a neutralising agent. In the case of electrolyte contact with eyes, rinse eyes thoroughly with water, and immediately seek medical attention. It is not allowed to use the tool with a damaged battery. If the battery is completely worn, return it to a specialist waste disposal centre.

Transporting the batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are treated as hazardous goods according to legal regulations. The user of the tool can transport the product together with the battery and the batteries alone by land. In that case, no additional conditions have to be met. If you entrust transport to third parties (e.g. a courier company), follow the regulations regarding the transport of hazardous goods. Before shipping, please contact a properly qualified person.

It is not allowed to transport damaged batteries. For the duration of transport, remove the demountable batteries from the product and secure the exposed contacts, e.g. by covering them with insulation tape. Protect the batteries in the packaging in such a way that they do not move inside the packaging during transport. National regulations for the transport of hazardous materials must also be observed.

Charging the battery

Caution! The device's LED located on the front of the housing indicates when the battery should be charged.

Connect the power unit plug to the socket in the device housing (II). Connect the power unit to the mains. Above the device socket, a red LED will light up. The end of charging is indicated by a change in the light colour to green. When the battery is charged, disconnect the power unit from the mains socket, and then disconnect the power unit plug from the device.

Caution! The best charging effects are achieved at an ambient temperature in the range of 18 – 24°C. It is forbidden to charge if the ambient temperature is below 4°C or above 40°C.

Caution! During the charging process, the device handle and power unit may become hot, which is a normal phenomenon.

Caution! The device power switch does not work during the charging process. The device cannot be turned on.

Preparatory actions for operation

Use working tools appropriate for the work to be carried out. Ensure that they are in good condition, sharpened, free from rust and mechanical damage. The parts of the attachments in contact with the drive unit must be free of mechanical impurities and lubricated with gear grease before use. Wear work clothing, gloves and eye protection. Check the hedge for foreign objects, for example, wires.

USING THE TOOL

Before starting work, check that the housing body is not damaged. If necessary, clean the tool of dirt and clean the motor ventilation openings. It is forbidden to proceed with work in case of observing damage! Do not expose the tool to moisture. Do not use the hedge shears during precipitation. Do not use the hedge shears in a humid and wet environment. Before using the tool, it is recommended to ask your dealer or specialist to demonstrate how to use the tool safely and effectively. Do not allow children and minors to use the tool. Do not rent or lease the tool to any third party unless you have provided them with this manual. Make sure that each person using the tool has read the manual carefully and understood all the information contained there. Do not modify the tool in any way. Do not use the hedge shears in the immediate vicinity of bystanders, children or animals. It is recommended to keep at least a 5 m distance from the place where the tool is used. Wear individual hearing protection measures during operation. Do not turn on the hedge shears if the operator's hands and feet are in close proximity to the tool's cutting part. Never leave the tool without adult supervision. If during work the operation of the tool seems suspicious (increased vibration, noise, odour, etc.), it should be immediately turned off and handed over to a repair centre. The tool must be regularly maintained and kept clean. The motor ventilation openings must be kept clear at all times. Read the instructions manual carefully. Familiarise yourself with the controls and the correct use of the machine. Never allow children or persons who have not read these instructions to use the machine. Local regulations may restrict the operator's age. The device must not be used by children or persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, including persons without experience or knowledge of how to use the device safely. Bear in mind that the operator or the user is responsible for accidents and hazards to other people or their properties. Wear eye protection, full protective footwear and long pants protecting the operator's legs during work. Avoid using the tool during bad weather, especially when there is a risk of lightning. Work only in daylight or in good artificial lighting. Never use the tool with damaged guards or without properly installed guards. The tool's motor should only be turned on when the cutting element is away from the operator's hands and feet. Take measures to prevent injuries to hands and feet from the cutting element.

Turning the tool on and off

The tool has a power switch lock to reduce the risk of the accidental turn-on. To start the motor, slide the lock button with your thumb and press the power switch button (X) with your index finger while holding the lock button. When holding the power switch, release the pressure on the lock button. To turn off the tool's motor, simply release the pressure of the index finger on the power switch button. The cutting element may still be in motion for some time after turning off the tool.

In the case of the tool model 79503 with the additional holder installed, the power switch and the lock located on the grip of the additional holder should be used for activation. The power switch and lock are operated in the same way as the handle of the tool itself (XI).

The power switch of both the tool handle and the additional holder grip cannot be locked in the on position.

Grass trimming

Grass can only be trimmed with a dedicated attachment. Observe the following rules when trimming the grass: Guide the shears in such a way that the cutting part is not between the hand holding the tool and the operator's torso. Pay particular attention that the operator's hands and feet are not in close proximity to the cutting parts of the tool. Grasses higher than 15 – 20 cm should be cut in two stages, initially in the upper part, and then in the lower part (closer to the soil). The shears are not designed for mowing larger areas of grass over 2 m^2 . When cutting grass, make sure that the cutting parts do not directly touch the soil, stones, lignified plant parts, etc., as this may cause anger to the user, as well as damage to the shears and the entire device.

Hedge trimming

Only use the dedicated attachment for trimming hedges. The shears allow for the decorative shaping of small areas of hedges. The following rules must be followed when trimming: Do not cut too thick and lignified twigs of the hedge; the maximum diameter is specified in the technical data table. Pay particular attention that the operator's hands and feet are not in close proximity to the cutting parts of the tool. If lignified hedge twigs get stuck in the cutting area of the shears, immediately turn off the shears by removing the finger from the power switch then remove the safety key from the socket and carefully, taking care not to get hurt, remove the stuck twig from the shears cutting part.

Procedure in the case of jamming the cutting element

In the event of a sudden stop of the cutting element during operation, for example, as a result of an attempt to cut a too thick element, release the pressure on the power switch and make sure that it is in the off position. Remove the safety key from the tool socket. If the cause of the jam can be eliminated easily and quickly, it is not necessary to disassemble the cutting element, but it is recommended. However, if the cause of the jam cannot be eliminated easily and quickly, remove the cutting element and proceed to remove the cause of the jam.

If the user has doubts as to how to remove the cause of the jamming of the cutting element, always disassemble it first.

After removing the cause of jamming, check whether the cutting element has not been damaged or deformed. If any are found, replace the cutting element with a new one that is free of defects. Do not repair the cutting element yourself, for example, straight-en the blades. Working with a damaged or improperly repaired cutting element can lead to injury or damage to the machine.

Additional notes

Take regular breaks during work.

Do not overload the tool. The temperature of the external surface must never exceed 60^ C. After finishing work, turn off the shears, disconnect the battery and perform maintenance and inspection.

Storage

Store the product in a closed and shaded place in a room with ventilation. The place of storage should be out of the reach of children. Charge the battery and disconnect the cutting element before long-term storage (several months and longer). Clean and coat the cutting element with a thin layer of general purpose lubricating oil to prevent rust. Secure the blades with the guards provided with the tool. In case of a very long storage period, it is recommended to charge the battery every six months.

Before each start of work, inspect the tool for wear and damage. Only work with an operational and fully equipped tool.
