SAFETY INFORMATION

The Meter complies with Measurement Categories II (CAT II 1000V) and Pollutic Degree 2.

To avoid possible electric shock or personal injury, follow these guidelines

- Do not use the Meter if it is damaged. Before you use the Meter, inspect the Pay particular attention to the insulation surrounding the connectors.

- Inspect the test leads for damaged insulation or exposed metal. Check the test leads for continuity. Replace damaged test leads before you use the Meter.

- Do not use the Meter if it operates abnormally. Protection may be impaired. When in doubt, have the Meter serviced.

- Do not operate the Meter around explosive gas, vapor, or dust.

- Do not apply more than the rated voltage, as marked on the Meter, between terminals or between any terminal and earth ground.

- Before use, verify the Meter's operation by measuring a known voltage.

- When servicing the Meter, use only specified replacement parts.

- Use caution when working with voltages above 30V ac rms, 42V ac peak, or 6 dc. Such voltages pose a shock hazard.

- When using the probes, keep your fingers behind the finger guards on the probes.

- When making connections, connect the common test lead before you connect the live test lead. When you disconnect test leads, disconnect the live test lead first.

- Remove the test leads from the Meter before you open the battery cover or the case.

- Do not operate the Meter with the battery cover or portions of the case removal or loosened.

- To avoid false readings which could lead to possible electric shock or personal injury, replace the battery as soon as the low battery in □ appears.

- Do not use the Meter in a manner not specified by this manual, or the safety features of the Meter may be impaired.

- When measuring current, turn off circuit power before connecting the Meter in the circuit. Remember to place the Meter in series with the circuit.

- Do not operate the Meter if your hand or the Meter is wet.

- Do not touch any naked conductor with hand or skin, and do not ground yours

- Remaining endangerment:

When an input terminal is connected to a dangerous live potential, it is to be no that this potential at all other terminals can occur!

- CAT II - Measurement Category II is for measurements performed on circuits directly connected to low voltage installation. Examples are measurements on household appliances, portable tools and similar equipment.

Do not use the Meter for measurements within Measurement Categories III and I'

Caution

To avoid possible damage to the Meter or to the equipment under follow these guidelines:

  • Disconnect circuit power and discharge all capacitors thoroughly before testing resistance, continuity, diode, capacitance or temperature.
  • Use the proper terminals, function and range for your measurements.
  • Before measuring current, check the Meter's fuses.
  • Before turning the rotary switch to change function/range, remove the test leads from the circuit under test.

16. Analog bar graph

The bar graph at the bottom of the LCD is an analog display. The length of its lit segments is proportional to the displayed reading in the middle of the LCD.

The bar graph is like the needle on an analog meter. It has an overload indicator to its right and a negative polarity indicator to its left.

The number of lit segments indicates the measured value and is relative the full-scale value of the selected range.

In the 600V range, for example, the major divisions on the scale represe 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600V, respectively. An input of -100V light the negative sign, and the lit segments up to the 10 on the scale.

Temperature

Note:

To avoid possible damage to the meter or other equipment, remember that while the meter is rated for -40^ to 1000^ and -40^ to 1832^ , the K Type Thermocouple provided with the meter is rated to 250^ .

The K Type Thermocouple is not professional and can only be used for non-critic measurements. For accurate measurements, use a professional thermocouple.

  1. Set the rotary switch to ^ C/ ^ F.
  2. Connect the negative plug of the K Type thermocouple to the COM terminal at the positive plug to tr _O-H·················································· terminal.
  3. Connect the sensing end of the thermocouple to the object to be measured.
  4. Wait until thermal equilibrium between the thermocouple probe and the object reached. The primary display shows temperature in Celsius while the secondary display shows temperature in Fahrenheit.

Non-Contact AC Voltage Detection

  1. Set the rotary switch to . The Meter defaults to non- contact AC voltage detection function. The primary display shows .
  2. Move the Meter top (where the NCV sensor is located, refer to Figure 1) close

the object under test. The Meter will indicate the electric field strength detected. The electric field strength is indicated by the primary display, the flashing rate of the orange backlight, and the beeping rate of the built-in buzzer.

The primary display shows when a strong electric field is detected, and --LO for weak fields. The stronger the electric field detected, the faster the flashing rate of the orange backlight and the beeping rate of the buzzer.

Note:

  1. Detection Range: 90V to 750V Response Frequency: 50HZ/60Hz
  2. The Meter's electric field strength indication is affected by the magnitude of the AC voltage of the conductor under test, the distance between the Meter and the conductor, the insulation of the conductor, etc.
  3. Because of the Meter's detection limit, a conductor under test may be electrically live even if the Meter does not indicate the presence of a electric field
  4. Before use, verify the Meter's operation by detecting a known AC voltage. Do not use the Meter if it operates abnormally.
  5. To avoid electric shock, do not touch any conductor with hand or skin.

Live AC Wire Detection

  1. Set the rotary switch to .
  2. Briefly press the SELECT button until is displayed.
  3. Connect the red test lead to +10 Hz% Live°C°F terminal and the probe tip of this test lead to the socket or bare wire under test. When detecting a live wire, the secondary display shows-, the orange backlight flashes, and the buzzer beeps continuously.

Note:

  1. Because of the Meter's detection limit, a wire under test may be live even if the Meter does not give any indication.
  2. Before use, verify the Meter's operation by detecting a known AC voltage. Do not use the Meter if it operates abnormally.
  3. To avoid electric shock, do not touch any conductor with hand or skir
  4. To avoid interference, do not use the Meter in an environment with intense electromagnetic field.

Automatic Power-Off

The Meter automatically turns off if the rotary switch is not moved or a button is not pressed for 15 minutes. Pressing a button or turning the ro switch will turn the Meter back on after it is powered off automatically. To disable automatic power-off, press and hold the SELECT button while turning the rotary switch from the OFF setting to other switch settings. TI symbol is absent from the display.

MAINTENANCE

Except replacing the battery and fuses, never attempt to repair or service the Meter.

Store the Meter in a dry place when not in use. Don't store it in an environment with intense electromagnetic field.

General Maintenance

Periodically wipe the case with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent. Do not abrasives or solvents.

Dirt or moisture in terminals can affect readings. Clean terminals as follows:

  1. Set the rotary switch to OFF and remove all the test leads from the Meter.
  2. Shake out any dirt which may exist in terminals.
  3. Soak a new swab with alcohol.
  4. Work the swab around in each terminal.

Note: If the Meter fails, check and replace (as needed) the battery and fuses and/or review this manual to verify proper use of the Meter.

Battery and Fuse Replacement

Warning

  1. To avoid false readings which could lead to possible electric shock or
personal injury, replace the battery as soon as the low battery indicator appears.

  2. To prevent damage or injury, install only specified tuses.

  3. Remove the test leads and turn off the Meter before opening the battle cover or the case.
