GETTING STARTED & APPLIANCE INSTALLATION
SWITCHING ON THE MACHINE

Danger: Connect the appliance to a grounded 230V socket. Otherwise, you expose yourself to fatal injuries due to the presence of electricity! Respect the safety information stated in the leaflet "Safety Information".
GETTING STARTED (See 1. 1ST use)
Respect the safety information stated in the leaflet "Safety information". Place the appliance on a stable, heat-resistant, clean and dry work surface. Priming the machine allows the water circuits to be filled, so that the machine can operate. Preheating and automatic rinsing will take place. For more information see chapter 1 FT USE of the quick start guide. Once you have finished setting it up, the machine automatically chooses a recipe by default. You can make your first coffee
PUTTING THE MACHINE ON STANDBY
Depending on the preparation, the machine performs automatic rinsing when it is put on standby. The cycle lasts only a few seconds and stops automatically.

Hints and Tips
The quality of the water strongly influences the quality of the aromas. Limescale and chlorine can alter the taste of coffee. To preserve all the aromas of your coffee, we recommend that you use a KRUPS Claris Aqua Filter System cartridge, with dry residue below 800 mg/L. See chapter page 8 of the "INSTALLING THE FILTER" leaflet
When preparing drinks we recommend using preheated cups (by passing them under hot water), whose size is adapted to your desired quantity.
The roasted coffee beans can lose their aroma if they are not protected. We advise you to use the amount of beans equivalent to your consumption over the next 2-3 days and to choose 250 g bags.
The quality of coffee beans is variable and tastes are subjective. Arabica will give you fine, floral aromas unlike Robusta which is higher in caffeine, more bitter and full-bodied. It is common to mix the two types of coffee to get a more balanced coffee. Please do not hesitate to seek advice from your roaster.
We do not recommend the use of oily and caramelised beans as these can damage the machine.
The fineness of the ground beans influences the strength of the aromas and the quality of the crema. The more finely ground the beans, the smoother the crema. Grinding can also be adapted for the desired drink.

INSTALLING THE FILTER
WHY INSTALL A FILTER CARTRIDGE?
The KRUPS Claris Aqua Filter System cartridge helps to optimize the taste of your coffee, to limit the build-up of limescale and to reduce maintenance operations. To ensure that your machine has a long life, we recommend that you use a filter cartridge. This accessory is available from the KRUPS.fr website.
WHEN SHOULD YOU CHANGE THE CLARIS AQUA FILTER SYSTEM CARTRIDGE?

- 2 months after installation.
- We advise that, when you install your cartridge, you turn the grey ring at the far end of the filter cartridge to show the date of installation + 2 months.
HOW TO INSTALL THE CLARIS AQUA FILTER SYSTEM CARTRIDGE

- Your machine should be plugged in and switched on
- The cartridge is placed in the water tank - Place the cartridge with the numbered ring at the top - Use the black screwing accessory supplied with the cartridge to properly position and screw in the cartridge - On your illuminated screen press for 3 seconds. A beep will confirm entry into the installing the filter menu. Place a container under the nozzles. - The button flashes and the coffee rinsing starts. - Press = to initiate use of the filter. - The lights under the recipes will fade in and out during installation. - Installation is complete when the light is steady again.

GRINDER: ADJUSTING THE GRINDING FINENESS
You can adjust the strength of your coffee by adjusting the grinding fineness of the coffee beans.
Varying the grinding fineness makes it possible to adapt to different types of bean:
- A highly roasted and oily bean will require a coarse grinding,
- A more lightly roasted bean will be drier and will require a fine grinding.
Note: the finer the grinding, the more powerful the aroma.

HOW TO ADJUST THE GRINDING FINENESS
Turn the setting button located in the coffee bean container (I) to suit your bean type and the desired aroma intensity. This adjustment must be performed during grinding and notch by notch. After 3 preparations you will notice a distinct difference in taste.

Caution: We do not recommend the use of oily and caramelised beans as these are difficult for the grinder to process. These can damage the machine and lead to poor sensor performance.

MILKY DRINKS

Hints & Tips
To make frothy milk, you should opt for pasteurised UHT milk from the fridge (3-5°C). The use of special milks (micro filtered, raw, fermented, enriched) or plant milks (rice, oat or almond) can give results that are less satisfactory in terms of the quality and quantity of froth. Once the bottle opened, milk, either in plastic or glass bottle, should be stored in a refrigerator at 4°C or below at all times. It usually can be stored between 5 and 7 days.
HOW TO START PREPARING A MILKY DRINK
- Connect the milk tube to the right side of the "One Touch Cappuccino" block.
- Immerse the other end of the tube (metallic side) in a container filled with milk or directly in your milk bottle.
- Place the cup(s) under the nozzles.
- Press the "Cappuccino", "Macchiato", or "Caffe Latte" button. If required, personalise your drink (size, coffee strength, x2, extra shot).
- Press START/STOP.
• The preparation will start with milk frothing followed by coffee flow or vice-versa depending on the recipe.
These stages will take place automatically, then your drink is ready for drinking.
For more information see the beginning of chapter 5.A "MAKE A MILK RECIPE" of the quick start guide.
Important: At the end of each recipe, the machine suggests a milk rinsing. We recommend that you do this to ensure optimum hygiene and the proper operation of your milk system. See Chapter 5.B "QUICK RINSE AFTER A MILKY DRINK (30s)" of the quick start guide.

FAVOURITES FUNCTION
WHAT IS THE FAVOURITES FUNCTION FOR?
The Favourites function allows you to access your preferred drink with your saved personalised settings. See chapter 2 "PREPARING DRINKS" of the quick start guide.
Quick and perfect for your day-to-day life, simply press START to begin making your drink at the touch of a button, without having to change the settings for your favourite recipes every time. You can save up to 2 personalised recipes by adjusting the volume, the coffee strength, the number of cups and the extra shot function.
HOW TO CREATE A FAVOURITE
You can save a favourite A and a favourite B. See chapter 3 "SAVE YOUR FAVOURITE SETTINGS" of the quick start guide.
- Saving a favourite can only be done after the recipe has finished. You then have 5 seconds to press the Favourites function and save your preferred drink as A or B.
- You can personalise your volume by stopping the recipe as it is being poured. Press of that recipe that has been poured can then be saved under favourites.

Select your favourite: Favourite A appears. If you press again then favourite B appears. Press START/STOP
For more information see the beginning of chapter 4 "PREPARING A FAVOURITE DRINK" of the quick start guide.
CAN I CHANGE MY FAVOURITE DRINKS?
It is not possible to amend a favourite that has already been created. To replace a favourite, start making a drink using the desired settings and save it as the favourite that you want to amend. If you save a favourite when a recipe has already been saved, it will be overwritten.

GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Carrying out proper maintenance will prolong the life of your machine and preserve the authentic taste of your coffee.
For hygienic reasons, it is recommended to rinse the coffee system daily or when not used for a longer period (more than 2 days). You have the possibility of setting up an automatic rinsing which guarantees the preservation of best coffee flavor and an optimal hygiene. Please refer at the chapter OTHER FUNCTIONS.
MAINTENANCE WARNINGS
A warning message will appear on the screen when you need to carry out an action:
- The red warning LED means that you need to take action in order to ensure that your machine continues working optimally.
- The white warning LED means that the machine is recommending that you take action.
A pictogram will specify which action should be undertaken.

The drip tray receives used water and the coffee grounds container receives extracted grounds.

Important: The drip tray allows you to collect the water or the coffee that flows from the appliance during and after preparations. It is important to always leave it in place and to empty and clean it everyday. The two orange floats in the drip tray tell you when it is time to empty the water out of the container.
HOW TO EMPTY AND CLEAN THE DRIP TRAY
See Chapter 9.B "EMPTYING THE DRIP TRAY" of the quick start guide.
For hygiene reasons, because this tray is in contact with milk and coffee, we advise that you dismantle and clean each element with a sponge, under hot water and soap everyday. We also recommend you to air dry each element before you put it back in place.
Do not put in a dishwasher.
HOW TO EMPTY AND CLEAN THE COFFEE GROUNDS CONTAINER
See chapters 8.A "EMPTY THE COFFEE GROUND COLLECTOR" and 8.B "CLEAN THE COFFEE GROUND COLLECTOR REGULARLY" of the Quick Start Guide.

in the "warning" LED ▲ on the machine's interface lights up.
You can empty it more regularly and before the machine requests it, but when the machine is lit up this is so that it can record that the container has indeed been emptied. For hygienic reasons, we recommend you to clean the ground container with a sponge under hot water and soap everyday. We also recommend you to air dry each element before putting it back in place.
Do not put in a dishwasher.

Important: Failure to regularly empty your coffee grounds container and drip tray as indicated above may damage your appliance.
MAINTENANCE OF THE WATER TANK AND BEAN CONTAINER
WHEN AND HOW TO CLEAN THE WATER TANK
For the preservation of best coffee flavor impacted by the quality of the water and hygienic reasons, we advise you to daily clean the water tank with hot water and a bottle brush. It is also recommended that you let it air dry this element before you put it back in the appliance.
WHEN AND HOW TO CLEAN THE BEAN CONTAINER
Coffee beans can leave greasy residue on the tank that can affect the quality of the coffee. To preserve the coffee flavors and for hygienic reasons we recommend you to wipe it with a dry, soft cloth each time it needs to be refilled.

Caution: Do not clean using water as water in the bean container damages the machine.
MAINTAINING THE MILK SYSTEM
HOW AND WHY TO MAINTAIN THE MILK SYSTEM AFTER MAKING MILKY DRINKS

Important: In order to obtain identical froth each time, we recommend that you carry out the milk rinsing and rinse the tube and connector after each milky drink.
1. After each milky drink
1a. Quick clean of the milk tube and connector (30 s)
For hygiene reasons, cleaning is required after each milky drink made. This involves carefully and manually cleaning the tube and its connector with hot water after each use. See chapter 5.B "QUICK RINSE AFTER A MILKY DRINK" of the Quick Start Guide.
1b. Automatic rinsing of the milk system (10s - 20 ml)
This rinsing should be done after each milky drink, when the machine notifies you and the START/STOP LED is flashing. This lets you clean the whole of your machine's milk system.

The white warning appears, press START/STOP to start the milk rinsing.

As soon as the warning appears or if the warning is red
If you do not start rinsing immediately after the end of the recipe:
- A red warning will appear on your control panel and will stay there until you begin a milk rinsing and manually clean the milk system.
- Automatic rinsing will happen when the machine is switched off.
Deep clean the milk system.

Important: For hygienic reasons, we recommend you daily manual cleaning of the entire milk system in case of regular use or when it is not used for a longer period (more than 2 days).
This involves dismantling and cleaning the removable "One Touch Cappuccino" block regularly, and also having the pipe cleaner for the milk tube. See chapter 6 "DEEP MANUAL CLEANING OF THE MILK SYSTEM - 5 MIN" of the quick start guide.

Important: For reasons of hygiene and in order to obtain identical froth each time, we recommend that you replace the milk hose and its plastic nozzle approximately every three months. These accessories are available from the KRUPS.fr website.
| Maintenance | When? | Explanation | Actions required |
| Coffee flushing 45 s - 30 ml | We recommended you to rinse the coffee system daily or when not used for a longer period (more than 2 days). | Allows you to rinse the machine's coffee circuit. | Descaling 20 min - 600 ml | The appliance notifies you when a descaling program is necessary. | Descaling your machine ensures its proper functioning and eliminates any deposit of limescale or tartar. This step is ery important to ensure the proper functioning and longevity of your appliance. | Accessory required: 1 KRUPS descaling sachet (n°3) and a container with at least 600 ml capacity. When it is necessary to run a descaling programme, the appliance notifies you. When the machine starts up, the white or red white warning LED and the LED on the interface will light up. Next, see chapter 11"DESCALING PROGRAM - 20 MIN" of the Quick Start guide.Once the function is active, you can also begin descaling the machine on demand by pressing and selecting LED. |

Important: You do not have to run the maintenance programme as soon as the appliance requests it, but you must do it reasonably soon after. If the cleaning is postponed the alert will remain displayed as long as the operation has not been performed.

Important: If you unplug your machine during maintenance or in the event of electrical failure, the cleaning programme will resume from the start. It will not be possible to postpone this operation: it is mandatory to rinse the water circuit. In this case a new cleaning tablet may be necessary.

ANSWERS TO YOUR QUESTIONS
OPERATION
1) The machine displays a fault, the software is frozen OR the machine is malfunctioning. Turn off and unplug the machine, remove the filter cartridge, wait 1 minute and restart the machine. Press and hold the ON/OFF button for at least 3 seconds for starting.
2) The appliance does not turn on after pressing the ON/OFF button (for at least 3 seconds). ☑ Check the fuses and the power socket of your electrical installation. Check that the two power plugs are correctly inserted into the socket.
3) A power failure has occurred during a cycle.
√ The appliance resets automatically when it turns back on.
4) The grinder is running empty.
This is normal if it happens occasionally and if there are no coffee beans or only a small amount. √There are still some coffee beans in the container: o The coffee may be too oily and is therefore not being correctly captured by the appliance. You could try helping the beans to go down and see if that gets it working again. However, it is advisable to change coffee (cf. type of beans function). o This is my usual coffee that has worked well until now: contact your after-sales service.
USE
1) The grinder makes an unusual noise. Foreign bodies are surely present in the grinder. √ Try to vacuum with a vacuum cleaner, otherwise contact your after-sales hotline.
2) There is water under the appliance.
☑ Before removing the drip tray, wait 15 seconds after the flow of coffee so that the machine finishes its cycle correctly.
√ Verify that the drip tray is well positioned on the machine. It must always be in place even when the machine is not in use.
√ Check that the drip tray is not full.
3) The adjustment button for the grinding fineness is difficult to turn.
Turn the adjustment button of the grinding fineness only when the grinder is operating.
4) The appliance has not issued any coffee. An incident has been detected during its making.
√ The device is reset automatically and is ready for a new cycle.
5) You have used ground coffee instead of coffee beans.
Use your vacuum cleaner to collect the ground coffee from the bean container.
6) Water runs from the coffee nozzles when the machine stops.
This is normal. It is an automatic rinsing process to clean the coffee nozzles and ensure that they do not become blocked.
STEAM AND MILK
1) The milk flow of your machine appears to be partially or completely blocked.
2) Clean the "One Touch Cappuccino" block. See chapter 6 "DEEP CLEANING OF MILK SYSTEM MANUALLY - 5 MINS" of the Quick Start Guide.
3) Steam escapes from the grid of the drip tray.
Depending on the type of preparation, steam may escape from the grid of the drip tray.
4) Steam appears under the bean tray lid.
√ Check that the cleaning tablet hatch located under the lid (K) is properly closed.
MAINTENANCE
1) The machine does not request descaling. √ The descaling cycle is requested from a large number of milky drink preparations or hot water. If you only consume coffee, descaling will not be required often.
2) Some grounds are in the drip tray.
A small amount of ground coffee can get into the drip tray. The machine is designed to evacuate any excess ground coffee so that the percolation zone remains clean.
3) The warning light is still on after you have emptied the coffee and hands tray.
√ Reinstall the coffee grounds tray.

water tank
The warning light is still on after you have filled the water tank. √ Ensure that the water tank is properly positioned in the appliance. The floats at the bottom of the tank must move freely. Check and release the floats if necessary.
DRINKS
1) The coffee is flowing too slowly.
Turn the "fineness of grinding" button to the right to obtain a coarser ground coffee (this may depend on the type of coffee used). √ Perform one or several rinsing cycles. √ Change the Claris Aqua Filter System cartridge.
2) The coffee is too light or not full-bodied enough.
√ Check that the bean container contains coffee and that it is moving down correctly. √ Avoid the use of oily, caramelised or flavoured coffees which may not be captured properly. Decrease the volume of the preparation and increase the strength of the preparation using the coffee strength function. Turn the "fineness of grinding" button to obtain a finer ground coffee. Make your drink in two cycles using the 2-cup function.
3) The espresso or the coffee is not hot enough.
√ Increase the temperature of the coffee in the machine's settings. Heat the cup by rinsing with hot water before starting to prepare the drink. Before making your coffee, carry out a rinsing of the coffee circuit. A coffee rinsing function when switching on the device can be activated in settings / auto rinsing
4) Clear water is running from the coffee nozzles before each coffee.
√ A pre-infusion takes place when you start a recipe, and this can lead to a small amount of water coming out of the coffee nozzles.
If one of the problems outlined above persists, contact KRUPS Consumer Service.
