Frequently Asked Questions - DMX-RT4 Chauvet

How to record a DMX show on the DMX-RT4?
Go to the Record Show menu, name the file (11 characters max), choose the recording mode (Manual, Auto, or Semi-Auto), then press Start Record. Once finished, press Stop Record. The show is saved on the micro SD card.
How to play a recorded show?
In the Play Show menu, select the desired show file, choose One Play (single play) or Loop Play (loop), then press Start Play. To stop, press Stop Play.
How to connect external triggers?
Use the 3-pin Phoenix connectors (12 V DC, 100 mA output). Configure each trigger in the Trigger Event menu: enable it, rename it, associate one or more show/audio files, choose the mode (NO_TR, AUTO_TR, etc.), and set the delay and priorities.
What do the status indicators mean?
- Solid green: playback in progress. Flashing green: recording in progress. - Solid blue: trigger activated. Flashing blue: DMX input detected. - Solid red: device powered on. - Solid or flashing yellow: SD card activity.
How to format the SD card?
Go to Enter MassStorage then Format SD Card. Confirm with Continue. Warning: all data will be erased. To exit without formatting, choose Return.
How to lock the device with a PIN code?
In Lock Device, go to PIN to set a code (000-999). Then in Lock, choose Timeout (lock after 30s) or Manual lock. To unlock, enter the PIN code in Unlock.
How to update the firmware of the DMX-RT4?
Make sure you have the latest firmware file on your computer. In Enter MassStorage -> Connect to PC, connect the device via USB, copy the file to the SD card, then restart. Follow the instructions on the Chauvet website.
How to delete a show file?
Go to Delete Show -> Show, select the file to delete, then confirm with Continue. You can also use MassStorage mode to delete via a computer.
Can I use the DMX-RT4 outdoors?
No, the device is designed for indoor use only (IP20 rating). Avoid exposure to rain, humidity, and extreme temperatures.
What to do if the device does not power on?
Check that the power adapter is properly connected and that the input voltage matches (100-240 VAC). Also check the power cable. If the problem persists, contact Chauvet support.

  • Never disconnect this product from power by pulling on the cord.
  • When mounting this product overhead, ALWAYS use a safety cable.
  • DO NOT allow flammable materials close to the product when it is operating.
  • The voltage of the outlet to which you are connecting this product must be within the range stated on the decal or rear panel of the product.
  • This product is for indoor use only! (IP20) To prevent risk of fire or shock, do not expose this product to rain or moisture.
  • Always mount this product in a location with adequate ventilation, at least 20 in (50 cm) from adjacent surfaces.

Product Description

The DMX-RT4 is a rugged and compact DMX recording device with trigger-able playback. The device connects to external audio systems and can copy, backup, and transfer show files. The DMX-RT4 also includes a DC power out for sensors that require DC power to operate.
