Defective or used battery packs must be collected through special waste channels and must not be disposed of with household waste.

8.2 Installing and removing bits and drills (Fig. C)

This drill has a keyless chuck (1) to prevent the bit or drill from loosening.

  • Hold the soft grip of the cordless drill firmly with one hand.
  • Turn ring A clockwise with the other hand until the drill chuck opening is large enough to accept the tool.
  • Insert the drill or the screwdriver bit into the drill chuck.
  • Turn ring A anticlockwise until the tool is clamped tightly.
  • Remove the tool in the opposite way.

8.3 Starting and stopping (Fig. A)

  • The drill is started and stopped by depressing and releasing the trigger switch (4) .

8.4 Variable speed (Fig. A)

  • This tool has a variable speed trigger switch (4) that delivers higher speed and torque with increased trigger pressure. Speed is controlled by the amount of trigger switch depression.

8.5 Trigger switch lock (Fig. A)

  • The trigger switch (4) can be locked in the centre position.
  • This helps to reduce the possibility of accidental starting when not in use. To lock the trigger switch (4), place the direction of rotation selector (5) in the centre position.

8.6 Direction of rotation (Fig. A)

  • Direction of rotation is controlled by the direction of rotation selector (5) located above the trigger switch.

8.6.1 Clockwise rotation:

  • To select clockwise rotation, release the trigger switch and push the direction of rotation selector (6) to the left side of the tool.

8.6.2 Anticlockwise rotation:

  • To select anticlockwise rotation, release the trigger switch and push the selector (5) to the right side of the tool.

8.7 Adjusting the torque (Fig. A)

  • The torque is adjusted by rotating the torque setting ring (2); the torque is greater when the torque setting is set on a higher position. The torque is less when the torque setting ring is set on a low position “1” denotes lowest and “18” denotes highest.
  • Torque is set by means of a torque setting according to different screws and different materials, you can adjust the torque, if the screw is long and the material is hard, you can choose a higher setting.

8.8 Speed selector (Fig. A & D)

  • The drill has a two-speed gear train designed for drilling at 1 (LOW) or 2 (HIGH) speed. A speed selector (3) is located on top of the drill to select either low or high speed. When you push the button backward and select low speed range, the speed will decrease but will provide more power and torque. When using drill in the high speed range. Speed will increase but will provide less power and torque. Use low speed for high power and torque application and high speed for fast drilling applications.POWX00840 EN Copyright © 2022 VARO P a g e | 9 www.varo.com Important: NEVER adjust this two speed selector whilst the drill is running. Always let it come to a complete stop first.

8.9 LED light (Fig A)

  • The LED work-light (6) will only light up when motor is turning , it doesn’t work prior to motor running.

WARNING: Do not stare directly at the light beam. Never aim the beam at

any person or an object other than the work piece. Do not deliberately aim the beam at personnel and ensure that it is not directed towards the eye of a person for longer than 0.25 s.

Before drilling, the function ring should be set on drill mode “ ”. When drilling a hard smooth surface, use a centre punch to mark the desired hole location. This will prevent the drill bit from slipping off centre as the hole is started. Hold the tool firmly and place the tip of the drill or bit into the work piece, applying only enough pressure to keep the bit cutting. Do not force or apply side pressure to elongate a hole.

Before drilling, the function ring should be set on drill mode “ ”. For maximum performance, use high speed steel bits for wood drilling. Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from slipping off the starting point. Increase the speed as the drill bit bites into the material. When drilling through holes, place a block of wood behind the workpiece to prevent ragged or shintered edges on the back side of the hole.

For maximum performance, use high speed steel bits for metal or steel drilling. Begin drilling at a very low speed to prevent the bit from slipping off the starting point. Maintain a speed and pressure which allows cutting without overheating the bit.

  • Applying too much pressure will:
  • Produce off-centre or irregular shaped holes.
  • When drilling large holes in metal, it is recommended that you drill with a small bit at first, then finish with a large bit. Also, lubricate the bit with oil to improve drilling action and increase bit life.

For screw driving turn the function ring (12) to the screw driving mode “ ”.

Set the torque setting low enough to allow a safety margin. Start with a low torque setting when first driving screws into a material. Then adjust the setting as the proper force required is determined.

The size of the screw in combination with the hardness of the material will determine the torque setting.

The torque starts at setting “1” (lowest torque) to setting “18” (highest torque).POWX00840 EN Copyright © 2022 VARO P a g e | 10 www.varo.com This flexible bit holder is only applicable in combination with the screw function on this machine (screwing till max. 10 Nm).

8.14 Impact drilling (Fig. A)

Always use a drill bit specifically suited for the type of stony material that will be drilled in to. This means a specific drill bit for concrete, masonry, natural stone, tiles etc. Using the wrong type drill bit can result in damage to the drill bit, the drill or personal injury! Turn the function ring (12) to the impact mode “ ”.

Only use this setting to bore or drill into stone/concrete. The Hammer setting works well when drilling/chipping into materials.

The tip of the tool MUST be firmly depressed for the hammer action to engage.

When the drill bit doesn’t advance in to the material, check the condition and the type of the drill bit and replace if necessary.

Keep the ventilation slots of the machine clean to prevent overheating of the engine.

Regularly clean the machine housing with a soft cloth, preferably after each use.

Keep the ventilation slots free from dust and dirt.

If the dirt does not come off use a soft cloth moistened with soapy water. Never use solvents such as petrol, alcohol, ammonia water, etc. These solvents may damage the plastic parts.

Our machines have been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper machine care and regular cleaning. 10 TECHNICAL DETAILS Model POWX00840 Rated voltage 20 V Rotation speed 0-400/0-1400 min
