Frequently Asked Questions - VTLAN6 VELLEMAN

How to use the VTLAN6 tester?
Set the switch to ON for fast test or S for slow. Plug one end of the cable into the master and the other into the remote. The LEDs light up in sequence. After the test, turn off the device.
What types of cables can the VTLAN6 test?
It tests RJ45 (8P8C), RJ12 (6P6C), RJ11 (6P2C), RJ10 (4P4C) cables as well as most telephone and data cables.
What does the LED display mean during a test?
LEDs lighting in sequence indicate a good connection. If an LED does not light, the corresponding wire is open. If two LEDs on the remote do not light, there is a short circuit between those wires. A different order indicates crossover wires.
How to interpret an open circuit?
If an LED (e.g., 2) does not light on either the master or remote, wire 2 is broken. If fewer than 2 wires are connected, no LED lights.
What to do in case of short circuit detection?
During a short circuit between two wires (e.g., 2 and 4), all master LEDs light up but LEDs 2 and 4 on the remote remain off. Check the wiring and repair or replace the cable.
How to replace the battery of the VTLAN6?
Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the device. Replace the used battery with a 9 V (6LR61C) battery respecting polarity. Close the compartment.
Why are the LEDs dim?
Dim LEDs indicate the battery is low. Replace it immediately to avoid incorrect test results.
Can I test live cables?
No, never use the tester on live wires. This could damage the device and pose a safety risk.
What is the maximum cable length that can be tested?
The VTLAN6 can test cables up to 100 meters in length.
What if the device does not turn on?
First check the battery: insert a new 9 V battery. Make sure the switch is set to ON or S. If the problem persists, contact your dealer.
