USER MANUAL TB 74 Testboy

WARNING Never point the laser beam directly or indirectly (on re- flective surfaces) towards the eyes. Laser radiation can cause irreparable damage to the eyes. You must first deactivate the laser beam when measuring close to people.

General safety notes

WARNING Unauthorized changes or modifications of the instru- ment are forbidden – such changes put the approval (CE) and safety of the instrument at risk. In order to operate the instrument safely, you must always ob- serve the safety instructions, warnings and the infor- mation in the "Proper and Intended Use" Chapter.Notes

TB 74 WARNING Please observe the following information before using the instrument: | Do not operate the instrument in the proximity of electrical welders, induction heaters and other elec- tromagnetic fields. | Do not expose the instrument to high temperatures for a long period of time. | Avoid dusty and humid surroundings. | Measurement instruments and their accessories are not toys. Children should never be allowed access to them! | In industrial institutions, you must follow the acci- dent prevention regulations for electrical facilities and equipment, as established by your employer's liability insurance organization.

Proper and intended use This instrument is intended for use in applications described in the operation manual only. Any other usage is considered im- proper and non-approved us-age and can result in accidents or the destruction of the instrument. Any misuse will result in the expiry of all guarantee and warranty claims on the part of the operator against the manufacturer.

Disposal For Testboy customers: Purchasing our product gives you the opportunity to return the instrument to collection points for waste electrical equipment at the end of its lifespan.

The EU Directive 2002/96/EC (WEEE) regulates the return and recycling of waste electrical and electron- ics equipment. As of 13/08/2005, manufacturers of electrical and electronics equipment are obliged to take back and recycle any electrical devices sold af- ter this date for no charge. After that date, electrical de-vices must not be disposed of through the "nor- mal" waste disposal channels. Electrical devices must be disposed of and recycled separately. As an end user, you are legally obliged (by the rele- vant laws concerning battery disposal) to return all used batteries. Disposal with normal house- hold waste is prohibited! Contaminant-laden batteries are labelled with the adjacent symbol which indicates the prohibition of disposal with normal household waste. The abbreviations used for heavy metals are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = mercury, Pb = lead. You can return your used batteries for no charge to collection points in your community or everywhere where batteries are sold! Five year warranty Testboy instruments are subject to strict quality control stan- dards. The instrument is covered by a warranty for a period of five years against malfunctions during the course of your daily work (valid only with invoice). We will repair production or mate- rial defects free of charge upon return if these have not been caused by misuse or abuse and if the instrument has not been opened. Damage resulting from a fall or improper handling is excluded from the warranty. TB 74. The test probe can be used for making digital measurements to determine the thickness of layers on magnetic metals. It is de- signed for use in professional workshops and service depart- ments. Three LEDs are used to indicate the thickness of the layers within different ranges. Automatic power-off The Testboy TB 74 features an automatic shut-off feature.Operations

TB 74 Determining the layer thickness Remove the tester's lid and press the button to turn it on. Hold the test probe on the sur- face to be measured while si- multaneously reading the re- sult on the LEDs.

Slide off coverOperations TB 74 21 ENGLISH Display The display consists of three LEDs that indicate the layer thickness range. Red >400 µm Yellow / red 350 - 400 µm Yellow 250 - 350 µm Green / yellow 150 - 250 µm Green 0 - 150 µm The device is pre-set to these ranges and does not need to be calibrated.

WARNING Always replace the cap. The sensor tip is sensitive!Operations

TB 74 Changing the battery Press up on the clip and remove the battery cover. Make sure you insert the battery so that the polarity is cor- rect! Insert the new battery and re- place the battery cover.

Do not dispose of batteries in normal household rubbish! Use an authorised local col- lection point!
