• If any of the following abnormalities occur, immediately turn off any amplifiers and receivers. – An unusual smell, unusual sound or smoke is emitted from the unit. – Foreign material or water gets into the interior of the unit. – There is a loss of sound during use. – There is a crack or damage in the unit. Continued use could cause electric shocks, a fire, or malfunctions. Immediately request an inspection or repair from the dealer where you purchased the unit or from qualified Yamaha service personnel. Installation

• Assemble and install in the manner instructed in the manual. Falling or toppling may result in injury or damage.

• Confirm that the finished installation is safe and secure. Also, carry out safety inspections periodically. Failure to observe this may cause devices to fall and result in injury.

• Always fix the speaker cable to a wall or similar. If you catch your feet or hands on the cable, the speakers may fall or overturn, causing malfunctions or injuries. Do not disassemble

• Do not disassemble or modify this unit. Failure to observe this may cause a fire, electric shocks, injury, or malfunctions. Water warning

• Do not expose the unit to rain, use it near water or in damp or wet conditions, or place on it any containers (such as vases, bottles or glasses) containing liquids which might spill into any openings or places where water may drop. A liquid such as water getting into the unit may cause a fire, electric shocks, or malfunctions. Fire warning

• Do not place any burning items or open flames near the unit, since they may cause a fire. Handling

• Be careful not to drop or apply strong impact to this unit. Failure to observe this may cause electric shocks, a fire, or malfunctions. CAUTION This content indicates “risk of injury.” Installation

• Do not install the unit in places where it may come into contact with corrosive gases or salt air or places that have excessive smoke or steam. Doing so may result in malfunction.

• Avoid being near the unit during a disaster, such as an earthquake. Since the unit may turn over or fall and cause injury, quickly move away from the unit and go to a safe place.

• When transporting or moving the unit always use two or more people. Attempting to lift the unit by yourself may damage your back, result in other injury, or cause damage to the unit itself.

• Before moving this unit, be sure to disconnect all connection cables. Failure to observe this may damage the cables or cause you or someone else to trip and fall. Hearing loss

• Do not use the unit for a long period of time at a high or uncomfortable volume level, since this can cause permanent hearing loss. If you experience any hearing loss or ringing in the ears, consult a physician.

• Before connecting the unit to other devices, turn off the power for all devices. Failing to do so may result in hearing loss, electric shock, or device damage. Handling

• Do not insert your hand or fingers into bass reflex port (hole on the rear) of this unit. Failure to observe this may cause injury.

• Do not insert foreign materials such as metal or paper into bass reflex port (hole on the rear) of this unit. Failure to observe this may cause a fire, electric shocks, or malfunctions.

• Keep small parts out of the reach of infants. Your children may accidentally swallow them.

• Do not do the following: – Stand on or sit on the equipment. – Put heavy items on top of the equipment. – Apply unreasonable force input terminals, etc. – Lean against the equipment. Failure to observe this may cause injuries or damage to the equipment.

• Avoid pulling the connected cables to prevent injuries or damage to the unit by causing it to fall.

• Do not operate the unit if the sound is distorting. Prolonged use in this condition could cause overheating and result in fire.

• When selecting an amplifier or a receiver to use with this unit, check that the output level on the amplifier or receiver is within this unit’s permitted input level ( see page 10 ). If the output power is higher than the power capacity, malfunction or fire may occur.

• Be sure to request inspections or repairs from the dealer where you purchased the unit or from qualified Yamaha service personnel.

• Yamaha cannot be held responsible for injury to you or damage of the products caused by improper use or modifications to the unit.

• This product is for ordinary homes. Do not use for applications requiring high reliability, such as managing lives, health care or high-value assets.4 NOTICE Indicates points that you must observe in order to prevent product failure, damage or malfunction and data loss. Installation

• Do not use this unit in a location that is exposed to direct sunlight that becomes extremely hot, such as near a heater, or extremely cold, or that is subject to excessive dust or vibration. Failure to observe this may cause the unit’s panel to become deformed, the internal components to malfunction, or for operation to become unstable. Connections

• If connecting external units, be sure to thoroughly read the manual for each unit and connect them in accordance with the instructions. Failure to properly handle a unit in accordance with the instructions could cause malfunctions. Handling

• Do not place vinyl, plastic, or rubber products on this unit. Failure to observe this may cause discoloration or deformation in the panel of this unit. Maintenance

• If the temperature or humidity changes drastically, water droplets (condensation) may form on the unit surface. If water droplets form, immediately wipe them off with a soft cloth. If water droplets are left on the unit, they may be absorbed into the wooden parts, causing deformation.

• When cleaning the unit, use a dry, soft cloth. Using chemicals such as benzine or thinner, cleaning agents, or chemical scrubbing cloths can cause discoloration or deformation. Speakers

• The speakers do not have a distinction between left and right.

The feet can be adjusted. By finely adjusting the height of the unit, wobbling can be prevented at the setup location. Be careful since loosening a foot too much may cause it to fall off, resulting in the unit tipping over. Placing this unit too close to a CRT TV may cause color distortions or other interference. In that case, move the speakers away from the TV. CAUTION Foot Loosen(To raise)Tighten(To lower)7 Setting up the speakers English ° Using this unit with the included spikes When setting up this unit on a thick carpet, etc., installing the included spikes can improve stability and sound quality. In that case, install the spikes as follows.
• Setting up and moving the unit require two or more people. Otherwise, the unit may fall or tip over, causing injuries. 1 Place the speaker on the floor with its rear side down. Spread out blankets or cushions to prevent scratches. 2 Loosen the foot to remove it, and then screw the spike into the screw hole for the foot. 3 After installing the four spikes, place the speaker at the setup location. If the unit is wobbling, turn the spikes and adjust them so the unit does not wobble.• Be careful since loosening a spike too much may cause it to fall off.• Tilting the unit to set it up requires two or more people so that it does not tip over. Otherwise, the unit may tip over, causing injuries or damage. NOTICE
• Allowing the tips of the spikes to drag may scratch the floor. Be careful when installing or moving the speaker.• When the spikes are installed, be careful not to scratch the floor.• Due to the weight of the unit, marks may be left on the floor or carpet.

Foot Spike8 Attaching the grille This unit and the grille are packed separately. The back of the grille is fitted with a magnet. The grille can be attached by aligning its curved section with the curved surface at the top on the front of this unit. NOTE

• The diaphragms of all tweeter, midrange and woofers of this unit include a natural material called spruce. Therefore, fibers and chips in the material may be visible on the surface of the diaphragm. Since these are not defects but common for this natural material, they do not affect the quality.

• The specific type of rubber used for the surround supporting the woofer diaphragm was carefully chosen to optimize the sound quality. In rare cases, this rubber may turn an off- white color. Such rubber bloom is not cause for concern but merely the result of a rubber component surfacing, which does not adversely affect performance. Attaching the grille Surround Diaphragm NOTICE

• Make sure that the grille is securely attached to this unit. If it comes off the unit due to vibrations, etc., it may cause damage or malfunctions.

• Do not touch or apply excessive force to any diaphragms on the front. Otherwise, the sound may be distorted, or malfunctions may result.

• Do not press or apply excessive force to the speaker grill cloth. Otherwise, it may be damaged.

• There are magnets on the back of the grille for this unit. Keep the removed grille away from objects (CRT TVs, watches, magnetic cards, etc.) that may be affected by magnets.9 English Before making connections, make sure that the amplifier is turned off. ° Connections Provide commercially available speaker cable. The thickness and/or material of the speaker cable affects the sound quality. We recommend purchasing high-quality speaker cable to maximize this unit’s performance. ° Connecting the speaker cables Connecting to your amplifier 15 mm(5/8") Twist off a section of insulation from each end of the cables. SPEAKERS

Turn the input terminal knobs on the rear of this unit counterclockwise to loosen them. 2 Insert the bare wire section into the hole in the input terminal. NOTE

• Diameter of hole in terminal for inserting speaker cable:

• Do not insert the cable insulation into the hole. Otherwise, sound may not be produced. 3 Turn the input terminal knobs clockwise to tighten them and secure the cables. Make sure that the wire core does not protrude from the hole. 4 Connect the speaker cables to the L (left) and R (right) speaker terminals on the amplifier. NOTE

• The red terminal of this unit is positive (+), and the black terminal is negative (–).

• If a speaker is connected with reversed polarity, the sound will be unnatural. NOTICE

• Be careful not to allow the bare wires of the positive (+) and negative (–) speaker cables to come into contact with each other or other metal parts. Otherwise, the speakers may be damaged.

• Affix the speaker cables to a wall, etc. Otherwise, hands or feet may be caught on the cables, causing the unit to tip over.

• Since the speakers may be damaged if an equalizer or tone controls of an amplifier (BASS, TREBLE, etc.) are set to maximum and output at a high volume level, or if certain signals (sounds from a tape fast-forwarding or a turntable stylus touching the surface of a disc, specific frequencies from a signal generator and sine waves or similar signals) are continuously input, avoid such conditions. NOTE

• When using an amplifier with a rated output power higher than the nominal input power of the speaker, take care never to surpass the speaker’s maximum input.

• Refer to the owner’s manual that came with your amplifier or receiver.
