How to use the automatic method to program the THOMSON ROC 240 remote control?
Frequently Asked Questions - 20/12/2025
Response Notice-Facile

The code search programming (also called automatic method) of your THOMSON ROC 240 universal remote allows you to find the compatible code without having to enter it manually. This method automatically scans all pre-programmed codes until it finds the one that corresponds to your device.

Steps to follow:

  • Turn on the device you want to control (TV or VCR).
  • Set the selector to the type of device:
    • TV: for a television or satellite receiver
    • VCR: for a VCR or video recorder
  • Press and hold the SHIFT key (4) until the red indicator (11) stays on continuously. The indicator will blink to warn you that the activation time is about to expire, then it will turn off.
  • Point the remote control at your device and press the B key (1) - the POWER key - once to try to turn it off.
  • If your device turns off immediately, press OK (7) to store the code. Programming is complete.
  • If your device does not turn off, press the B key (1) again as many times as necessary, up to 200 attempts. Between each press, wait about 1 second to allow the red indicator to turn off and back on - this lets you see your device's response.
  • As soon as the device turns off after one of your presses, immediately press OK (7) to store the found code.

Verification: Once programming is complete, test the main functions of your remote control. For a television, press the numbers to change the channel or press B to turn it back on. For a VCR, insert a tape and test the B button. Try other buttons to check the range of available functions. If you think not all buttons are active, you can restart this programming procedure to find a code that covers more functions.

USER MANUAL ROC 240 THOMSON

This Universal Remote Control is compatible with most models of infrared-controlled TV sets and video recorders.

This remote control was programmed in the factory, so that you can use it to control most of the sets of the THOMSON group's make. For this reason, we recommend that prior to attempting to programme the remote control, you try it out by means of one of the methods described in this user manual. But first of all, you'll have to load the supplied batteries into the remote control.

Please keep this guide along with the code list (provided separately), so that you can subsequently programme your remote control for use with other sets.

3 - Programming the remote control

Method A - Fast programming with 1-digit subcode

Before you start programming, you must find the subcode of the set to be controlled (TV set or video recorder).

Refer to the list provided with these instructions, page 1 of the subcodes.

  1. Switch on the set you want to control.
  2. Position the selector (13) on the type of set to be controlled: TV: television set, VCR: video recorder
  3. Hold down the key SHIFT (4) until the red indicator lamp (11) remains lit (the indicator lamp remains on for a couple of seconds, so that you have time enough to proceed with steps 4 to 6. The indicator lamp flashes to signal that this time is almost up, and then goes off).
  4. While the indicator is lit, type in the subcode (example: 1 for THOMSON).
  5. Direct the remote control towards the set and try to switch it off by pressing the key (1).
  6. Immediately upon the switching-off of the set to be controlled, press OK (7) to store the subcode.
  7. Should the set not switch off, press key (1) repeatedly, until the set switches off. Between two subsequent key depressions, give the red indicator lamp (11) enough time to extinguish and light up again (about 1 second). Proceeding this way will enable you to see whether the set responds or not.
  8. Immediately upon the switching-off of the set to be controlled, press OK (7) to store the subcode.

Check of the programming

In principle, your set is ready for receiving the remote control commands.

Check your remote control for proper functioning by performing the test described on page 4.
