3. Scope of delivery

• Cordless reciprocating saw

The product described is a cordless reciprocating saw. It is designed for cutting wood, wood-like ma- terials, metals and plastics. The equipment is to be used only for its prescribed purpose. Any other use is deemed to be a case of misuse. The user / operator and not the manufactur- er will be liable for any damage or injuries of any kind caused as a result of this. To use the equipment properly you must also observe the safety information, the assembly instructions and the operating instructions to be found in this manual. All persons who use and service the equipment have to be acquainted with this manual and must be in- formed about the equipment’s potential hazards. It is also imperative to observe the accident preven- tion regulations in force in your area. The same applies for the general rules of health and safety at work. The manufacturer will not be liable for any changes made to the equipment nor for any damage resulting from such changes. The machine may be used only with original acces- sories and original tools of the manufacturer. The safety, workplace and maintenance instructions of the manufacturer as well as the dimensions speci- ed in the technical data must be observed.

These operating instructions are intended to make it easier for you to get familiar with your device and uti- lize its intended possibilities of use. The operating instructions contain important notes on how to work safely, properly and economically with your machine and how to avoid dangers, save repair costs, reduce downtime, and increase the reli- ability and working life of the machine. In addition to the safety regulations contained herein, you must in any case comply with the applicable reg- ulations of your country with respect to the operation of the machine. Put the operating instructions in a clear plastic fold- er to protect them from dirt and humidity, and store them near the machine. The instructions must be read and carefully observed by each operator prior to starting the work. Only persons who have been trained in the use of the machine and have been in- formed on the related dangers and risks are allowed to use the machine. The required minimum age must be met. Use of an RCD reduc- es the risk of electric shock.

a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the inuence of drugs, alcohol or med- ication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b) Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate condi- tions will reduce personal injuries. c) Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your nger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e) Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations. f) Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g) If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, en- sure these are connected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards. h) Do not let familiarity gained from frequent use of the tool allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

4) Power tool use and care

a) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that can- not be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. Please note that our equipment has not been de- signed for use in commercial, trade or industri- al applications. Our warranty will be voided if the equipment is used in commercial, trade or industrial businesses or for equivalent purposes.

5. Safety information

m WARNING! Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustra- tions and technical data provided with this power tool. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury. Retain all safety directions and instructions for future use. The term „power tool“ in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-oper- ated (cordless) power tool. Be sure to read the following information before you put the cordless equipment into operation:

a) Keep your working area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. b) Do not operate power tools in explosive at- mospheres, such as in the presence of am- mable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools cre- ate sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes. c) Keep children and bystanders away while op- erating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

2) Electrical safety

a) Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b) Avoid body contact with earthed or ground- ed surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded. c) Do not expose power tools to rain or wet con- ditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d) Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the pow- er tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e) When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. ADDITIONAL SAFETY WARNINGS

Caution: Risk of injury and damage to property!

• Do not use any blunt or bent blades or blades which are damaged in any other way.

• Before sawing the work piece, check for hidden for- eign objects such as nails, screws. These must be removed.

• Always insert a suitable saw blade.

• Secure the work piece with the aid of clamping de- vices on the workbench.

• Apply only as much pressure as is required for sawing. If there is excessive pressure, the sawing blade may bend and break.

• Switch the device off immediately if the sawing blade jams. Spread the saw cut out and pull the blade out carefully.

• Always stand to the side of the saw when working.

• Always make sure that the workplace is well ven- tilated.

• Avoid over-stressing the device while working. Careful handling and use of battery devices

• Charge the batteries only in chargers that are recommended by the manufacturer. Risk of re if a charger that is suitable for a specic type of battery is used with other batteries.

• In the power tools, use only the batteries de- signed for the purpose. The use of other batter- ies may result in injuries and risk of re.

• Keep the unused battery away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws and other small metal objects, which could cause bridging of the contacts. A short circuit between the battery contacts may cause burns or re.

• If used incorrectly, liquid may leak from the battery. Avoid contact with this. In the event of accidental contact, rinse off with water. If the liquid gets into eyes, seek medical assistance. Leaking battery uid may cause skin irritations or burns.

• Ensure that the device is switched off before inserting the battery. Inserting a battery into a power tool that is switched on may result in acci- dents.

• Recharge the batteries indoors only because the battery charger is designed for indoor use only. Risk of electric shock.

• To reduce the electric shock hazard, unplug the battery charger from the mains before cleaning the charger.

• Do not subject the battery to strong sunlight over long periods and do not leave it on a heat- er. Heat damages the battery and there is a risk of explosion.

• Allow a hot battery to cool before charging. c) Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any ad- justments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool acciden- tally. d) Store idle power tools out of the reach of chil- dren and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to oper- ate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e) Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly main- tained power tools. f) Keep cutting tools clean and sharp. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g) Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. h) Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the power tool in un- expected situations.

a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualied repair person using only identical replace- ment parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained. Safety instructions for reciprocating saws

• When performing work during which the elec- trical tool can meet with concealed power lines or its own power cord, hold the electrical tool by the insulated handle surfaces. Contact with a live power line can also electrify metal device parts and lead to an electric shock.

• Do not saw any materials (e.g. lead-based paints and coatings or materials containing as- bestos) whose dust can be harmful. Information on the rechargeable battery Please observe the operating manual for the re- chargeable batteries. Information on the charging unit and charging process Please observe the operating manual for the charg- ing unit. Warning! This electric tool generates an electro- magnetic eld during operation. This eld can im- pair active or passive medical implants under certain conditions. In order to prevent the risk of serious or deadly injuries, we recommend that persons with medical implants consult with their physician and the manufacturer of the medical implant prior to operat- ing the electric tool Residual risks Even if properly operating and handling this electric tool, some residual risks will remain. Due to its con- struction and build, this electric tool may present the following hazards::

• Lung damage, if suitable respiratory protection is not worn;

• Ear damage if working without ear protection;

• Damage to your health caused by swinging your hands and arms when operating the appliance for longer periods of time or if the unit is not held or maintained properly.

• Furthermore, despite all precautions having been met, some non-obvious residual risks may still re- main.

• Residual risks can be minimised if the „safety in- structions“ and the „Proper use“ are observed along with the whole of the operating instructions.

• Avoid accidental starting of the machine.

• Use the tool that is recommended in this manual. This ensures that your machine performs optimally.

• Hands may never enter the processing zone when the machine is in operation.

• Do not open up the battery and avoid mechani- cal damage to the battery. Risk of short circuit and fumes may be emitted that irritate the res- piratory tract. Ensure fresh air and seek medical assistance in the event of discomfort.

• Do not use non-rechargeable batteries. This could damage the appliance. Special safety instructions for reciprocating saws

• Hold the electric tool by the insulated gripping surfaces when performing work in which the cutting tool may come into contact with hidden wiring. Contact with a live wire can also cause a charge in metal parts of the device and result in an electric shock.

• Keep hands away from the sawing area. Do not reach underneath the work piece. Upon contact with the blade there is a risk of injury.

• Only when the electric tool is turned on should the sawing blade be moved against the work piece. There is a risk of kickback if the tool insert jams in the work piece.

• Make sure that the base plate is securely placed against the work piece during sawing. The saw blade can tilt and lead to loss of control over the power tool.

• After you have nished work, turn the power tool off and do not pull the saw blade out of the cut until it has come to a standstill. In this way you will avoid any kickback and can safely put own the power tool.

• Use only undamaged saw blades in perfect condition. Bent or blunt blades can break, ad- versely affect the cut or cause kickback.

• Do not brake the saw blade after switching the device off by applying side pressure. The saw blade may be damaged, break or cause a kickback.

• Tighten the material rmly. Do not support the work piece by hand or foot. Do not touch any objects or the ground with the saw running. There is a risk of kickback.

• Use suitable detectors in order to nd hidden supply lines or ask the local utility company. Contact with electrical cables can lead to electric shock and re, contact with a gas pipe can result in an explosion. Damage to a water pipe can lead to property damaged and electric shock.

• Hold the power tool tightly with both hands while working and ensure a secure footing. The power tool is guided more securely with both hands.

• Secure the work piece. A work piece that is re- tained with clamping devices or a vice is held more securely than with your hand.

• If a fully recharged battery lasts for considerably shorter operating times, the battery is used up and needs to be replaced. Only use an OEM battery pack replacement available from our Customer Service. Assembly Only insert the rechargeable battery when the device is completely assembled. If the device is switched on accidentally, there is a danger of in- jury. Installing/changing the blade

• Always wear protective gloves when handling the saw blade in order to avoid cutting yourself. Caution, risk of injury!

• Do not use any blunt or bent blades or blades which are damaged in any other way..

• Always insert a suitable saw blade. Warning! Always remove the battery pack before making adjustments to the equipment. Installing the blade:

1. Turn the chuck ring (4) in the direction of the arrow

and insert the shank of the saw blade (1) all the way into the slot of the saw blade holder (3).

2. To lock, turn the chuck ring (4) back to the starting

and pull the blade out of the saw blade holder. For certain work, the saw blade can also be inserted after turning through 180°. Operation When working with the device, always wear suit- able clothing and appropriate protective equip- ment. Prior to each use it must be ensured that the device is working correctly. Personal protec- tive equipment and a fully functional device re- duce the risk of injuries and accidents. After the device has been switched off, the blade continues moving for some time. Do not touch the moving blade and do not attempt to brake it. Danger of injury! Noise and vibration m Warning: Noise at the workplace can exceed 85 dB (A). In this case, noise protection measures are necessary for the user (wear hearing protection!). Noise output in dB sound power level L

• Open the packaging and remove the device care- fully.

• Remove the packaging material as well as the packaging and transport bracing (if available).

• Check that the delivery is complete.

• Check the device and accessory parts for transport damage. Inform the transport agent immediately of any faults. Later complaints cannot be considered.

• If possible, store the packaging until the warranty period has expired.

• Familiarize yourself with the machine with the help of the operating instructions manual before using it.

• Use only original parts for accessories as well as consumables and spare parts. Spare parts can be obtained from your retailer.

• Please quote our article numbers as well as type and production year in all your orders. m ATTENTION The device and packaging materials are not toys! Children must not be allowed to play with plas- tic bags, lm and small parts! There is a risk of swallowing and suffocation!

m IMPORTANT! You must fully assemble the appliance before using it for the rst time! To ensure that the Li battery pack provides long ser- vice you should take care to recharge it promptly. You must recharge the battery pack when you notice that the power of the cordless equipment drops. Removing/inserting the battery

1. To remove the battery (11) from the appliance,

press the release button (12) on the battery and pull out the battery.

2. To insert the battery (11), place it on the guide

track and push it back into the appliance. Be- fore switching the device on, ensure it is not in con- tact with the work piece. Switching on:

1. Ensure that the battery (11) is inserted (see “Re-

moving/inserting the battery”).

2. Press the switch lock (9) and the on/off switch (8),

then release the switch lock (9).

3. By using the on/off switch (8) you can progres-

sively control the stroke rate. Gentle pressure: low stroke rate. Greater pressure: higher stroke rate. The on/off switch cannot be locked. Switching off:

4. Release the on/off switch (8).

Adjusting the base plate To adapt to the work piece, the base plate can be adjusted and swivelled to 4 positions.

1. Press the adjusting button (5).

2. The base plate (2) can now be adjusted to the de-

sired position. It can now be felt locking into place.

3. The base plate (2) can be pivoted by applying light

pressure. Switching on/off the oscillating function To improve the progress of the sawing process, an oscillating motion can be switched on. Sawing without oscillation:

• For thin, hard work pieces such as wooden boards.

• In order to achieve cleaner cut edges. Sawing with oscillation:

• For processing work pieces with medium and soft strength, such as soft and hard wood, tree wood, insulation material. Switching on the oscillating function:

1. Turn the rotary switch (6) to position “1”.

Switching off the oscillating function:

2. Turn the rotary switch (6) to position “0”.

Conventional sawing:

1. Turn the device on. Before switching the device

on, ensure it is not in contact with the work piece.

2. Place the base plate on the work piece.

3. Cut with a uniform forward motion. You can saw

horizontally (see ), diagonally or vertically (see ).

4. After completion of the work, rst remove the

blade from the saw cut and then switch the device off. Plunge sawing: Plunge cuts are technically more demanding and har- bour a greater risk. Only perform this work if you are familiar with this technique. Plunge cuts may only be carried out in soft ma- terials such as wood or plasterboard and with short blades (max. length 150 mm). There is a risk of kickback and personal injury.

1. Place the front edge of the base plate (2) on the

work piece so that the saw blade (1) does not touch the work piece.

2. Turn the device on and let the saw blade (1) slowly

plunge into the work piece.

3. When the work piece depth has been cut through,

continue sawing as usual. Flush separation: With elastic bi-metal saw blades (see spare parts/ accessories) you can separate water pipes, for ex- ample, ush to the wall. Make sure that the blade is always longer than the pipe diameter. There is a risk of kickback and personal injury.

Danger! Always pull out the battery pack before starting any cleaning work. Cleaning

• Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth or blow it with compressed air at low pressure.

• We recommend that you clean the device immedi- ately each time you have nished using it.

• Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents; these could attack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensure that no water can seep into the device. The ingress of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock.

Store the device and its accessories in a dark, dry and frost-proof place that is inaccessible to children. The optimum storage temperature is between 5 and 30˚C. Store the electrical tool in its original packag- ing. Cover the electrical tool in order to protect it from dust and moisture. Store the operating manual with the electrical tool.

The equipment is supplied in packaging to prevent it from being damaged in transit. The raw materials in this packaging can be reused or recycled. The equip- ment and its accessories are made of various types of material, such as metal and plastic. Defective components must be disposed of as special waste. Ask your dealer or your local council.
