Important safety instructions

Danger to certain categories of persons

There is an increased risk of injury for children and for people with reduced capabilities:

- This product can be used by children aged from 8 years and older and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.

• Children must not be permitted to carry out any cleaning or maintenance work on the appliance unless they are supervised and at least 8 years of age.

- The appliance and its power cord must be kept well away from children under 8 at all times.

• Children must not be permitted to play with the appliance.

- Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children –

these materials are a potential source of danger, e.g. of suffocation.

Risk of electric shock

The device is powered by electricity, and so there is always a risk of electric shock. The following precautions are therefore to be taken:

- Every time the appliance is used, the main body including the power cord as well as any attachment fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, or if excessive force has been used to pull the power cord, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance.

- The appliance should only be connected to a socket installed in accordance with the regulations. Make sure that the supply voltage corresponds with the voltage marked on the rating label.

• Always remove the plug from the wall socket

  • after use,
  • in case of any malfunction,
  • before cleaning the appliance.

- When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself.

- Do not touch the plug with wet hands.

- Warning! The electrical contact on the base must be protected from any splashing or overflowing water.

  • Do not clean the water container and the base with liquids and do not immerse them; do not clean under running water.
  • The kettle may only be operated with the base provided with the appliance.
  • Caution! Never remove the water container from the base (or replace it) while the appliance is switched on.
  • Caution! If the water container is not placed on its base, it can slip on smooth surfaces.

Danger of burns and scalding

  • The exterior surfaces become hot during use and will remain so for some time afterwards.
  • Only operate the kettle under supervision and with pure water. It is essential to observe the minimum (0.5 l) and maximum (1.7 l) markings for the filling quantity. Overfilling may cause boiling water to splash out.

- Warning! Never open the lid while the water is boiling! After boiling, be very careful if you need to open the lid, to avoid scalding.

- Also pay attention to steam escaping by the lid, and do not touch the kettle in the handle area during the boiling process.

- During the boiling process and when pouring out hot water, the lid must be kept closed at all times.

- Caution! Hot steam can rise upwards during pouring!

- Caution! Position the lid so that steam is directed away from the handle area.

- Descale the appliance regularly. With heavily calcified appliances, there is a risk of water splashing out of the spout.

Lack of hygiene

Lack of hygiene may result in germs forming inside the appliance:

  • Clean the appliance thoroughly before using it for the first time.
  • Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.
  • The appliance must be descaled at regular intervals. Clean the water container as necessary with a damp cloth.
    • Detailed information on cleaning the appliance can be found in the section Cleaning and care.

Danger of damage to the unit

Incorrect handling of the appliance can cause damage:

• Always let the appliance cool down first before re-filling with fresh water.
• Always place the unit on a dry, level, non-slip and heat-resistant surface, which is impervious to contact with the rubber feet.
- Do not operate the appliance below a hanging cupboard or similar object; there is a risk that escaping steam may be trapped underneath.
- Do not let the power cord hang free.
- Do not kink or pinch the power cord.

- Keep both the cord and the appliance itself well away from heat sources (eg hot-plates, gas flames).

Intended use

  • The appliance must only be used for heating clean, fresh water and for making hot beverages.
  • Warning! Any other use not stated in the instructions (misuse) is considered as not intended and can cause severe personal injury or damage to the appliance.

- Do not leave the appliance unattended while connected.

In case of a defective appliance

A defective appliance can cause material damage and injury:

  • Check the appliance for damage before every use. Do not operate if the appliance shows any sign of damage.
  • In the event that you detect damage, please contact our customer service department by phone or email (see appendix).

- Repairs to this appliance or its power cord must only be carried out by our customer service.

- Before cleaning the appliance, ensure it is disconnected from the power supply and has cooled down completely.

- To avoid the risk of electric shock, do not clean the water container and the base with liquids and do not immerse them. Do not clean under running water.

- For cleaning, a slightly damp, lint-free cloth may be used.

- Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions, and do not use hard brushes for cleaning.

Lime filter
