Frequently Asked Questions - SLG 380 D3 SILVERCREST

How to use the hot laminator?
Plug in the device, press the ON/OFF switch. Select the film thickness (80 MIC or 125 MIC) using the switch. Wait until the green ready light turns on. Place the document in a suitable pouch, insert it closed side first into the entry slot. The device automatically pulls in the pouch. Let the pouch cool down after exit.
How to use cold lamination?
First let the device cool down completely (the rollers must be cold). Plug in, turn on, set the switch to COLD. The green light turns on. Insert the pouch as for hot lamination. Note: pouches for cold lamination are specific.
What to do if the pouch jams?
Use the anti-jam switch ABS located on top. Hold it down, gently remove the pouch, then release the switch. Reinsert the pouch, centering it properly.
What types of pouches can I use?
For hot lamination, use special hot lamination pouches (up to 125 microns). For cold lamination, cold lamination pouches (up to 200 microns). The maximum size is 230 mm wide (A4, A5, business cards). The supplied pouches are for hot lamination.
How to cut a laminated document?
Use the integrated trimmer. Slide the cutting head to the stop. Place the document under the cutting rail, align it using the cutting guide, then push the cutting head firmly and in one stroke along the rail. Do not cut while the device is hot.
How to use the corner rounder?
Remove the corner rounder from its holder. Place it on a table, insert a corner of the document, close the rounder to cut. Repeat for each corner. To empty, turn the rounder over and open the bottom cover.
How to clean the rollers?
After use, prepare the device for hot lamination (set to 80 or 125 MIC). Wait until the green light is on. Insert a sheet of paper folded in half (max thickness 0.5 mm), fold first. The paper will absorb residue. Repeat until it comes out clean.
What is the warranty for this device?
The warranty is 3 years from the date of purchase. Keep the receipt. The warranty covers material and manufacturing defects, but not normal wear, damage from improper use, or unauthorized repairs.
Can I laminate thick items like cardboard?
No, the device is designed to laminate paper documents or thin cardboard. The maximum film thickness is 125 microns hot and 200 microns cold. Do not insert overly thick materials, as this could jam the device.
What to do if the green light flashes or does not turn on?
If the green ready light flashes or stays off, it may indicate that the temperature is not reached or a heating problem. Check that the switch is in a valid position (80/125 COLD). Wait a few minutes. If the light still does not turn on, contact customer service.

Setting up

For the safe and trouble-free operation of the device, the set-up location must fulfil the following requirements:

Place the appliance on a firm, flat and level surface.
Position the appliance so that there is sufficient space in front of and behind the laminator. The laminating pouch should be able to be fully inserted into the laminator and ejected again without any problems.
Do not operate the device in a hot, wet or extremely damp environment or near flammable materials.
The mains power socket must be easily accessible, so that the power cable can be easily disconnected in the event of an emergency.

Handling and use

Suitable laminating pouches

For hot lamination, you can use pouches with a width of up to 230mm and a maximum thickness of 125~ . Please note that each laminating pouch may only be used once.

① Note

For hot lamination, use only laminating pouches that are expressly intended for hot lamination.
For cold lamination, use only laminating pouches that are expressly intended for cold lamination.
Take note that the laminating pouches supplied with the laminator are intended exclusively for hot lamination.

Switching levels

Selector switch position ②Laminating pouch thickness
80 MIC > 60-80
125 MIC 85-125
COLD up to200

① Note

For high-gloss photos, you should choose the switch setting 125 MIC as well as the corresponding laminating pouch thickness.

Preparing for hot lamination

1) Insert the plug of the laminator into a mains power socket.
2) Press the On/Off switch I/O to switch the appliance on. The red indicator light power lights up.
3) Set the selector switch 2 to the desired pouch thickness (80 MIC/125 MIC) (also refer to the Switching levels section). The laminator heats up to operating temperature. As soon as the green indicator lamp ready 6 lights up, the laminator has reached its operating temperature.

① Note

The glowing green indicator light ready 6 indicates that the operating temperature has been reached. For a more uniform laminating result, especially for thinner pouches (below 125 microns), and after adjustment to a different pouch thickness, we recommend that you first wait an additional 2-3 minutes before starting the lamination.

The green indicator lamp ready 6 may occasionally turn off and light up again. This means that the appliance is maintaining the temperature and is reheating itself. This is not a malfunction of the appliance!

4) Place the document to be laminated into a laminating pouch of the appropriate size.

① Note

Ensure that all edges of the document have at least two millimetres of space to the edges of the laminating pouch, as shown in Fig. 1.
Make certain that you use only one pouch for laminating. First flip it up, as shown in Fig. 2.

For further information about the lamination process, please read the section Lamination process.

Preparing for cold lamination

1 ATTENTION!

After hot laminating, allow the laminator to cool down completely before beginning with cold lamination. Bear in mind, the rollers inside the laminator will still be hot. This could damage the laminating pouch and the document to be laminated!

1) Insert the plug of the laminator into a mains power socket.
2) Press the On/Off switch I/O to switch the appliance on. The red indicator light power lights up.
3) Set the selector switch 2 to COLD. The green indicator light ready 6 lights up.

Lamination process

1 ATTENTION!

  • Ensure that there is sufficient space in front of and behind the laminator. Otherwise, the laminating pouch will not be ejected completely from the laminator after lamination. This could damage the laminating pouch.

1) Slide the laminating pouch slowly and straight into the slot for manual pouch insertion 5 with the closed side first. Pay attention to the markings (A4/A5). Insert the laminating pouch in the centre between the two corresponding markings, depending on the format.

① Note

If, despite this, the pouch is pulled in at an angle, use the Anti-blocking switch ABS 1 as described in the Anti-blocking switch (ABS) section.
2) When you have slid the pouch several centimetres into the slot for manual pouch insertion 5 it will automatically be pulled in the rest of the way. Release the laminating pouch as soon as you notice that it is being pulled in automatically.
3) The finished laminating pouch is ejected from the pouch output of the laminator.

① Note

Only after hot lamination: When the finished laminating pouch is ejected from the pouch output of the laminator, it is hot and can easily change its shape. For this reason, let the laminating pouch cool down for a minute before touching it.

To improve the lamination result, you can weigh down a still hot laminating pouch with a book, a file folder or any other heavy, flat object. This will help ensure a smooth, perfect surface.

4) If you do not want to start another laminating process, press the On/Off switch I/O 10 to switch off the appliance. The indicator lights 6/7 go out.

5) Pull the plug out of the mains socket.

Anti-blocking switch (ABS)

① Note

At the start of the lamination process, the laminating pouch may be pulled in at an angle or jam itself inside the appliance.

1) Press and hold the Anti-blocking switch ABS 11. The pouch will no longer be drawn in.
2) Remove the laminating pouch from the manual pouch insertion 5 and release the Anti-blocking switch ABS 1.
3) Re-start the lamination process.

Cutting function

Note

Do not cut pouches until after lamination when the appliance has cooled down.
When cutting documents, strips of paper may remain in the cutting rail 3 and may be difficult to remove.

1) Slide the cutting head 4 as far as it will go. The cutting head 4 can be pushed to both ends of the cutting rail 3.
2) Feed the paper/pouch under the cutting rail
3) Use the markings on the cutting ruler 1 to precisely align the paper/pouch if you want to shorten or cut at an angle, for example (see Fig. 3 and 4).

SILVERCREST SLG 380 D3 - Note - 1

SILVERCREST SLG 380 D3 - Note - 2

4) Hold the paper/pouch firmly in place with one hand.
5) To cut, press the cutting head ④ down with the other hand and slide it along the cutting rail ③ over the paper/pouch in one go.

Using the corner rounder

① Note

When using the corner rounde, place it on a table for better grip.

1) Remove the corner rounder 8 from the appliance.
2) Insert a corner of the paper/pouch into the corner rounder 8.
3) Press the corner rounder together.
4) Repeat the process for all the corners of the paper/pouch that you want to round off.
5) Push the corner rounder 8 back into the appliance with the underside facing inwards and the tapered side first until it clicks into place.

Emptying the corner rounder

1) To empty the corner rounder 8, turn it over and pull off the cover on the underside.
2) Empty the contents into a waste container.
3) Reattach the cover to the corner rounder 8.

Cleaning

DANGER!

  • Remove the power plug from the mains socket before starting to clean the appliance.
  • Ensure that no moisture can penetrate the device during cleaning.
  • Never immerse the appliance parts in water or other liquids!
    Never open the appliance housing.

CAUTION!

The laminator heats up during hot lamination. After switching off, wait a few minutes until the laminator has cooled down before touching the surface of the appliance. There is a risk of burns!

1 ATTENTION!

Do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaning agents, as these may corrode the surface of the casing.
Clean the housing of the appliance only with a lightly damp cloth and a mild detergent. Allow the surface of the appliance to dry fully before using it again.

Cleaning the rollers

Contaminants collect on the rollers inside the laminator during each laminating process. Over time, this adversely affects the performance of the laminator. Therefore, clean the rollers inside the laminator at regular intervals after use or as soon as the laminating result is negatively affected. Proceed as follows:

1) Prepare the appliance for use, as described in the Preparing for hot lamination section. Set the selector switch 2 to 80 MIC or to 125 MIC. The pouch thickness can be selected as required. Wait until the green indicator light ready 6 lights up.

2) Slowly insert a sheet of A4 or A5 paper folded in the centre (maximum thickness 0.5mm ) without a laminating pouch and with the fold first into the slot for manual pouch insertion ⑤.
3) Release the sheet as soon as you notice that it is being pulled in automatically. The contaminants on the rollers inside the laminator now firmly attach themselves to the sheet of paper. The paper is ejected from the pouch output of the laminator.
4) Repeat this cleaning process several times. Use a fresh sheet of paper each time. The rollers inside the laminator are cleaned once you no longer see any contaminants on the paper.

Storage

Allow the appliance to cool down before putting it away.
