Functions The range of functions is dependent on the machine concerned. UV lamp (UV 585, UV589) Bank notes are provided with distinguishing features which can be rendered visible under UV light. In the case of counterfeit bank notes, all areas light up and not just the sections which contain the UV signatures. Place the bank note in the machine. Check the features (see 1 and 2). The features are clearly visible. Please observe that older bank notes cannot al ways be conclusively identified as forgeries under UV light due to external effects. Magnetism (UV 589) Bank notes are provided with magnetic features applied by means of special ink. These features can be verified using a magnetic scanning sensor [1]. Place the bank note in the machine. Press the bank note firmly onto the magnetic sensor [1] and move the bank note back and forth quickly (see 5). The machine issues a short acoustic signal when the corresponding features are detected. White light (UV 589) Bank notes are provided with distinguishing features which can be rendered visible under white light. All the features appear on authentic bank notes and are de scribed in 6. Move the switch [2] to its front position. The machine switches from UV to white light. Place the bank note in the machine. Check the security features under white light (see 6). The distinguishing features are clearly visible. Magnifying glass (UV 589) Bank notes are provided with distinguishing features which can be rendered visible under a magnifying glass. Place the bank note in the machine. Check the features (see 4) The microprints are highly detailed and easily detect ably. Operation Switching the UV lamp on and off Switch the UV lamp on and off using the switch [3]. On Off UV 589 Move the switch [2] to its rear position. Wait for about one minute after switching the machine on for the lamp to heat up to its optimum operating tem perature. If the machine will not be used for a longer period, disconnect it from the power outlet. The machine is equipped with a pivoting support on the rear side which enables it to be set at an angle.9
