Use suitable accessories only (see manufacturer’s directions). All other applications are expressly excluded. The machine is intended only for use in the household. 5 – General safety instructions for handling power tools WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool. Work area
- Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control. Electrical Safety
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
- Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
- Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
- When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. Personal safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. 5452770-Bohrhammer-man 10.04.14 13:25 Seite 35• Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust masks, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
- Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
- Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
- Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.
- If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. Use of these devices can reduce dust related hazards. Power tool use and care
- Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
- Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
- Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
- Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
- Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking into
5452770-Bohrhammer-man 10.04.14 13:25 Seite 36account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation. Service

5452770-Bohrhammer-man 10.04.14 13:25 Seite 37The housing is double insulated Voluntary “geprüfte Sicherheit” seal of quality (tested safety) CE mark (conformity with European safety standards) 7 – Installation and setting Inserting tool (Fig. 4+5) CAUTION! Pull out mains plug! Point the chuck upwards. Insert the slightly greased shaft of the tool and turn it to the locking point. Push the retaining bush down to the stop: The tool slips into the retaining bore. Release the retaining bush. It must return to its initial position. Remove tool (Fig. 6) CAUTION! Pull out mains plug! Push the retaining bush back. Pull the tool out of the drill chuck. Mounting the additional handle (Fig. 7) The additional handle (10) can be attached both to the right or left side of the chuck. Turn the additional handle grip (2) counterclockwise until it can be pushed over the chuck (1) onto the clamping collar (8). Here the holder cam (a) on the underside of the clamping collar must engage in one of the 14 holder slots of the clamping ring (b). A favourable working position can be selected in this manner, and the additional handle can at the same time be secured against slipping caused by vibration. Tighten the grip by turning it clockwise until it is firmly attached to the tool. Setting the drill-depth stop (Figs. 8a+b)
- Insert the drill bit and lock it in position.
- Undo the thumb screw (15) on the additional handle (Fig. 7) by turning it counterclockwise.
- Place the depth stop (3) into the guide (c) in such a way (Fig. 8a) that either the numbers or the millimeter scale can be read off in the inspection window (d) (Fig. 8b). Adjust the drill- depth stop to the length of the drill bit; to do this, press the drill bit against a level wall.
- Read the value in the inspection window of the depth stop and subtract the desired drilling depth from this figure.
- The new value is set by sliding the depth stop in the inspection window. Fix the depth stop by turning the thumb screw clockwise. 8 – Operation Speed selection (Fig. 9) To avoid damage or wear to material, observe the manufacturer’s speed recommendations. Speed selection with knob (5):
- Turn knob in direction „+“ until it stops = highest speed.
- Turn knob in direction „–“ until it stops = lowest speed.
5452770-Bohrhammer-man 10.04.14 13:25 Seite 38Depending on pressure, the speed can be controlled continuously on the On/Off switch (6) up to the speed set on knob (5). In continuous operation with the On/Off switch locked, the machine runs at the speed previously selected. Setting type of operation (Fig. 10) ATTENTION! Set any type of operation only when the motor has come to a complete stop! To set the type of operation required, press the lock button on the selector switch (9) and set the selector switch by turning the arrow symbol clockwise or counterclockwise to the type of operation required. Release the lock button to fix the selector switch in the position selected. Meaning of the symbols
1. – Drilling without hammer action
in wood and metal. To do this, insert a conventional chuck (11) with adapter (included in delivery) into the chuck (1).
2. – Tighten and loosen screws in
conjunction with a conventional chuck (11) and suitable bits and bit holders (not supplied). Hammer drilling in concrete and masonry without additional chuck. To do this, suitable hammer drills (14) are inserted into the chuck (1). Chiselling in tiles and masonry. To this end, suitable chisels (13) are inserted into the chuck (1). The tool’s turning function is switched off in this type of operation. Adjusting working angle. In this position, a chisel clamped in the chuck can be manually turned to set a favourable working angle of the chisel to the tool. As soon as the selector switch is turned to the chisel type of operation ( ), the working angle set is locked and retained during operation. Starting and stopping The voltage of the power supply must comply with the voltage stated on the machine plate. Quick-action switch (Fig. 9)
- Switching on: Press ON/OFF switch (6)
- Switching off: Release ON/OFF switch (6) Continuous mode (Fig. 9)
- Switching on: Press ON/OFF switch (6) and then press locking button (7).
- Switching off: Press ON/OFF switch (6) and release. Switching clockwise or counter clock - wise rotation (Fig. 11)
- For hammer-drilling, drilling, inserting screws: Set selector switch (4) to position "clockwise rotation".
5452770-Bohrhammer-man 10.04.14 13:25 Seite 39Information: The speed for counterclock rotation is reduced by the tool design. With increased speed of counterclock rotation there may be therefore more sparking in the motor`s commutator. This is normal and is not indicative of any defects. 9 – Mode of operation ATTENTION! All insertion tools illustrated are not included in the delivery! ATTENTION! When working, always hold the tool firmly with both hands! Chiselling in tiles and masonry (Figs. 12/13/14) Insert the chisel into the chuck (1) as described above. When using a flat chisel, turn the selector switch for the type of operation (9) to the position and turn the chisel to set a favourable working angle. Lock the set chisel setting by turning to the position ( ). Set the chisel on the material. Switch on the tool and start with a low impact count, raising it when required. Do not exert any excessive pressure on the material to enable the chisel to develop its full power. Hammer-drilling in masonry (Fig. 15) Set the selector switch for the type of operation (9) to hammer-drilling ( ). Set selector switch (4) to clockwise rotation. Start at a low speed. A pneumatic hammer generates the impact necessary for hammer drilling in stone. This electro- pneumatic principle results in high elasticity and no back-kick during drilling. Unlike the hammer drill, the drilling power does not depend on pressure. Higher pressure does not increase efficiency or performance! With large boreholes, first pre-drill with a small drill bit diameter. Drilling wood and metal (Figs. 16/17/18) Insert the crown-gear chuck (11) íncluded in the delivery for conventional wood and metal bits into the chuck (1) as described under "Changing tools". Open the chuck with the chuck key (12) and insert a conventional wood or metal drill bit. Using the chuck key, lock up the drill chuck tightly. Speed selection with the knob (5). Set selector switch (4) to clockwise rotation. Press ON/OFF switch (6) and drill at the maximum speed set. Tightening and loosening screws (Fig. 19) Any type of screwdriver bit can be inserted into the crown-gear chuck, if necessary using a bit holder (not supplied). Set selector switch (4) to clockwise rotation for inserting screws. ATTENTION! To obtain the best power transmission, always use a bit that matches the particular screw head concerned! ATTENTION! In order not to damage the screw heads, always start at a low speed, increasing it when required! Set selector switch (4) to counter clock - wise rotation for loosening screws. Start at a low operating torque to avoid tight- fitting screw heads from twisting off. Increase the operating torque carefully when required.
5452770-Bohrhammer-man 10.04.14 13:25 Seite 40In counterclockwise rotation, the maximum speed is lower than in clockwise rotation! 10 – Maintenance and environmental protection
- Clean the machine case only with a damp cloth – Do not use solvents! Then dry well.
