Therefore, always remove the plug from the wall socket after use. Additional protection is offered by fi tting an earth-leakage circuit-breaker with a rated tripping current not exceeding 30 mA into your home installation. Please consult a qualifi ed electrician. ∙ Before the appliance is used, the main body as well as any attachment fi tted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. Should the appliance, for instance, have been dropped onto a hard surface, it must no longer be used: even invisible damage may have adverse effects on the operational safety of the appliance. ∙ Always switch off and remove the plug from the wall socket after use, as well as - in cases of malfunction, and - during cleaning. ∙ When removing the plug from the wall socket, never pull on the power cord; always grip the plug itself. ∙ Caution: the trimming blade is extremely sharp; to prevent injuries, ensure that at all times during use the blade does not touch the skin. ∙ Do not operate the appliance without supervision. ∙ No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.11 ∙ Do not use the appliance on pets or other animals. Use Cutting length fi ne adjustment The side adjusting lever allows smooth fi ne-adjustment of the cutting length from approx. 1 to 1.6 mm, even during operation. Trimming heads The push-on combs provided extend the range of the cutting length. Fit the required head attachment onto the trimming comb, pushing it fi rmly down until it is heard locking into place. After use, release the attachment at the back and lift it off. Trimming heads 3-13 mm The trimming heads provided allow for cutting lengths of 3, 6, 9 and 13 mm. Tapered trimming heads The tapered trimming heads are designed for cutting the hair while avoiding a ‘stepped’ effect. In this way, the hair above the ears is cut shorter, while remaining longer towards the top of the head. Operation ∙ Before cutting, the hair should be clean and thoroughly combed fi rst. ∙ When cutting longer hair, use a push-on comb or cut hair above a normal comb. ∙ Always start with the largest push-on comb, as this will help you to get a feel for cutting the hair to the desired length. ∙ For shorter hair-cuts, follow-up with a smaller push-on comb or without any comb attachment. ∙ Insert the plug into a wall outlet and turn the appliance on. ∙ Cut from bottom to top with the trimming comb lying against the head; lead the appliance upwards through the hair, moving it gradually away from the head at the same time. ∙ The tapered trimming heads are designed for cutting the hair around the ears while avoiding a ‘stepped’ effect. For the right side of the head, the attachment marked ‘Right Taper’ should be used; for the opposite side use the one marked ‘Left Taper’. Start trimming from the back of the head and cut the hair against its natural direction of growth towards the temples. ∙ For a shaped cut, reverse the appliance and shorten the hair from top to bottom without a push-on comb. ∙ Always switch off after use and remove the plug from the wall socket.12 Care and Cleaning ∙ It is essential to switch off the unit and remove the plug from the wall socket before cleaning and oiling. ∙ To avoid the risk of electric shock, the appliance must not be immersed in liquid or even allowed to come into contact with liquid. ∙ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions. ∙ If necessary, the housing may be wiped with a dry, lint-free cloth. Trimming comb and trimming blade ∙ After each use, use the cleaning brush to remove the hair between the trimming comb and the trimming blade. ∙ After cleaning, and also after the appliance has been used for approx. 20 minutes, put a few drops of acid-free oil between the trimming comb and the trimming blade and then switch the appliance briefl y on to ensure that the oil is well and evenly distributed. Regular oiling will guarantee good cutting performance over a long period and thus a long service life. ∙ When the appliance is not in use, put the protective cover over the trimming comb.
