Before using the appliance, the user should read the following instructions carefully.

Important safety instructions

■ Before the appliance is used, the main unit as well as any attachments fitted should be checked thoroughly for any defects. If the appliance, for instance, has been dropped onto a hard surface, it must not be used any longer. Even invisible damage may have adverse effects on its operational safety.
■ Batteries are not to be

• recharged (nor should any attempt be made to reactivate them),
• dismantled,
• disposed of by burning,
• short-circuited.

■ Caution: The shaping head and the blade unit of the shaving head are extremely sharp. To prevent injuries, take special care when taking off the head; ensure at all times that the blade does not touch the skin during use.
For safety reasons, the batteries should be removed before cleaning the appliance. This will prevent accidental operation that may cause cuts and bruises or possible damage to the appliance itself.
■ All batteries should be replaced at the same time. Do not use different battery types or

brands or batteries with different capacities.

This appliance is not intended for use by any persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lacking experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instructions concerning the use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
■ Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
■ Caution: Keep any packaging materials well away from children: there is a risk of suffocation.
■ No responsibility is accepted if damage results from improper use, or if these instructions are not complied with.
■ This appliance is intended for domestic use only and not for commercial applications.
In order to comply with safety regulations and to avoid hazards, repairs of electrical appliances must be carried out by qualified personnel. If repairs are needed, please send the appliance to one of our customer service departments. The address can be found in the appendix to this manual.

Batteries

• The unit is designed for use with two standard 'AAA'-type 1.5V batteries, preferably alkaline, as they have a longer life than the carbon-zinc type. With rechargeable batteries, which have a lower nominal operating voltage, the unit will operate at a slightly reduced speed.

• Insert the batteries as follows:

• pull the ribbed locking tab away from the unit and take off the battery compartment cover

• insert new batteries ensuring correct polarity (+/-, see diagram inside the compartment)

• replace the cover, pushing it firmly down until it is heard to lock into place.

• A decrease in the operating speed indicates that the batteries need to be replaced.
  ■ Never dispose of old batteries in your domestic garbage. Old batteries must be

disposed of through local special garbage collection points.

Always remove the batteries during extended periods of non-use. This will help to prevent damage to the appliance caused by leaking batteries.

Operation

• Remove the protective cover.
• Use the On/Off switch to turn the appliance on.
• Start shaving the desired skin areas.
• Use the On/Off switch to turn the appliance off after use.
• Replace the protective cover on the shaving head after every use.

Shaping head

• The shaping head allows for precise shaping of the beard:
• Use the ribbed area to slide out the shaping head until it is heard locking into place.
• Start shaping the beard exactly as desired.
• Slide the shaping head back to its former position.

A few remarks on shaving

• We recommend shaving before washing or taking a shower, as the skin will swell slightly after washing.
• Move the shaving head at right angles to the skin against the natural growth of the beard, while tightening the skin with your fingers.

Cleaning and care

■ Switch off the appliance and remove the batteries before cleaning.
■ For safety reasons, the appliance must not be immersed in nor allowed to come into contact with liquid. The housing may be

wiped with a slightly damp cloth.

■ Do not use abrasives or harsh cleaning solutions.

Shaving head

- After use, remove hair residue from the blade unit with the cleaning brush. To remove the head, grip it on both sides and pull off.

Caution! The blade unit is extremely sharp! There is a risk of injury.

• The shaving foil should only be cleaned by gently tapping it. Do not use the cleaning brush.
• The blade unit is subject to wear and must be replaced if it shows signs of over-usage.
• Put the protective cover on the shaving head when not in use.

Shaping head

- Slide out the shaping head and clean it with the cleaning brush.

Caution! The shaping head is extremely sharp! There is a risk of injury.

- Before use, and also after the appliance has been used for approx. 15 minutes, put a drop of acid-free oil between the trimming comb and the trimming blade of the shaping head, and then switch the appliance on briefly to ensure that the oil is evenly distributed. Regular oiling guarantees good cutting performance over a long period and thus a long service life.

Disposal

Do not dispose of old or defective appliances in domestic garbage; this should only be done through public collection points.

Guarantee

This product is guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of purchase. Under this guarantee the manufacturer undertakes to repair or replace any parts found to be defective, providing the product is returned to

one of our authorised service centres. This guarantee is only valid if the appliance has been used in accordance with the instructions, and provided that it has not been modified, repaired or interfered with by any unauthorised person, or damaged through misuse.

This guarantee naturally does not cover wear and tear, nor breakables such as glass and ceramic items, bulbs etc. This guarantee does not affect your statutory rights, nor any legal rights you may have as a consumer under applicable national legislation governing the purchase of goods. If the product fails to operate and needs to be returned, pack it carefully, enclosing your name and address and the reason for return. If within the guarantee period, please also provide the guarantee card and proof of purchase.
