Frequently Asked Questions - DistanceMaster Vision Laserliner

How to turn on and measure a distance?
Press the ON button (a) to turn on the device. The laser activates. Aim at the target and press the same button again to take a measurement. The result is displayed.
How to change the measurement unit?
Enter the setting menu by pressing the MENU SET button (d). Navigate to the unit option (m/ft/''/inch) and confirm with the MENU SET button. Use the '+' or '-' keys to change, then confirm again.
What to do in case of error Err 1 or Err 2?
Err 1: signal received too weak. Check that the target is reflective and clean. Err 2: signal received too strong. Move away from the target or use a less reflective surface.
How to use the continuous measurement function?
Press the ON button (a) for 2 seconds to activate continuous measurement. The device measures continuously and displays min., max. values and the difference. Press ON again to stop.
How to set the measuring plane (reference)?
Press the DIST button (a) several times to switch between planes: front, thread, rear (stop), and pin. The corresponding symbol appears on the screen.
How to recharge the batteries?
Use the supplied USB cable to connect the device to a USB charger. The device only charges NiMH AAA 1.2 V rechargeable batteries. Do not attempt to charge other battery types.
The camera function does not work, what to do?
Check that the camera (7) is not obstructed. Press the camera button (g) to activate it. If error Err 7 appears, it may be a hardware defect; contact customer service.
How to use the Pythagoras function?
Press the angle/Pythagoras button (i) several times to select Pythagoras 1, 2 or 3 (displayed as 1x, 2x, 3x). Follow the on-screen instructions to measure the necessary sides; the result is calculated automatically.
How to clean the device?
Use a soft, dry cloth. Do not let water enter the housing. Do not use abrasive products or solvents.
The device turns off by itself, is that normal?
Yes, a power-saving function automatically turns off the device after an adjustable period of inactivity (20 s for the display illumination, 60 s for the laser, 150 s for the device). You can change these delays in the setting menu.

The Ground Truth image displays a single, solid horizontal line. According to Rule 2 (UNDERSCORE & LINE RULES), this is a stylistic or background line, not a placeholder underscore. Therefore, the OCR result must ignore it and output nothing or only meaningful text. The provided OCR content is "____", which consists of four underscores. This is an incorrect interpretation of the line as a placeholder, violating the rule that stylistic lines must be ignored. The OCR has hallucinated underscores where none should exist based on the GT's visual context. Hence, the OCR result is inconsistent with the Ground Truth.

Important notices

  • The laser points to the location that will be measured.
No objects may get into the laser's line of measurement.
  • The device compensates the measurement for different room temperatures.
Therefore allow the device a brief adaptation period when changing locations with large temperature differences.
  • The device is only conditionally useable in outdoor areas and cannot be used in strong sunlight.
  • The measurement results of outdoor measurements may be influenced or falsified by rain, fog and snow.
  • In unfavourable conditions, e.g. with poorly reflecting surfaces, the maximum deviation may be greater than 3 mm.
  • Carpeting, upholstery or curtains will not reflect the laser optimally. Measure to flat surfaces.
  • Measurements made through glass (window panes) can falsify measurement results.
  • An energy-saving function switches the device off automatically.
  • Clean with a soft cloth. Water may not be allowed to penetrate the housing.
