How to use the BDBBC2C booster?

Plug the black socket into the 12 V socket of the vehicle with a charged battery, then the orange socket into the vehicle with a weak battery. Wait approximately 20 minutes for the indicators to turn green, then remove the orange socket and try to start with 3-5 second pulses.

What to do if the indicators do not light up?

Check that the socket of the charged vehicle is powered (on some vehicles, the key must be in the accessories position). Make sure the sockets are fully inserted and check the condition of the fuse in the accessory socket (8 A).

Can I use this charger for a completely drained battery?

No, this device cannot start a vehicle if the battery is completely discharged. It is designed to boost a weak battery that still has a little charge.

What type of battery can I boost?

Only 12 V lead-acid batteries. Do not use on dry anode batteries or marine batteries (on board a boat).

How to replace the fuse in the accessory socket?

Turn the cap counterclockwise, remove it with the central shaft, replace the fuse with a new 8 A fuse, then reassemble the cap by tightening clockwise.

The housing heats up during use, is this normal?

Yes, the housing and sockets may heat up during the boosting process. This is a normal phenomenon.

How to maintain the BDBBC2C charger?

Unplug the device before any maintenance. Clean the housing with a damp cloth, without solvent or abrasive. Do not immerse in water.

Can I recharge non-rechargeable batteries with this device?

No, never attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries. Use only on 12 V lead-acid batteries.

What to do if the vehicle does not start after boosting?

Repeat steps 2 to 4 and extend the boosting by an additional 10 minutes. If the problem persists, have the battery checked by an electrician.

How to recycle the device at end of life?

Do not dispose of the device with household waste. Take it to a recycling center or return it to an authorized Black & Decker repairer for recycling.

Your Black & Decker 'Car to Car Simple Start' is designed to boost a depleted battery on a host vehicle from a donor vehicle.

Note: This unit will not start a flat battery.

◆ Do not expose the battery to water.

Warning! Battery fluid is a diluted sulphuric acid and may cause personal injury or damage to property. In case of skin contact, immediately rinse with water. If redness, pain or irritation occurs seek medical attention. In case of eye contact, rinse immediately with clean water and seek immediate medical attention.

When disposing of batteries, follow the instructions given in the section 'Protecting the environment'.

Warning! Risk of explosive gas mixtures. Working in the vicinity of a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries generate explosive gases during normal battery operation. For this reason, it is of utmost importance that each time, you read this manual and follow the instructions exactly.

Use of an attachment not recommended or sold by Black & Decker may result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.

Warning! A marine (boat) battery must be removed and charged on shore. To charge it on board requires equipment specially designed for marine use. This appliance is NOT designed for such use.

- Vehicles may have electrical and electronic systems (e.g. engine management system, mobile phone) that may be damaged if subjected to high starting voltages and voltage peaks. Before connecting the appliance to the vehicle read the vehicle's owner's manual to confirm that external-starting assistance is allowed.

◆ Follow these instructions and those published by the battery manufacturer, vehicle manufacturer and manufacturer of any equipment you intend to use with this unit. Review warning labels on these products and on the vehicle.
This appliance is not designed to be used as a replacement for a vehicular battery. Do not attempt to operate a vehicle that does not have a battery installed.
The appliance must only be connected to a 12 V lead-acid battery. Do not use the appliance for charging dry-cell batteries that are commonly used with home appliances. These batteries may burst and cause injury to persons and damage property.

Warning! Explosive gas may be vented from the lead-acid batteries when charging and under extreme conditions battery leakage may occur. Make sure that the area is well ventilated when conducting jump starting and charging procedures.

Use

Warning! Make sure that the car is in neutral and the parking brake is applied.

Step 1

• Connect the black 12 Vdc accessory plug (5) into the 12 V outlet on the working vehicle and make sure that the power LED (1) lights.
  ◆ Start the engine on the working vehicle.

Step 2

◆ Fully unwind the cord from the cord storage (4) and connect the orange 12 Vdc accessory plug (5) into the 12 V outlet on the dead vehicle and make sure that the boosting LED (2) lights.

Step 3

When the dead car is sufficiently boosted to start the engine both the power LED (1) and the boosting LED (2) will change colour to green (approx. 20 minutes).
- Remove the orange 12 Vdc accessory plug (5) from the dead car and try starting the vehicle in 3-5 second bursts.

Note: The housing (6) and the 12 Vdc accessory plugs (5) will become warm during the boosting process. This is normal.

Step 4

Remove the black 12 Vdc accessory plug (5) from the working car and coil the cable around the cord storage (4) and fit the 12 Vdc accessory plugs (5) into the plug storage apertures (3).

Maintenance

Your Black & Decker tool has been designed to operate over a long period of time with a minimum of maintenance.

Continuous satisfactory operation depends upon proper care and regular cleaning.

Warning! Before performing any maintenance or cleaning on the appliance, unplug the appliance.

• From time to time wipe the appliance with a damp cloth. Do not use any abrasive or solvent-based cleaner. Do not immerse the appliance in water.
• Clean the outside case with a soft cloth and, if necessary, mild soap solution.
  Do not allow liquid to enter the unit. Do not operate when the unit is wet.
• Keep the cords coiled during storage to prevent damage to the cords.

Troubleshooting

If the power and boosting LED's (1 & 2) do not light up check the following:

◆ Check that the donor vehicles 12 V accessory socket is live, some cars require the key to be in the accessory position before the socket is live.
◆ Check that the 12 Vdc accessory plugs (5) are fully inserted.
◆ Check for blown fuses in the 12 Vdc accessory plugs (5).

If your car fails to start:

• Repeat steps 2-4 in the 'use' section and continue the boosting process for a further 10 minutes or until the LED's change to green.
  If your car still fails to start we suggest you have your battery checked by a qualified auto-electrician.

Replacing the fuse in the vehicle dc accessory plug

◆ Remove the cap by turning it counter clockwise.
◆ Remove the cap and centre pin.
◆ Remove the fuse.
◆ Fit a new fuse of the same type and size (8 A).
◆ Refit the cap and centre pin.
◆ Tighten the cap by turning clockwise onto the plug.

Protecting the environment

Separate collection. This product must not be disposed of with normal household waste.

Should you find one day that your Black & Decker product needs replacement, or if it is of no further use to you, do not dispose of it with household waste. Make this product available for separate collection.

Separate collection of used products and packaging allows materials to be recycled and used again. Re-use of recycled materials helps prevent environmental pollution and reduces the demand for raw materials.
