  2. Inspect the appliance for damage. If there is visible damage, do not operate the appliance; instead, contact our customer service department.
  3. Clean all parts with a damp cloth, as described in the chapter "Cleaning and care".
  4. Close the appliance and connect the plug to a wall socket (220-240 V~, 50/60 Hz). The indicator lights up.
  5. Turn the temperature control to the intermediate position to start to preheat.
  6. Heat the appliance up for a couple of minutes without dough, in order to eliminate possible manufacturing residues. Make sure the room is well ventilated during this process. After the initial heating process the appliance might show signs of wear, which do not affect its features and do not constitute a reason for rejection. non-stick coated, greasing is only necessary before the very first use).
  7. The appliance may generate a slight smell when first using it, which is absolutely normal.
  8. Before first use, slightly grease both waffle plates with heat resistant grease like margarine, for example, using a pastry brush (as the waffle plates are non-stick coated, greasing is only necessary before the very first use).
  9. The first waffle should not be used and should be thrown away.

USING THE APPLIANCE

  1. Close the appliance and place the plug in a power socket (220-240 V~, 50/60 Hz). The indicator lamp in the temperature control lights up.
  2. Turn the temperature control to the desired position between "Min" and "Max". Preheating begins, and the indicator lamp is lit red. Once the appliance has reached the pre-set temperature, the indicator lamp lights up green.
  3. Now, use a ladle to add batter to each centre of the lower baking surface. Always fill both baking surfaces to prevent damage to the appliance.
  4. The batter will spread evenly when you close the appliance. Always make sure to add the right amount of batter. If you add too little

batter, the top of the appliance will not be seated properly; the top side of the waffles will then not be as brown as the bottom side. If the batter overflows, the excess will be caught in the channel and baked as well. When baking is complete, you can simply remove this surplus rim from the waffle.

  1. Close the appliance immediately after filling in batter to allow the waffle to be browned evenly on the top and the bottom.
  2. The waffles are now being baked.
  3. Open the appliance carefully and remove the finished waffle. Refrain from using metal objects as they might scratch the coating of the baking plates.
  4. If the waffle is not browned enough, close the appliance again and keep repeating steps 5 through 7 until the waffle has been browned to your satisfaction.
  5. Notice about the baking lights: When it is green, the indicator lamp signals that the temperature has been reached again, but not that the waffle is finished. The baking time of the waffle varies with the batter you use and with your personal taste. Therefore, always check before taking the waffle out if the waffle has been baked to your satisfaction. Our experience has shown that Brussels Waffles are finished after baking for approx. 6 to 8 minutes.
  6. To make more waffles, close the appliance and wait until the indicator lamp lights up green. Proceed with steps 2 to 9 until you have used up all the batter.
  7. When finished baking, set the control to "0" and unplug the appliance. Only then can you be sure the appliance is safely switched off.

RECIPES

You can also make all recipes with whole-wheat flour or whole-meal spelt flour instead of sifted cake flour. In this case use approx. 15% more liquid and let the batter stand for 30 min. before starting to make waffles.

For flavour variations you can add approx. 2 cl of rum or Amaretto, 1 TBSP of grated lemon peel, 12 bottle of butter vanilla flavouring. 3 TBPS of finely chopped nuts or almonds. You can vary the flavour of savoury waffles by adding 2-3 TBSP of finely chopped herbs, grated cheese or boiled ham, 1 TPSP curry, caraway or 1 TBSP of flax seed. For many recipes there is no need to grease the waffle plates. Waffle batter that contains little or no grease, requires greased waffle plates. Use a brush to apply heat-resistant margarine to the plates (do not use diet margarine). If you separate the eggs, beat the egg white until it is stiff, and then fold it into the batter, you will get particularly fluffy and airy waffles (not with yeast dough). Please note that Belgian waffles will be thicker than conventional waffles and consequently take slightly longer to cook. Each of the recipes makes approx. 8 to 10 waffles.

If you want to use stevia instead of sugar, simply replace the tbsp specification for sugar with a tsp specification for stevia (e.g. replace 5 tbsp sugar with 5 tsp stevia. Caution: In this case the dough will be somewhat thinner).

Honey or syrup is used like sugar. In this case the sweetening effect is not as strong, however browning of the waffles is more pronounced.
