FIRST USE

  1. Before first use, we recommend cleaning the non-stick waffle plates with a damp cloth.
  2. Close the appliance and connect the plug to a wall socket (220–240 V\~, 50 Hz). The indicator lights up.

  3. Turn the temperature control to the intermediate position to start to preheat. When the appliance has reached the preset temperature, the indicator "Ready" turns off.

  4. Heat the appliance up for a couple of minutes without dough, in order to eliminate possible manufacturing residues. Make sure the room is well ventilated during this process. After the initial heating process the appliance might show signs of wear, which do not affect its features and do not constitute a reason for rejection.
  5. Before first use, slightly grease both waffle plates with heat resistant grease like margarine, for example, using a pastry brush (as the waffle plates are non-stick coated, greasing is only necessary before the very first use).
  6. The appliance may generate a slight smell when first using it, which is absolutely normal.
  7. The first waffle should not be used and should be thrown away.

BEFORE USING THE APPLIANCE THE FIRST TIME

  1. Close the appliance and connect the plug to a wall socket (220–240 V\~, 50 Hz). The indicator lights up.
  2. Turn the temperature control to the intermediate position to start to preheat. When the appliance has reached the preset temperature, the indicator "Ready" turns off.
  3. Now pour the batter onto the middle of the lower baking surface with a ladle. When closing the appliance the batter is distributed uniformly. Always ensure that you correctly dose the amount of batter. If you use too little batter the upper part of the appliance will not sit correctly; in this case the waffles will not be as brown on top as they are on the bottom. If you use too much batter the excess batter will overflow and adhere on the appliance and the countertop.
  4. After pouring on the batter, close the appliance immediately so that the waffle browns uniformly on the top and bottom.
  5. Carefully open the appliance and remove the finished waffle. Do not use any metallic objects to do this, to avoid scratching the coating of the baking plates.
  6. If the waffle is not yet brown enough, close the appliance and repeat steps 5 and 6 until the waffle is the way you like it.
  7. Note concerning the baking signal lights: When the indicator “Ready” light is illuminated, this means that the temperature has again been reached, however it does not mean that the waffle is done. The bake time of the waffle depends on the dough used and your personal taste. Consequently, before

removing the waffle, please check whether it is done the way you want it. Our experience shows that Brussels waffles are done after 6 to 8 minutes.

  1. To make additional waffles, close the appliance and wait until the green indicator light is off. Continue with steps 2 to 8 until the batter is used up.
  2. After making waffles, unplug the mains plug. The device is not switched off until it is unplugged.

  1. Never immerse the appliance into water or any other liquid.
  2. It is best to clean the baking surface while it is still warm with a soft brush or with a damp cloth.
  3. Never use pointed or hard objects. They would scratch the anti-stick coating.
  4. The appliance must be completely dry before using it again.

RECIPES

You can also make all recipes with whole-wheat flour or whole-meal spelt flour instead of sifted cake flour. In this case use approx. 15% more liquid and let the batter stand for 30 min. before starting to make waffles.

For flavour variations you can add approx. 2 cl of rum or Amaretto, 1 TBSP of grated lemon peel, 12 bottle of butter vanilla flavouring. 3 TBPS of finely chopped nuts or almonds. You can vary the flavour of savoury waffles by adding 2-3 TBSP of finely chopped herbs, grated cheese or boiled ham, 1 TPSP curry, caraway or 1 TBSP of flax seed. For many recipes there is no need to grease the waffle plates. Waffle batter that contains little or no grease, requires greased waffle plates. Use a brush to apply heat-resistant margarine to the plates (do not use diet margarine). If you separate the eggs, beat the egg white until it is stiff, and then fold it into the batter, you will get particularly fluffy and airy waffles (not with yeast dough). Please note that Belgian waffles will be thicker than conventional waffles and consequently take slightly longer to cook. Each of the recipes makes approx. 8 to 10 waffles.

If you want to use stevia instead of sugar, simply replace the tblsp specification for sugar with a tsp specification for stevia (e.g. replace 5 tblsp sugar with 5 tsp stevia. Caution: In this case the dough will be somewhat thinner).

Honey or syrup is used like sugar.

In this case the sweetening effect is not as strong, however browning of the waffles is more pronounced.

If you use sugar substitutes, you should turn over the waffle maker after 3 to 4 minutes, because the dough does not rise as much as it does with sugar. By turning you achieve uniform browning on both sides (turn the appliance 180 degrees so that the underside is facing upward).
