What types of batteries can I charge with the VLEVP1?

The VLEVP1 charger is compatible with lithium-ion batteries of 3.6 V or 3.7 V, including formats: 10440, 14500, 14650, 16340, 17335, 17500, 17670, 18350, 18490, 18500, 18650, 18700, 22650 to 25500, and 26650. Do not charge other types of batteries.

How to use the VLEVP1 charger?

Connect the charger to a 5 V USB power source (adapter not included). Insert the battery respecting polarity. Charging starts automatically. The red LED indicates charging, the green LED signals the battery is fully charged. Remove the battery after charging.

What do the LEDs on the charger mean?

No LED: no battery inserted or battery poorly connected. Red LED: charging in progress or battery activated. Green LED: battery fully charged. If both LEDs flash or the red LED flashes, there may be reverse polarity or a short-circuit.

Can I leave the battery in the charger overnight?

Yes, the VLEVP1 has automatic shut-off and automatic reset functions. When the battery voltage drops below 4.1 V, the charger automatically restarts a charging cycle. It is however recommended to remove the battery once charging is complete.

What charging current is used?

The charger automatically selects the charging current between 0.5 A and 1.0 A depending on the battery to optimize its lifespan.

What to do if the battery is over-discharged?

The VLEVP1 has a 0 V function that can reactivate over-discharged batteries. Insert the battery normally; if charging does not start, try inserting the battery before connecting the power.

Does the charger protect against short-circuits?

Yes, the VLEVP1 includes protection against reverse polarity and short-circuits on the charger side. However, this does not protect the battery against an internal short-circuit.

Can I use the charger outdoors?

The VLEVP1 is designed for indoor use only. Protect it from rain, humidity and water splashes. It can however be powered by a 5 V solar energy source for outdoor use, provided it is sheltered from water.

How to clean the charger?

Clean the housing regularly with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive products or solvents. Make sure the charger is unplugged before cleaning.

What to do if the charger does not work?

First check the battery polarity, USB connection and power supply. If the problem persists, refer to the complete manual. Do not attempt to repair yourself; contact your dealer or Velleman after-sales service. The warranty covers manufacturing defects for 24 months.

4. Features

The maximum charging current of the VLEVP1 is 1 A current. Fully charging a 18650 battery takes 3 hours. The device automatically chooses the most suitable charging current (0.5 A or 1.0 A) to ensure the longest lifespan for your batteries. Just insert your battery in the charger and it will take care of the rest.

5. Operation

1. Before charging your batteries, check that the battery types are compatible with the VLEVP1.
2. Connect the charger to the power source using the included USB cable. The charger goes into stand-by.
3. Insert the battery into the charging slot. Mind the polarity. Charging starts automatically.
4. The VLEVP1 will stop charging when the battery is fully charged. Also, the LED will turn from red to green. Remove the battery from the charger.

Remarks

• The VLEVP1 is only for use with 10440 - 14500 - 14650 - 16340 - 17335 - 17500 - 17670 - 18350 - 18490 - 18500 - 18650 - 18700 - 22650 - 25500 - 26650 3.6 V and 3.7 V Li-ion batteries. Charging other battery types may be hazardous, and can damage the batteries and charger.
• Keep the VLEVP1 away from water and excessive dust.
• Do not disassemble the VLEVP1 as damage may result.
• Do not use a damaged VLEVP1.

Tips

• Because of different battery types, capacities and over-charge depths, the battery revive time may vary. Heavily over-discharged batteries may not be able to be revived.
• To top up a battery with a voltage of 4.0V or higher, insert the battery first before plugging in an AC adapter (not incl.). If you do the opposite, the charger may not charge the battery.
• It is recommended to remove the battery from the charger once charging has completed. If the battery is left in the charger, the charger will automatically restart the charging cycle when the battery voltage drops below 4.1 V.
• The VLEVP1 has an integrated short-circuit protection. Note that this protection only protects the charger but does not prevent the battery from short-circuiting internally.

• All consumer products are subject to a 24-month warranty on production flaws and defective material as from the original date of purchase.
• Velleman® can decide to replace an article with an equivalent article, or to refund the retail value totally or partially when the complaint is valid and a free repair or replacement of the article is impossible, or if the expenses are out of proportion.

You will be delivered a replacing article or a refund at the value of 100% of the purchase price in case of a flaw occurred in the first year after the date of purchase and delivery, or a replacing article at 50% of the purchase price or a refund at the value of 50% of the retail value in case of a flaw occurred in the second year after the date of purchase and delivery.

- Not covered by warranty:

• all direct or indirect damage caused after delivery to the article (e.g. by oxidation, shocks, falls, dust, dirt, humidity...), and by the article, as well as its contents (e.g. data loss), compensation for loss of profits;
• consumable goods, parts or accessories that are subject to an aging process during normal use, such as batteries (rechargeable, non-rechargeable, built-in or replaceable), lamps, rubber parts, drive belts... (unlimited list);

• flaws caused deliberately, negligently or resulting from improper handling, negligent

maintenance, abusive use or use contrary to the manufacturer's instructions;

• damage caused by a commercial, professional or collective use of the article (the warranty validity will be reduced to six (6) months when the article is used professionally);
• damage resulting from an inappropriate packing and shipping of the article;
• all damage caused by modification, repair or alteration performed by a third party without written permission by Velleman®.
• Articles to be repaired must be delivered to your Velleman® dealer, solidly packed (preferably in the original packaging), and be completed with the original receipt of purchase and a clear flaw description.
• Hint: In order to save on cost and time, please reread the manual and check if the flaw is caused by obvious causes prior to presenting the article for repair. Note that returning a non-defective article can also involve handling costs.
• Repairs occurring after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.
