How to use the thermal carafe of the CMM490 model?

To pour the coffee, press the lid opening push button downwards. For cleaning, turn the push button counterclockwise and lift the lid completely.

How much water can I put in the tank?

The tank has a maximum capacity of 1,250 ml. The minimum level is 125 ml. Do not exceed the MAX mark.

Can I use a glass carafe on the CMM490 model?

No, the glass carafe (CMM480) and the thermal carafe (CMM490) are not interchangeable. Use exclusively the carafe supplied with your model.

How to clean the Kenwood Scene CMM490 coffee maker?

Turn off, unplug and let cool. Hand wash the filter holder, permanent filter and thermal carafe (removable lid). Wipe the body with a damp cloth. Do not put parts in the dishwasher.

What to do if the drip-stop valve does not work?

Make sure the tank lid is properly closed. If it is not correctly engaged, the drip-stop valve may not activate, causing overflow at the filter holder.

How to descale the coffee maker?

Use a suitable descaling product and follow the manufacturer's instructions. After descaling, run at least two full tanks of clear water (without coffee) to rinse the machine.

Does the appliance turn off automatically?

No, the CMM490 model does not have auto-off. You must turn off and unplug manually after use. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot.

How much coffee should I use?

Use approximately one level measuring spoon (7g) per cup, according to taste. The supplied spoon corresponds to this measure.

What to do if the power cord is damaged?

For safety reasons, the cord must be replaced by Kenwood or an authorized repairer. Do not use the appliance with a damaged cord.

Can I use hot or sparkling water in the tank?

No, use only cold water. Hot or sparkling water can damage the appliance. Filtered water is recommended to reduce limescale.

• Read these instructions carefully and retain for future reference.
• Remove all packaging and any labels.
• Watch out for steam, never lift the tank lid during the brewing cycle.
• Never touch the hotplate or surrounding area.
• Always lift the lid using the tab at the front (4).
• Do not touch hot parts.
• Never let the cord hang down where a child could grab it.

Note: the glass carafe is only suitable for use with the CMM480 coffee maker model and the thermal carafe is only suitable for use with the CMM490 coffee maker model. The glass and thermal carafes are not interchangeable.

to make coffee

1 Lift the lid using the tab ④ at the front of the coffee maker.
2 Fill the tank with the desired amount of water. The water level must be between the 125mls and MAX mark. Do not overfill above the MAX level.

• Use cold water. We recommend using filtered water as it reduces limescale and prolongs the life of your coffee maker. Never use warm or fizzy water.
  3 Ensure the filter holder is positioned correctly.

4 Fit either the permanent filter supplied or a paper filter into the filter holder. Add the coffee using the spoon supplied (approximately 1 level spoon (7g) per cup to taste).
5 Close the lid and put the carafe on the hotplate/location plate ⑥.

Note: Ensure the lid is fully closed. If the lid is not closed down correctly the anti-drip valve will not operate causing the filter holder to overfill, resulting in water spillage from out of the holder area.

6 Plug in and switch on.
7 Don't remove the carafe until brewing has finished.

CMM490 Thermal carafe - to pour coffee from the carafe, push the lid release lever ⑨ down ① . To empty and clean the carafe, remove the lid by turning the lid release lever ⑨ anti clockwise ② and lift off.

8 When the carafe is empty, switch off and unplug the appliance.

CMM480 only

• Your coffee maker will keep the coffee warm and then switch off after approximately 40 minutes. The indicator light will go out when the keep warm stops. If you want to continue keeping the coffee warm then switch the coffee maker off then back on, the coffee will then keep warm for another 40 minutes.
• If you have not used the appliance for a while, run one full tank of water (without coffee) through to clean it out.

R efit the lid and turn the lid release lever 9 clockwise to lock.
