How to install the IREXT?

You can use the IREXT in two ways: either by connecting the IR LEDs directly to the distributor (application 1), or by using the separate IR eye (application 2). In both cases, place the distributor or eye within range of the remote control (≤ 6 m) and stick the LEDs onto the IR receivers of your devices. Plug in the power adapter. See the manual for detailed diagrams.

What is the maximum range of the IREXT?

The range is approximately ± 6 m under ideal conditions (without obstacles). The reception angle is ±15° in all directions.

What to do if the remote control does not respond?

First check that the power supply is connected and that the LEDs are correctly positioned on the IR receivers of the devices. Make sure that no interference (dimmers, lamps, direct sunlight) disturbs the signal. Try moving the distributor or IR eye. If the problem persists, test with another remote control.

Can I use the IREXT with any remote control?

Yes, the IREXT works with most standard infrared remote controls (frequency 30-60 kHz). Simply point the remote control at the distributor or IR eye.

How to clean the IREXT?

Use a lint-free cloth slightly damp (water). Avoid alcohols, solvents, or abrasive products that could damage the device.

Is the power adapter included?

Yes, the 12 VDC / 250 mA power adapter is included in the package. Use only this adapter to avoid any damage.

Can I use additional LEDs?

The IREXT comes with 3 IR LEDs. The connections are not designed to add more LEDs. If you need to cover more devices, consider using the IR eye for better flexibility.

Does the IREXT work with glass furniture?

Yes, the infrared signal passes through glass. However, avoid placing the distributor or eye behind tinted or reflective glass that could attenuate the signal.

What to do in case of interference?

Interference can be caused by dimmers, halogen lamps, direct sunlight, or other electronic devices. Try moving the distributor or IR eye, or move the interference source away from the system.

Where to place the infrared eye?

The IR eye should preferably be placed on a vertical surface, for example stuck next to the IR receiver of your TV, within range of the remote control. Make sure it is not obstructed and receives the signal directly.

The IREXT allows you to operate up to 3 of your A/V devices inside a cabinet without having to open the door. The infrared remote control bender enables you to extend the range and angle of your common remote control which is only effective at close range. The bender receives the IR signal from your remote control and retransmits it via an IR probe to any other device.

5. Installation/Operation

Application 1: Use with IR bender only

• Insert the plug of the IR probes [F] into the IR probes output connection [B] at the back of the IR bender [A].
• Install the IR bender flat on a horizontal surface within sight and reach of your remote control (± 6m in ideal circumstances).
• Lead the IR probes inside the cabinet and to the A/V equipment in such way that a LED can be stuck onto the IR eye of each A/V apparatus. Test the position of each LED first before sticking as this should be done carefully and precisely.
• Insert the plug of the PSU into the PSU input connection [D] at the back of the IR bender. Only use the supplied PSU. Connect the PSU to the mains.
• Use your remote control and point towards the IR bender within an angle of ± 15^ in all directions.

Application 2: Use with IR receiver extension

• Insert the plug of the IR probes [F] into the IR probes output connection [B] at the back of the IR bender [A].
• Insert the plug of the IR receiver extension [E] into the IR receiver extension input connection [C].
• Install the IR bender flat on a horizontal surface within sight and reach of your remote control (± 6m in ideal circumstances) or inside the cabinet.
• Stick the IR receiver extension preferably onto a vertical surface, next the IR eye of the TV set.
• Lead the IR probes inside the cabinet and to the A/V equipment in such way that a LED can be stuck onto the IR eye of each A/V apparatus. Test the position of each LED first before sticking as this should be done carefully and precisely.
• Insert the plug of the PSU into the PSU input connection [D] at the back of the IR bender. Only use the supplied PSU. Connect the PSU to the mains.
• Use your remote control and point towards the IR receiver extension within an angle of ± 15^ in all directions.

Important remark: In some cases, the receiver can suffer from interference and not pick up the signal from your remote control. Interference can be caused by devices in the direct vicinity such as dimmers and lamps, or by direct sunlight. If such is the case, reorient or relocate the IR receiver, or increase the distance between the IR receiver and the device causing the interference.

In order to ensure the quality, our products regularly go through an extra quality check, both by an internal quality department and by specialized external organisations. If, all precautionary measures notwithstanding, problems should occur, please make appeal to our warranty (see guarantee conditions).

General Warranty Conditions Concerning Consumer Products (for EU):

• All consumer products are subject to a 24-month warranty on production flaws and defective material as from the original date of purchase.
• Velleman® can decide to replace an article with an equivalent article, or to refund the retail value totally or partially when the complaint is valid and a free repair or replacement of the article is impossible, or if the expenses are out of proportion.

You will be delivered a replacing article or a refund at the value of 100% of the purchase price in case of a flaw occurred in the first year after the date of purchase and delivery, or a replacing article at 50% of the purchase price or a refund at the value of 50% of the retail value in case of a flaw occurred in the second year after the date of purchase and delivery.

- Not covered by warranty:

• all direct or indirect damage caused after delivery to the article (e.g. by oxidation, shocks, falls, dust, dirt, humidity...), and by the article, as well as its contents (e.g. data loss), compensation for loss of profits;

• Articles to be repaired must be delivered to your Velleman® dealer, solidly packed (preferably in the original packaging), and be completed with the original receipt of purchase and a clear flaw description.
• Hint: In order to save on cost and time, please reread the manual and check if the flaw is caused by obvious causes prior to presenting the article for repair. Note that returning a non-defective article can also involve handling costs.
• Repairs occurring after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.
• The above conditions are without prejudice to all commercial warranties.
