Frequently Asked Questions - ADVANCEDROTAK 670 BOSCH

How to adjust the cutting height on the ADVANCEDROTAK 670 mower?
The cutting height is adjusted centrally via a knob located on the housing. The available positions range from 25 mm to 70 mm in increments. See Figure D in the manual for more details.
How to charge the mower battery?
Use only the supplied charger (AL 3620 CV or AL 36V-20). Insert the battery into the charger and plug it into a mains socket. The green LED flashes during charging and stays on continuously when the battery is full. A full charge of a 4.0 Ah battery takes approximately 125 minutes.
What to do if the mower does not start?
First check that the battery is correctly inserted and charged. Make sure the disconnector is engaged. If the problem persists, consult the troubleshooting table in the manual: possible causes include a battery that is too hot/cold, grass that is too tall, or an internal defect. Contact Bosch after-sales service if necessary.
How to replace the mower blade?
Wear gardening gloves. Stop the mower, remove the battery and disconnect the disconnector. Tilt the mower on its side. Unscrew the blade screw (tightening torque 27 Nm) and remove the old blade. Mount the new blade in the correct direction (the fins must be directed towards the housing). Screw back firmly. See Figure J in the manual.
What is the battery runtime for a standard mowing?
Runtime depends on battery capacity and cutting conditions. With a 4.0 Ah battery, you can mow up to 500 m² of fine, dry grass. For a 2.0 Ah battery, expect about 250 m², and with a 6.0 Ah battery, up to 750 m². Mowing more frequently and at a higher cutting height can increase runtime.
Can I use the mower on sloping terrain?
Yes, but with caution. Always mow perpendicular to the slope, never up and down or down and up. Avoid very steep slopes. Be careful not to lose your balance, especially if the grass is wet. Do not mow in rainy weather.
How to clean the mower after use?
Stop the mower, remove the battery and disconnect the disconnector. Use a soft, dry brush to remove grass and dirt from the housing, blades and grass box. Never use a pressure washer or garden hose. Wear gloves when cleaning near the blades.
How to store the mower and battery in winter?
Clean the mower and remove the battery. Store the mower in a dry, frost-free place. The battery must be stored separately at a temperature between -20 °C and +50 °C (ideally 5 °C). Do not leave the battery in direct sunlight or in a car in summer.
What to do if the mower vibrates abnormally?
Stop the mower immediately and remove the battery. Check that the blade is not damaged or unbalanced. Retighten the blade screw to 27 Nm. If vibrations persist, the blade may be worn or bent: replace it. Contact after-sales service if necessary.
How to safely transport the battery?
Lithium-ion batteries are subject to dangerous goods regulations. For road transport, the user can transport them without special measures. For shipping by a third party, pack the battery to avoid short-circuits (cover the contacts) and follow the packaging instructions. Only transport batteries with an intact casing.

Starting Operation

For Your Safety

Warning! Switch off, remove the isolator switch and the battery before adjusting or cleaning. The same applies when the cable to the switch in the handle is damaged, cut or entangled. The blade continues to rotate for a few seconds after the machine is switched off. Caution: Do not touch the rotating blade.

Charging the Battery

The battery is equipped with temperature monitoring that allows charging only in the temperature range between 0°C and 35°C. In this manner, a high battery service life is achieved.

Note: The battery is supplied partially charged. To ensure full battery capacity, completely charge the battery in the battery charger before using for the first time.

The lithium-ion battery can be charged at any time without reducing its service life. Interrupting the charging procedure does not damage the battery.

The "Electronic Cell Protection (ECP)" protects the lithium-ion battery against deep discharging. When the battery is discharged, the machine is switched off by means of a protective circuit: The garden product no longer operates.

Do not continue to press the On/Off switch after an automatic shut-off of the machine. The battery can be damaged.

Observe the notes for disposal of the battery.

Inserting/Removing the Battery

Note: Using unsuitable batteries can lead to malfunctions or damage the machine.

Insert the charged battery. Ensure the battery is inserted correctly.

To remove the battery from the machine, press the battery unlocking button and pull the battery out.

Charging Procedure

The charging procedure starts as soon as the mains plug of the charger is plugged into a socket outlet and the battery is inserted onto the charger.

Due to the intelligent charging method, the charging condition of the battery is automatically detected and the battery is charged with the optimum charging current, depending on battery temperature and voltage.

This gives longer life to the battery and always leaves it fully charged when kept in the charger for storage.

Meaning of the indication elements on the charger (AL 3620 CV/AL 3640 CV/AL 36V-20)

Rapid-charging Procedure

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Rapid-charging Procedure - 1

The rapid-charging procedure is indicated by flashing of the green battery charge indicator.

Indication element of the battery: During the

charging procedure, the three green LEDs light up one after the other and briefly go out. The battery is fully charged when the three green LEDs light up continuously. The three LEDs go out again approx. 5 minutes after the battery has been fully charged.

Note: The rapid-charging procedure is only possible when the battery temperature is within the allowable charging temperature range, see section "Technical Data".

Battery charged

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Battery charged - 1

Continuous lighting of the green LED indicator indicates that the battery is fully charged.

Additionally, a signal tone sounds for approx.

2 seconds, which acoustically indicates that the battery is fully charged.

Afterwards, the battery can be removed for immediate use. When the battery is not inserted, continuous lighting of the LED indicator indicates that the mains plug is inserted in the socket outlet and that the battery charger is ready for operation.

Battery Temperature below 0°C or above 45°C

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Battery Temperature below 0°C or above 45°C - 1

Continuous lighting of the red LED indicator indicates that the temperature of the battery is not within the allowable charging temperature

range, see section "Technical Data". As soon as the allowable charging temperature range is reached, the battery charger automatically switches to rapid charging.

When the battery is not within the allowable temperature range, the red battery LED lights up when inserting the battery into the battery charger.

No Charging Procedure Possible

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - No Charging Procedure Possible - 1

If a different malfunction of the charging procedure is present, this will be indicated through flashing of the red LED indicator.

The charging procedure cannot be started and the battery cannot be charged (see section Troubleshooting).

Charging Advice

With continuous or several repetitive charging cycles without interruption, the charger can warm up. This is not meaningful and does not indicate a technical defect of the battery charger.

A significantly reduced working period after charging indicates that the battery is used and must be replaced.

Observe the notes for disposal.

Battery Cooling (Active Air Cooling)

The fan control integrated into the charger monitors the temperature of the inserted battery. When the battery temperature is above 30°C , a fan cools down the battery to the optimal charging temperature. The fan generates a ventilation sound when switched on.

If the fan is not running, the battery temperature is within the optimum charge-temperature range or the fan is defective. In this case, the charging time of the battery might be extended.

Working Advice

Battery charge-control indicator

The battery is equipped with a charge-control indicator, which indicates its charge condition. The charge-control indicator consists of 3 green LEDs.

Press the charge-control indicator button to actuate the charge-control indicator. After approx. 5 seconds, the charge-control indicator goes out automatically.

The charge condition can also be checked when the battery is removed.

LED IndicationBattery Capacity
Continuous lighting of 3 green LEDs≥ 2/3
Continuous lighting of 2 green LEDs≥ 1/3
Continuous lighting of 1 green LED≤ 1/3
Flashing of 1 green LEDReserve

When no LED lights up after pressing the button, then the battery is defective and must be replaced.

For safety reasons, the charge condition of the battery can only be checked when the garden product is at a standstill.

During the charging procedure, the three green LEDs light up one after the other and briefly go out. The battery is fully charged when the three green LEDs light up continuously. The three green LEDs go out again approx. 5 minutes after the battery has been fully charged.

Temperature Monitoring Indicator of the battery

The red LED of the temperature monitoring indicator signals that the battery or the electronics of the garden product (with battery inserted) are not within the optimum temperature range. When this occurs, the garden product will not operate or not at full capacity.

Temperature Monitoring of the Battery

The red LED flashes when pressing the button or the On/Off switch (with battery inserted): The battery is outside of the permitted operating temperature range.

The battery switches off at a temperature above 70°C until the allowable operating-temperature range is reached again.

Temperature Monitoring of the Garden Product's Electronics

The red LED lights up continuously when pressing the On/Off switch: The temperature of the garden product's electronics is below 5°C or above 75°C.

At a temperature above 90°C, the electronics of the garden product switch off until the temperature is within the allowable operating-temperature range again.

Cutting Capacity (Battery Operating Duration)

The cutting capacity (battery operating duration) depends on lawn properties, such as grass density, moisture content, grass length and height of cut.

Switching the machine on and off frequently during cutting will also reduce the cutting capacity (battery operating duration).

To improve the cutting capacity (battery operating duration), it is recommended to cut more frequently, increase the cutting height and walk at an appropriate pace.

The example below shows the connection between cutting height and cutting capacity with regard to three batteries.

Cutting Conditions

Always check the blades and blade bolts for wear or damage before use. To avoid imbalance, always replace all worn or damaged blades and blade bolts at the same time. Only work in daylight or with good artificial lighting. Do not work with the lawn mower in bad weather, especially when a thunderstorm is approaching. As far as possible, do not use the lawn mower on wet grass. Always walk calmly, never run. Never use the lawn mower with damaged or missing safety devices or covers, e.g., without the deflector and/or grass catcher. For personal protection, we recommend always using hearing protection. Do not use the device if you are tired or ill, or if you are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication. Working on slopes can be dangerous:

  • Do not mow on particularly steep slopes.
  • On slopes and wet grass

Always ensure a firm footing.

  • On slopes, always work across the slope, never up or down. Be especially careful when changing direction on slopes.

Be extremely careful when pulling the mower towards you or pushing it behind you. Always push the lawn mower forward, never pull it towards you. The mower must be completely stopped before you tilt it for transport, cross areas not covered with grass, or move it to or from the area where you intend to mow. Do not tilt the lawn mower when starting the engine or switching it on. Switch on the lawn mower as described in the operating instructions, and make sure that your feet are at a sufficient distance from the rotating blades. Do not put your hands or feet near or under rotating parts.

When working with the lawn mower, keep a safe distance from the discharge opening. Never lift or carry the lawn mower while the engine is running. Make sure that the lawn mower stands on all four wheels on the ground when you switch it on. Lift the lawn mower only by the carrying handle for transport. Handle the carrying handle with care. Do not make any unauthorized modifications to the device. Improper modifications can affect the safety of the device and lead to strong vibrations and noise.

Collecting leaves

The leaf collection blade has a shape that allows collecting autumn leaves on the lawn. For optimal results, observe the following:

  • Collect leaves only at the maximum mowing height.
  • Collect leaves only on your own property. Before collecting leaves, inspect the work area and do not allow people, pets, glass objects, or vehicles to be in the immediate vicinity.

Switch off the power switch

  • Before using the garden tool, inspect it without fail. Before use, check for damage. Before performing maintenance or repair work on the garden tool, ensure it is switched off.
  • After contact with hard objects, immediately check the garden tool for damage and replace the blade if necessary.
  • If the garden tool starts to vibrate unusually, check it immediately.

Maintenance

Always wear garden gloves when handling or working near sharp blades. Check all nuts, bolts, and screws to ensure they are tight and the product is in safe working condition. Regularly check the condition and wear of the grass catcher. If parts are worn or damaged, replace them with original Bosch spare parts.

Before storage, check that the product is clean and free of organic residues. If necessary, clean it with a dry cloth.

Safety instructions and instructions for optimal handling of the battery

Make sure the garden tool is switched off and the battery is removed before inserting the battery. Inserting the battery into a switched-on garden tool can lead to accidents. Use only the battery specified for this garden tool from Bosch. Using other batteries may result in injury and fire hazard.

Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuiting.

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Safety instructions and instructions for optimal handling of the battery - 1

Protect the battery from high temperatures (e.g., from intense sunlight), fire, and moisture. This creates a risk of explosion.

Keep the battery away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, and other small metal objects that could cause bridging of contacts. Short-circuiting between battery contacts can lead to burns or fire. If the battery is damaged or used improperly, liquid may leak. Avoid contact with the liquid; if contact occurs, rinse with water and seek medical help if symptoms persist. Leaking battery fluid can cause irritation of the respiratory tract. Use the battery only in the manufacturer's specified products. Only then is the battery protected against dangerous overload. Protect the battery from sharp objects such as nails or screwdrivers, as well as external force; this can damage the battery and lead to internal short-circuiting, fire, explosion, or leakage of the battery. Do not short-circuit the battery. This creates a risk of explosion. Protect the battery from moisture and water.

Store the power tool and battery only at temperatures between -20°C and 50°C. For example, do not leave the power tool in a car in summer. From time to time, clean the ventilation slots of the battery with a soft, dry brush.

Safety instructions for chargers

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Safety instructions for chargers - 1

Read all safety instructions and instructions. Failure to follow the instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.

Keep all safety instructions and instructions for future use.

Use the charger only if you are able to fully assess its functions and operate it or receive appropriate instructions.

Never allow children, persons with limited physical, sensory or mental capabilities or insufficient experience and knowledge, or persons unfamiliar with these instructions to use the charger. National regulations may restrict the permissible age of the operator. Do not leave children unattended. They must not play with the charger. Charge only Bosch Li-ion rechargeable batteries with a capacity of 2.0 Ah (from 10 cells). The battery voltage must match the charging voltage of the charger. Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries. Otherwise there is a risk of fire and explosion.

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Safety instructions for chargers - 2

Protect the charger from rain and moisture. Water entering the charger increases the risk of electric shock.

Keep the charger clean. Dirt can lead to the risk of electric shock. Before each use, check the charger, cable and plug. Do not use the charger if damage is detected. Do not open the charger yourself; it should only be repaired by qualified personnel and only with original spare parts. Damaged chargers, cables and plugs increase the risk of electric shock. Do not use the charger on easily flammable surfaces (e.g., paper, fabric, etc.) or in a fire-hazardous environment. Due to the heating of the charger during charging, there is a risk of fire.

Do not cover the ventilation slots of the charger. Otherwise, the charger may overheat and fail. To increase electrical safety, it is recommended to use a residual current device with a tripping current of 30 mA. Before work, always check the residual current device.

Symbols

The following symbols will help you read and understand the operating instructions. Remember the symbols and their meaning. Correct interpretation of the symbols will help you work better and safer with the product.

After automatic shutdown of the power tool, do not press the switch again. The battery may be damaged.

Observe the instructions for disposal of the battery.

Inserting/removing the battery

Warning: Use of incompatible batteries may result in malfunction or damage to the instrument.

Insert the charged battery. Make sure the battery is inserted correctly.

To remove the battery from the instrument, press the battery release button and pull out the battery.

Charging procedure

The charging procedure starts immediately after the device is plugged into a wall outlet, following the insertion of the battery into the charging device.

Thanks to the intelligent charging procedure, the charging device automatically detects the charge level

of the battery and selects the optimal charging current depending on the temperature and charge state of the battery.

This extends the battery life. When stored in the charging device, the battery is therefore always fully charged.

Meaning of the indicator elements on the charging device (AL 3620 CV/AL 3640 CV/AL 36V-20)

Rapid charging mode

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Rapid charging mode - 1

Rapid charging is indicated by the green battery charge indicator flashing.

Battery indicator elements: During the charging process, the green LEDs light up one after the other and then go out. The battery is fully charged when the 3 green LEDs are lit. After about 5 minutes after the end of charging, the green LEDs go out.

Note: Rapid charging is only possible if the battery temperature is within the permissible range, see section "Technical Data".

Battery charged

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Battery charged - 1

Continuous illumination of the green LED indicates that the battery is fully charged.

Battery charging instructions

During intermittent or frequently repeated charging, the charging device may heat up. This is, however, harmless and does not indicate a technical defect in the charging device.

A significant reduction in the operating time of the battery pack after charging indicates that the battery pack has reached the end of its service life and must be replaced.

Follow the usage instructions.

Battery cooling (Active Air Cooling)

The integrated charging device with fan control system monitors the temperature of the battery pack. If the battery temperature exceeds 30°C, the fan cools it to the optimal operating temperature. The activated fan creates noise during operation.

If the fan does not operate, it means that the battery pack temperature is within the optimal range or the fan is defective. In any case, the charging time of the battery increases.

Operating instructions

Battery charge indicator

The battery is equipped with a charge indicator that shows its charge level. The charge indicator consists of green LEDs.

To activate the charge indicator, press the charge indicator button. After a few seconds, the charge indicator turns off automatically.

The charge level can also be checked on the removed battery.

Charging

The charging process begins as soon as the mains plug of the charging device is plugged into the socket and the battery is inserted into the charging device.

The intelligent charging system automatically determines the optimal charging current depending on the temperature and voltage of the battery.

It preserves the battery, and when stored in the charger, it will always be fully charged.

Functions of indicators (AL 3620 CV/AL 3640 CV/ AL 36V-20)

Charging

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Charging - 1

The charging process is indicated by the green indicator of the battery charge.

Indicator on the battery: During charging, the three green LEDs light up one after another. The battery is fully charged when the three green LEDs light up continuously. After 5 minutes, once the battery is fully charged, the three green LEDs will turn off again.

Note: Charging is only possible if the battery temperature is within the permissible temperature range for charging, see section "Technical data".

Battery charged

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Battery charged - 1

Continuous green

The LED indicator indicates that the battery is fully

charged.

A short acoustic signal sounds for about 2 seconds, indicating the full charge of the battery.

After charging, the battery can be removed and used.

If the battery is not inserted,

the continuous green LED indicator shows that the device is plugged into the socket and ready for operation.

Temperatures of the battery below 0°C or above 45°C

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Temperatures of the battery below 0°C or above 45°C - 1

The red indicator light of the charger indicates that the temperature of the battery

is outside the permissible temperature range. See the section "Technical Data". After the temperature reaches the permissible temperature range, the charger automatically switches to fast charging.

If the battery temperature is outside the permissible charging range, when the battery is inserted, the charging process will be interrupted and the red indicator light will blink.

Charging is not possible

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Charging is not possible - 1

In case of other faults, the charging process is indicated by the red indicator light.

The charging process may be impossible due to a battery fault (see Troubleshooting).

Charging instructions

If the charger is repeatedly connected and disconnected several times in a row, the charger may heat up. However, this is not

dangerous and does not indicate a technical fault of the charging device.

A significantly shortened operating time after charging indicates that the battery has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced.

Follow the instructions for disposal.

Battery cooling (Active Air Cooling)

The integrated fan control system in the charger monitors the temperature of the inserted battery. If the battery temperature exceeds 30°C, the battery is cooled by the fan to the optimal charging temperature. The fan operation creates noise during operation.

If the fan does not run, the battery temperature is within the optimal range or the fan is defective. In this case, the charging time of the battery is increased.

Battery charge indicator

The battery is equipped with a charge status indicator that shows the degree of charge of the battery. The battery status indicator consists of green LEDs.

Press the battery status indicator button to activate the battery status indicator. The battery charge indicator lights up. After 5 seconds, the battery charge indicator goes out automatically.

The charge level can also be checked when the battery is removed.

Collecting grass

The hedge trimmer collects leaves into a collection bag, allowing you to collect all the leaves from the first row. To get the best result from this function, the following rules must be followed:

  • Collect leaves only when the trimmer is set to the maximum height level.
  • Collect leaves only from the first row. Before starting to collect, check the working area and keep a safe distance from children, pets, objects, and vehicles.

Disconnect the electrical connection

  • When moving away from the hedge trimmer. Before cleaning or maintaining the machine.
  • When checking, cleaning, or performing technical maintenance on the hedge trimmer.
  • After foreign objects fall into the device. Immediately check the hedge trimmer for damage and, if necessary, send it for repair.
  • If the hedge trimmer starts to vibrate abnormally (perform an immediate check).

Technical maintenance

When you need to perform work near the blades, work with protective gloves. To ensure safe working condition of the hedge trimmer, make sure all nuts, bolts, and screws are tightened. Periodically check that the blade for wear is not worn out and that the blade is not damaged. Check the hedge trimmer and replace worn or damaged parts for greater safety. Use only blades specifically designed for the hedge trimmer. Make sure the spare parts you supply are original. Before storing, make sure the hedge trimmer is clean and free of debris. If necessary, clean it with a dry soft brush.

Instructions for optimal operation with the battery

Before inserting the battery, make sure the hedge trimmer is switched off. Inserting the battery into

a hedge trimmer that is switched on can lead to accidents.

Remove the battery from the device before performing any maintenance or cleaning. Improper use of the battery may cause a fire or explosion. Do not disassemble the battery. There is a risk of short circuit.

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - Instructions for optimal operation with the battery - 1

Keep the battery away from heat sources, e.g., prolonged exposure to sunlight, fire, water, and moisture. There is a risk of explosion.

Do not store the battery together with metal objects such as paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws, or other small metal objects that can cause a short circuit between the contacts. A short circuit between the contacts can cause burns or fire. If the battery is damaged or incorrectly used, liquid may leak from the battery. Avoid contact with the liquid; if contact occurs, rinse with water and seek medical attention. The liquid can cause skin irritation or burns. Use the battery only with the specified charger. Do not use the battery for any other purpose. The battery can be damaged by sharp objects, e.g., nails or screwdrivers, or by strong impacts. This can cause an internal short circuit and the battery may overheat, ignite, explode, or leak. Be careful not to cause a short circuit between the terminals of the battery. There is a risk of explosion. Keep the battery away from moisture and water. Store the power tool only in a temperature range from 20°C to 50°C. For example, do not leave the power tool in a car during summer. Keep the ventilation slots of the battery clean and dry.

Assembly and use

If the battery temperature is not within the allowed range, when inserting the battery into the appliance, the red light will flash.

It is not possible to charge

BOSCH ADVANCEDROTAK 670 - It is not possible to charge - 1

If there is no error during charging, the battery is fully charged.

The battery cannot be charged and

the battery cannot be charged (see "Troubleshooting").

Charging tips

If you continuously or repeatedly charge without interruption, the battery may overheat. This is harmless, but it does not mean that there is a technical defect in the charger.

A shortened operating time after charging indicates that the battery is worn out and must be replaced.

Pay attention to the safety warnings.

Battery cooling (Active Air Cooling)

The built-in fan in the charger controls the temperature of the inserted battery. If

the battery temperature is above 30°C, the fan will cool the battery until it reaches the ambient temperature. The activated fan creates a ventilation sound.

If the fan does not work, the battery temperature is at the optimal charging temperature limit or the fan is defective. In this case, the charging time of the battery is extended.

Operating tips

Battery charge indicator

The battery is equipped with an indicator that shows the charge level of the battery. The charge indicator consists of three green LEDs.

Press the charge level button to activate the charge level display of the battery. After about 5 seconds, the indicator turns off automatically.

The tool can be checked and the battery replaced.

If after switching on the LED indicator does not light up, the battery is defective and must be replaced.

For safety reasons, the battery voltage can only be checked when the tool is plugged in.

During the charging process, the three green LED lights flash alternately and go out briefly. The battery is fully charged when the three green LED lights stay on constantly. About 5 minutes after the battery is fully charged, the three green LED lights go out again.

Battery indicator during temperature monitoring

The red LED lights up when the battery or the tool (with battery inserted) is not

at optimal temperature. In this case, the tool does not work or does not work at full capacity.

Battery temperature indicator

If when pressing the on/off switch the red LED lights up (when the battery is inserted): the battery is outside the operating temperature range.

At temperatures above 70°C, the battery switches off until the optimal temperature is reached again.

Temperature control of the tool electronics

If when pressing the on/off switch the red LED lights up constantly: the temperature of the electronics and the tool is below 0°C or above 75°C.

At temperatures above 90°C, the tool electronics switch off until the optimal temperature is restored.

Mowing area (battery operation)

The mowing area (battery operation) depends on the conditions of the lawn, the density, the moisture and the height of the grass, as well as on the height of the cut.

The battery and the charger heat up during charging. This is normal.

To achieve optimal charging (battery charging), charge the battery and the charger at a reasonable temperature.

The following examples show the relationship between the charging conditions and the battery charging.
