Do not operate machine before having read the operating instructions, understood all the notes and assembly the machine as described here. Keep the instructions in a safe place for future use.

Carefully read operator’s manual before handling the machine. Observe instructions and safety rules when operating. Do not expose to rain or moistness.

Shut off engine and remove power cord before performing cleaning, maintenance or repair work.

When connecting cable is damaged or cut through immediately pull out the power plug.

ƒ The hedge shears shall only be assembled, used and maintained by persons who are familiar with it and instructed about the risks. Repair works may only be carried out by us or by a customer service agent nominated by us. ƒ The machine may not be used in a potentially explosive environment or be exposed to the rain. ƒ Metallic parts (wires etc.) have unconditionally to be removed from the material to be cut.

User information. This information helps you to use all the functions optimally.

Even if used properly, residual risks can exist even if the relevant safety regulations are complied with due to the design determined by the intended purpose. Residual risks can be minimised if the “Safety information” and the “Intended usage” as well as the whole of the operating instructions are observed. Observing these instructions, and taking proper care, will reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the equipment.

Operating times Before initiating the device please observe the provisions pertaining to corresponding laws (regional provisions) for the noise control.

Safe working Before commissioning this product, read and keep to the following advice. Also observe the safety provisions applicable in the respective country, in order to protect yourself and others from possible injury.

Normal intended use ƒ The hedge shears is only intended for the private use in the house and hobby garden. ƒ As hedge shears for the private house and hobby garden are considered such devices that are not applied in public facilities, parks, and sports facilities as well as in the agriculture and silviculture. ƒ The device shall not be used for cutting grass, grass borders or in order to chop for composting. Risk of injuries existing! ƒ The intended usage also includes compliance with the operating, servicing and repair conditions prescribed by the manufacturer and following the safety instructions included in the instructions. ƒ The relevant accident prevention regulations for the operation as well as the other generally acknowledged occupational medicine and safety rules must be complied with. ƒ Any other use is deemed not to be use as prescribed. The manufacturer is not liable for any type of damage resulting from this: the user bears the sole risk. ƒ Arbitrary modifications on the hedge shears exclude a liability of the manufacturer for damages of all kinds resulting from it.

L L Pass the safety instructions on to all persons who work with the machine. Keep these safety instructions in a safe place.

ƒ Make yourself familiar with the equipment before using it, by reading and understanding the operating instructions. ƒ Do not use the machine for unsuitable purposes (see 'Normal intended use'). ƒ Avoid abnormal posture. Provide a safe standing position and keep at any time the balance. ƒ Be observant. Attend to what you do. Start working with rationality. Do not use the device when you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medicaments. One moment of carelessness when using the device can result in serious injuries. ƒ Wear suitable work clothes: − do not wear loose-fitting clothes or jewellery; they can catch in moving parts. − Gloves and slip-proof shoes − wear a hair-net if your hair is long 14

ƒ Wear protective clothing: − safety goggles ƒ Keep your workplace in an orderly condition! Untidiness can result in accidents. ƒ Take into consideration environmental influences: − Do not expose the hedge shears to the rain. − Do not use the hedge shears in humid or wet environment. − Do only work with sufficient visibility conditions − Do not use the hedge shears near inflammable liquids or gases. ƒ Never leave the hedge shears unattended. ƒ Persons under 18 are not allowed to operate the device. ƒ Keep other persons away. Do not allow other persons, especially children, to touch the tool or cable. Keep them away from your working area. ƒ Do not overload the machine! You work better and safer in the given performance range. ƒ Only operate the machine with complete and correctly attached safety equipment and do not alter anything on the machine that could impair the safety. ƒ Do not use any knives which do not comply with the indicated characteristics of this instruction manual.

Electrical safety ƒ Design of the connection cable according to IEC 60245 (H 07 RN-F) with a core cross-profile section of at least − 1.5 mm2 for cable lengths up to 25m − 2.5 mm2 for cable lengths over 25m ƒ Protect yourself against an electric shock. Avoid touching earthed parts with your body. ƒ Do not use the cable for purposes for which it is not meant. Protect the cable against heat, oil and sharp edges. Do not use the cable to pull the plug from the socket. ƒ Never carry the device at the connecting cable. ƒ Check regularly the cable of the hedge shears and get possible damages repaired by an accepted specialist. ƒ When taking the connecting line take care that it does not disturb, is not squeezed, bended and the connection assembly does not get wet. ƒ Regularly check the extension cables and replace them if they are damaged. ƒ Do not use any defective connection cables. ƒ When working outdoors, only use extension cables especially approved and appropriately labelled for outdoor use. ƒ Do not set up any provisional electrical connections. ƒ Never bypass protective devices or deactivate them. ƒ Connect the device via earth leakage circuit breaker (30 mA).

The use of other tools and other accessories can signify a risk of injury for you Switch the machine off and remove the mains plug from the socket when − carrying out repair works − carrying out servicing and repair works, removal of faults (including blocking of knives) − Transport and storage − Leaving of hedge trimmer (even during short interruptions) Maintain your hedge trimmer with care: − Keep the tools sharp and clean to be able to work better and more safely − Keep handles dry and free of oils and grease. − Follow the servicing instructions Check the machine for possible damage: − Before continuing to use the machine, the protective devices must be inspected to ensure that they work perfectly and with their intended function − Check whether the movable parts function perfectly and do not stick or whether the parts are damaged, All parts must be correctly installed and fulfil all conditions to ensure perfect operation of the hedge trimmer − Damaged guards and parts must be properly repaired or exchanged by a recognized, specialist workshop; insofar as nothing else is stated in the instructions for use. − Damaged or illegible safety warning labels should be replaced immediately. Do not allow any tool key to be plugged in! Before switching on, check always that wrenches and adjusting tools are removed. Store the unused machine in a dry locked place away from the reach of children.

The electrical connection or repairs to electrical parts of the machine must be carried out by a certified electrician or one of our customer service points. Local regulations – especially regarding protective measures – must be observed. Repairs to other parts of the machine must be carried out by the manufacturer or one of his customer service points. Use only original spare parts, accessories and special accessory parts. Accidents can arise for the user through the use of other spare parts. The manufacturer is not liable for any damage or injury resulting from such action.

Commissioning Mains connection Compare the voltage given on the machine model plate e.g. 230 V with the mains voltage and connect the hedge trimmer to the relevant and properly earthed plug Alternating current motor:

L Use a shockproof plug, mains voltage 230 V with residual

current circuit breaker and 10 A inert fuses. ƒ Use connection cable or extension cable respectively with a cross section of at least 1,5 mm².

Mounting of the extension cable In order to prevent an unintended loosening of the connection assembly put the extension cable as noose through the opening on the rear handhold and put it over the cable mounting. Page 5, fig. D. 15

ƒ Remove unconditionally any foreign objects out of the hedge (e.g. wires) as these can damage the knives of the hedge trimmer.

Switch on Do not use any device where the switch can not be switched on and off. Damaged switches must be repaired or replaced immediately by the customer service.

Ensure that you always comply with the safety instructions given on p. 14 ff.

The hedge shears has a two-hand protective shut-down which prevents an unintended switching on.

Maintenance and Care

Push the circuit closer/breaker on the rear handhold (6) and operate at the same time with the other hand the switch button on the front handhold (3), page 3, fig. A.

Remove the plug from the power socket before starting any maintenance or cleaning work. For maintaining and cleaning, removed security devices must unconditionally be mounted properly and proved again.

Switching off For switching off the device release the circuit closer/breaker or the switch button.

Use only original parts. Other parts can result in unexpected damages and injuries.

Adjustments on the hedge trimmer

The handhold can be set to 5 working positions (45° raster)

Clean and oil all moving parts regularly.

ƒ Clean or suck off respectively the ventilation slots.

1. During the setting the circuit closer/breaker on the rear handhold (6) can not be operated. 2. Hold the hedge shear on the front handhold (3), page 4, fig. B. 3. Push the switch (5) backwards. 4. The rear handhold (6) can be turned into the desired position. 5. Release the switch (5) and make sure that it engages. The handhold is fixed.

L Never clean the knives with water Î Risk of corrosion! Never use any grease! Use environmentally friendly oil.

Storage Remove the mains plug from the socket.

Working instructions

Store unused equipment in a dry, locked place out of the reach of children. To extend the service life of the hedge trimmer and guarantee smooth operation, before storing for a longer period − thoroughly clean the hedge trimmer − treat all movable parts with an environmentally friendly oil

Before commencing work, ensure the following: ƒ Workplace tidied? ƒ You may not start to operate the machine until you have read these operating instructions, observed all the instructions given and installed the machine as described! ƒ Scare animals off the hedge before starting to cut in order to prevent them from being injured.

L Never use any grease! Push the knife protection on the knife.

Working with the hedge trimmer, page 5, fig. D - F Hold the hedge trimmer with both hands on a safe distance from the body. ƒ The extension cable must be kept behind the hedge trimmer when cutting so that it can not be caught by the knives, fig. D. ƒ Due to its double sided knives the hedge trimmer can be guided forward and backward or by oscillating movements from one to another side, fig. E ƒ At first cut the sides of the hedge and then the upper edge. ƒ Cut the hedge from the bottom up. ƒ Cut the hedge in trapezium shape, fig. C. ƒ Stretch a guide over the complete length of the hedge when you want to shorten the upper edge of the hedge evenly. 16

Guarantee We grant a guarantee of two years, commencing with the day of delivery from the dealer's store, for material and manufacturing faults. Warranty claims, even during the warranty period, will not be accepted for damages due to incorrect handling or inadequate packaging during return of the devices or to a non-observance of the operating instructions. Faulty parts must be sent to our works, postage or freight free. We reserve the right to decide upon free spare part delivery. Guarantee work will be completed by us or an authorised servicing agency. Guarantee damage can only be remedied by another firm with our explicit approval. The guarantee does not include the normal wear of the knives. Guarantee is also granted if original spare parts are used. Subject to changes in the interest of technical progress.
