Frequently Asked Questions - FT5318 VOX

How do I preheat the deep fryer?
Close the lid, plug in the unit, and set the temperature dial to your desired temperature. The ready indicator light will turn on. Wait until it cycles off to indicate the oil has reached the set temperature.
What type of oil should I use?
Use blended vegetable oil, pure corn oil, or canola (rapeseed) oil. Do not use olive oil, margarine, lard, or drippings. For solid fat, melt it first in a separate pan before adding.
Can I put the deep fryer in the dishwasher?
No, never put the main unit in the dishwasher. Only the detachable lid and frying basket can be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher.
How do I clean the deep fryer?
Ensure the fryer is unplugged and cooled for about 4 hours. Remove the lid and basket. Wash them in hot soapy water or in the dishwasher (top rack). Wipe the inside and outside of the housing with a damp cloth. Dry thoroughly before reassembling.
What is the maximum oil level?
The oil level must be between the 'MIN' and 'MAX' lines inside the oil reservoir. Do not exceed the 'MAX' line to avoid overflow.
Can I fry frozen food?
Yes, but ensure any ice crystals are removed and pat the food dry. Fill the basket no more than 1/4 full for frozen foods to prevent overflowing. Lower the basket slowly into the hot oil.
Why does the ready indicator light cycle on and off?
The ready light cycles during heating as the thermostat maintains the temperature. It will turn on when heating and off when the set temperature is reached. This is normal.
How should I store cooking oil for reuse?
After use, let the oil cool completely (about 4 hours). Filter it through a paper filter or wire strainer into a storage container. Store in a cool, dark place. Do not mix different oils or old with new. Replace oil if it foams, darkens, smells rancid, or becomes syrupy.
What should I do if the deep fryer does not turn on?
First, check that the plug is securely inserted into a working outlet. Check your fuse box or circuit breaker. If it still does not work, contact Customer Service.
Can I use solid vegetable shortening in this fryer?
It is not recommended to put solid shortening directly into the oil reservoir. If using, melt it first in a separate pan and pour it in carefully. Heat slowly at the lowest setting with the lid closed to prevent splattering.
