Frequently Asked Questions - EL-2901RH SHARP

How to replace the paper roll?
Carefully cut the beginning of the roll if it is torn. Insert the end into the opening, turn on the calculator and press to feed the paper. Lift the metal support and insert the roll.
How to replace the ink roller?
Turn the switch to OFF, remove the printer cover. Grasp the ink roller from the top, pull it towards you and upwards. Install the new roller (type EA-772R) in place, then replace the cover.
What to do if the print is faint?
First check the position of the ink roller. If necessary, replace it with a new roller (type EA-772R). If the print is still faint, clean the print wheel with a small brush (toothbrush) while pressing after removing the roller.
What do the symbols on the display mean?
The symbols are: M (active memory), - (negative number), GT (grand total in memory), E (error or overflow). Not all are displayed simultaneously.
How to set the tax rate?
Set the grand total/rate setting selector to RATE SET. Enter the rate (up to 4 digits, decimal point does not count) then press TAX+. Only one rate can be stored.
How to calculate cost, sell, or margin?
Use the COST (cost price), SELL (selling price), and MGN (margin) keys. Enter the known value, then press the corresponding key to calculate the unknown. For example, for selling price with a cost of 350 and a margin of 30%: 350 COST 30 MGN then SELL.
What to do when 'E' (error) is displayed?
The error may be due to overflow (more than 12 digits) or division by zero. Press CE to clear. If '0·E' appears, press CE once. If the error persists after electromagnetic interference, press ON/CE and restart.
The calculator does not turn on, what to do?
Check that the power cord is properly plugged in and that the mains voltage is correct (220-230 V). If the calculator does not respond, unplug it for 5 seconds then plug back in. If the problem persists, contact an authorized SHARP service center.
How to use the print and item count mode?
Set the selector to P•IC. During additions, each press of + adds one to the item counter; subtractions (-) subtract one. The count is printed with the result. The counter resets by pressing * or CE. Maximum capacity: ±999.
What are the usage precautions?
Do not expose the calculator to moisture, dust, or large temperature variations. Clean with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use solvents. Do not wrap the cord around the calculator. In case of malfunction, unplug and contact an authorized service center.

How to perform a simple subtraction with the SHARP EL-2901RH?
Frequently Asked Questions - 05/23/2026
Response Notice-Facile

To perform a simple subtraction on your SHARP EL-2901RH calculator, follow these steps:

  • Make sure the calculator is turned on by setting the switch at the bottom left to P (print mode)
  • Press CE (Clear Entry) to reset the display and clear the last operation
  • Enter the first number (the number you want to subtract from)
  • Press the - (minus) key, located to the right of the numeric keys
  • Enter the number to subtract (the second number)
  • Press = to get the result, which will be displayed and printed automatically

Concrete example: To calculate 50 - 12, do: 50 → (press -) → 12 → (press =) → Result: 38

Addition mode (decimal switch in position A): If you set the decimal switch to A, the decimal point is automatically placed on the 2nd digit from the right. This allows for subtractions of amounts without having to enter the decimal point manually, which is very useful for money operations (example: 50.00 - 12.00 to calculate directly without entering the point).

Tip in case of error: If you make a mistake entering a digit before pressing the subtraction key, press CE to cancel the entry and start the operation again. If the error occurs after the first number, you can also press C to completely clear and start from zero.

Printing the result: When the switch is in P mode (printing), each operation is automatically printed on the 57-58 mm wide paper roll. The result of your subtraction will be printed with the asterisk symbol to indicate the final total. The mechanical printer displays about 2.1 lines per second.

INK ROLLER REPLACEMENT

If printing is blurry even when the ink roller is in the proper position, replace the roller.

Ink roller: Type EA-772R

WARNING

APPLYING INK TO WORN INK ROLLER OR USE OF UNAPPROVED INK ROLLER MAY CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE TO PRINTER.

1) Set the power switch to OFF. 2) Remove the printer cover. (Fig. 1) 3) Hold the top of the ink roller and remove the roller by pulling it toward you and then upward. (Fig. 2) 4) Install the new ink roller in the correct position. Make sure that the roller is securely in place. (Fig. 3) 5) Put back the printer cover.

Cleaning the printing mechanism If the print becomes dull after long time usage, clean the printing wheel according to the following procedures:

1) Remove the printer cover and the ink roller. 2) Install the paper roll and feed it until it comes out of the front of the printing mechanism. 3) Put a small brush (like a tooth brush) lightly to

the printing wheel and clean it by pressing ↗. 4) Put back the ink roller and the printer cover.

Note: • Do not rotate the printing mechanism manually, this may damage the printer.

PAPER ROLL REPLACEMENT

Never insert paper roll if torn. Doing so will cause paper to jam.

Always cut leading edge with scissors first.

1) Insert the leading edge of the paper roll into the opening. (Fig. 1) 2) Turn the power on and feed the paper by pressing . (Fig. 2) 3) Lift the attached metal paper holder up and insert the paper roll to the paper holder. (Fig. 3)

ERRORS

There are several situations which will cause an overflow or an error condition. When this occurs, "E" will be displayed. The contents of the memory at the time of the error are retained.

If an “0·E” is displayed at the time of the error, “— — — — — — ” will be printed in red and %CE must be used to clear the calculator.

Also, in rare cases, printing may stop midway and the indication “E” appear on the display. This is not a malfunction but is caused when the calculator is exposed to strong electromagnetic noise or static electricity from an external source. Should this occur, press the C/CE key and then repeat the calculation from the beginning.

Error conditions:

  1. When the integer portion of an answer exceeds 12 digits.
  2. When the integer portion of the contents of the memory exceeds 12 digits.

(Ex. *M 9999999999999 M+ 1 M+)

  1. When any number is divided by zero.
