ADDITIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The band saw is only designed for cutting pipes and sections made of metal. Any other use is forbidden. Do not use the band saw for cutting wood, including firewood and construction timber, engineered wood products, or any materials which contain harmful substances, e.g. asbestos. Do not cut ceramic materials, e.g. concrete or bricks.

The band saw only cuts in a straight line. Do not cut materials larger than the cutting range.

Wear personal protective equipment at work, including hearing protection, safety goggles or glasses, protective clothing with long sleeves and legs, protective gloves and footwear with anti-slip soles.

When cutting dust-generating materials, wear respiratory protection, e.g. dust half-masks.

Before starting to cut, make sure that the saw blade has been correctly mounted and rotates in the correct direction.

Each time before starting any cutting operation, check the saw blade for damage. If any damage is found, replace the saw blade with an undamaged one. Typical damage to the saw blade includes cracks, bends and broken teeth.

The saw blade must always be sharpened well.

Always hold the band saw handles with both hands during operation. Holding the band saw way can lead to a loss of control over it. A loss of control of the band saw can lead to serious injury.

Move the saw blade straight and do not tilt the saw blade sideways while cutting; otherwise the saw blade can become stuck or break. If the saw blade is stuck in the cut, immediately turn off the band saw by releasing the power switch, and release the saw blade from the cut. Do not start cutting until the saw blade is completely clear from the cut. Otherwise, the tool may kick back towards the operator which can cause serious injuries. The most common causes of the saw blade becoming stuck in the cut are: tilting the saw blade sideways during cutting, changes in the structure of the material being cut, e.g. internal voids, and overloading of the band saw by pressing it down into the material with excessive force.

When you want to resume cutting, let the saw blade reach the full set speed first before introducing it back into the cut.

When cutting materials which may contain concealed live wires, hold the band saw by its insulated handles. Cutting a live wire can result in electric shock and serious injury or death.

The band saw reaches a high temperature when cutting. Be extremely careful when working and directly afterwards. Avoid contact with hot saw blade: serious injury hazard.

Remove the cutting swarf when the saw blade has stopped completely. Removing swarf with the saw blade in motion may result in serious injury.

Vibration hazard

Although this tool is designed to minimise vibration risks, it was impossible to completely eliminate the vibrations which may cause residual risks. Improper handling of the tool can cause risks associated with vibration exposure. Vibration exposure may result in permanent damage to the nerves and blood circulation in the hands and the arms. Wear warm clothes when working at low temperatures and keep the hands warm and dry. If numbness, tingling, pain or skin whiteness occurs in your fingers or hands, stop operating the tool, report to the employer, and consult a doctor. Operate and perform maintenance works on the tool according to the instructions in this manual to avoid unnecessary increase of the vibration level. Choose, maintain and replace the consumables / cutters as described in this manual to prevent unnecessary increase of the vibration level. Rest the weight of the tool on its base, tensioner or stabiliser, if possible. Maintain a light, yet firm grip on the tool and mind the reaction forces from operating the tool. The risk of vibration is higher the higher is the force of your grip on the tool. Incorrect mounting of the cutter in the tool may result in increased vibration levels.

Residual risks

Even the correct operation of the tool entails certain and unavoidable residual risks. Depending on the type and design of the tool, the following potential hazards may occur, originating from:

  • touching an unguarded part of the saw blade, resulting in physical injury;
  • exposure to ejected fragments of the saw blade upon its fracture, resulting in physical injury;

- ejection of workpiece fragments;

- hearing loss if the required hearing protection is not worn at work;

- exposure to harmful substances leaking from the workpiece. Failure to follow the tool manual may result in misuse and expose the operator to other residual risks.

PRODUCT OPERATION

Warning! All adjustment and preparation for work shall be done with the band saw isolated from live voltage. Make sure that the battery has been disconnected from the tool socket.

Front handle (II) adjustment

Before starting to work, set the front handle in the safest and most ergonomic position. Adjust the handle at an angle at which both hands are at least slightly bent in the elbows when holding the band saw, and the grip itself ensures freedom of movement of the band saw within the working area.

Loosen the handle lock bolt, set the handle in the desired position, and then fix the handle by tightening the lock bolt.

Mounting the saw blade

Warning! The saw blade has sharp edges. To reduce the risk of injury, handle the saw blade while wearing protective gloves.

Warning! Mount the saw blade only with the dimensions listed in the technical data table.

Inspect the saw blade thoroughly for damage, deformation, broken teeth, and evidence of rust before mounting. Do not mount the saw blade if damaged.

Turn the saw blade tension lever as far as it will go towards the “-” mark (III). This will reduce the distance between the saw blade wheels and help release the saw blade and mount the new one.

Clean the gap in which the saw blade and its driving wheels move with a soft brush or compressed air at a pressure up to 0.3 MPa. Slide the saw blade into the slot (IV) so that it rests on the edge surface of both driving wheels.

The saw blade teeth must point to the outside of the gap (V).

Slide the saw blade between the guide rollers (VI) on both sides of the cutting area.

Turn the saw blade tension lever as far as it will go towards the “+” mark to increase the distance between the driving wheels and properly tension the saw blade.

Check that the saw blade has not slipped off the driving wheels and/or slipped out from between the guide rollers.

Saw blade speed control (VII)

The saw blade speed can be adjusted within the range specified in the technical data table. The saw blade speed is adjusted with the speed control knob. The higher the number visible on the knob, the higher the saw blade speed is.

Work area illumination

The illumination LED is turned on by pressing the power switch. Lighting is turned off by releasing the power switch.

Battery installation (VIII)

Warning! Before installing the battery in the tool, make sure that the power switch is in the off position, i.e. it is not pressed.

Slide the battery into the battery socket guides until it latches in the socket. A correctly installed battery cannot be removed otherwise than by pressing and holding the battery latch in this position, and then pulling the battery out of the tool socket.

Starting the band saw

Mount the saw blade and set the maximum saw blade speed.

Make sure that the saw switch is not pressed, then install the battery.

Hold the band saw by both handles (X). Adopt a balanced posture. Make sure that the saw blade will not touch any object when starting the band saw. Start the band saw by pressing and holding the power switch. Wait for the saw blade to reach is full speed and hold the band saw steady for about one minute.

The switch is equipped with a lock to prevent accidental pressing. The lock button must be pressed at the open padlock symbol (IX). Only then will you be able to press the switch down. If the lock button is pressed at the closed padlock symbol, it will prevent the switch from being pressed accidentally.

In the meantime watch the band saw for any abnormalities. If strong vibration, increased noise, odour or smoke is noticed, immediately turn off the band saw by releasing the power switch, wait for the saw blade to stop completely, put the band saw away and remove the battery from the tool. Do not restart the band saw before removing the cause of the abnormality.

If no signs of abnormal performance are found when starting the band saw, remove the battery from the tool and check whether the saw blade has not slipped off the driving wheels and/or out of the guide rollers. Mount the saw blade again, if needed.

Cutting materials

Warning! Do not use any coolants, e.g. water or oil, during cutting. The band saw is only suitable for dry cutting. Exposure of the band saw to water or liquids may result in electrical shock and serious injury or death.

Before you start cutting, prepare the workpiece. Check if the size of the workpiece is within the cutting range limits.

Mark the cutting line on all surfaces of the material the cut will be made on. This will help the saw blade run properly through the workpiece.

The material to be cut should be fixed. Use a vice, a clamp or other suitable fixtures or supports. If you want to cut a long material, support the workpiece near the location of the cut and at the opposite end. The workpiece must be supported on both sides of

EN

the cut. The support must prevent the workpiece parts being separated by the cut from collapsing inward, which may cause the saw blade to stick in between.

Keep the guide bar in contact with the workpiece throughout the cut.

Do not apply excessive pressure on the workpiece and/or an excessive saw blade speed. Establish the proper pressure and saw blade speed experimentally by trying to cut scrap material.

Watch the colour of the swarf and the edges of the cut. If discolouration becomes visible, the temperature is too high at the cut due to excessive pressure on the band saw and/or an excessive saw blade speed. When cutting metals other than steel, excessive pressure and/or band saw speed may cause caking of the saw blade teeth with the swarf. This will reduce the cutting performance.

Too much pressure and/or speed accelerates the wear of the saw blade. If you notice a decrease in the saw blade teeth sharpness or broken teeth after a cut, replace the saw blade with a new one. Reduce the pressure and/or the saw blade speed when cutting. Apply the band saw to the workpiece at an angle to the surface of entry (XI) to facilitate the engagement of the teeth. Apply the slightest pressure possible and a lower saw blade speed at the start of the cut. With the cut groove properly formed, you can increase the pressure and/or the saw blade speed as required to cut efficiently.

Safety instructions for battery charging

Caution! Before starting charging, make sure that the power unit body, cord and plug are not cracked or damaged. It is forbidden to use a defective or damaged charging station and power unit! Use only the supplied charging station and power unit to charge the batteries. The use of another power unit may result in fire or damage to the tool. The battery should only be charged in a closed, dry room, protected against unauthorised access, especially by children. Do not use the charging station and power unit without the constant supervision of an adult! If you need to leave the room where the tool is charging, disconnect the charger from the mains by removing the power unit plug from the mains socket. If smoke, suspicious odours, etc. are escaping from the charger, remove the charger plug from the mains socket immediately!

The tool is supplied with an uncharged battery and should therefore be charged according to the procedure described below with the included power unit and charging station before use. Li-ion (lithium-ion) batteries do not have the so-called “memory effect”, which means they can be recharged at any time. However, it is recommended to discharge the battery during normal operation and then charge it to full capacity. If, due to the nature of work, it is not possible to use the battery in such a manner every time, it should be done at least every several work cycles. Never discharge any batteries by short-circuiting the battery plates, as this will cause irreparable damage! In addition, do not check the battery charge status, by short-circuiting the plates and checking their sparking.

Battery storage

Ensure the proper storage conditions to extend the battery's life. The battery can last for approximately 500 charge-discharge cycles. Store the battery at a temperature ranging from 0^ to 30^ at the relative air humidity of 50% . Charge the battery to approx. 70% of its total capacity to store it for a longer period of time. In case of prolonged storage, the battery should be periodically charged once a year. Do not over-discharge the battery as this will shorten its life and may cause irreparable damage.

During storage, the battery will gradually discharge due to leakage. The self-discharge process depends on the storage temperature – the higher the temperature is, the faster the discharge process is. If the batteries are stored incorrectly, the electrolyte may leak. In case of leakage, secure the leak with a neutralising agent. In the case of electrolyte contact with eyes, rinse eyes thoroughly with water, and immediately seek medical attention. It is not allowed to use the tool with a damaged battery. If the battery is completely worn, return it to a specialist waste disposal centre.

Transport of batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are treated as hazardous materials, according to legal regulations. The user of the tool can transport the product together with the battery and the batteries alone, by land. In that case, no additional conditions have to be met. If you entrust transport to third parties (e.g. a courier company), follow the regulations regarding the transport of hazardous goods. Before shipping, please contact a properly qualified person. It is not allowed to transport damaged batteries. For the duration of transport, remove the demountable batteries from the product and secure the exposed contacts, e.g. by covering them with insulation tape.

Protect the batteries in the packaging in such a way that they do not move inside the packaging during transport. National regulations for the transport of hazardous materials must also be observed.

Charging the battery

Caution! Before charging, disconnect the power unit from the mains by removing the plug from the mains socket. In addition, remove any dirt and dust from the battery and battery clamps with a soft, dry cloth.

The battery has a built-in charge indicator. The LEDs will light up by pressing the button. The more of them come on, the more charged the battery is. If the LEDs do not light up when the button is pressed, the battery is discharged.

Disconnect the battery from the tool.

Slide the battery into the charger socket (XII).

Plug the charger into a mains socket.

The red LED will light up, which indicates the charging process.

When charging is complete, the red LED will turn off and the green LED will light up to indicate that the battery is fully charged.

Pull the power unit plug out of the mains socket.

EN

Pull the battery out of the charging station by pressing the battery clamp button.

Caution! If the green LED lights up when the charger is connected to the mains, the battery is fully charged. In this case, the charger will not start the charging process.

PRODUCT MAINTENANCE

Warning! All maintenance must be carried out with the product isolated from the mains voltage. Make sure that the battery has been disconnected from the tool.

Inspect the saw blade, the guide rollers, and the rubber lining of the driving wheels for damage after work. If damage or excessive tear and wear is found, replace the affected parts. You can replace the saw blade as instructed above. Other components require replacement at an authorized service agent's.

Having finished working, check the tool for damage by visually inspecting the exterior and the body and the battery handle, the functioning of the electric switch, the vents for clogging, the motor brushes for sparking, the noise level of the bearings and the drive transmission, and how the tool starts and runs. Any irregularities found during the inspection or the operation signal the need for repair to be done at the service centre. After finishing work, the housing, ventilation openings, switches, auxiliary handle and covers should be cleaned e.g. with an air jet (with a pressure not exceeding 0.3 MPa), paintbrush or dry cloth without the use of chemicals and cleaning agents. Clean the tools and the handles with a clean dry cloth. During the warranty period, the user is not allowed to install any power tools or replace any components or parts, as this will void the warranty rights.
