- Introduction
Congratulations! You have chosen one of our high-quality products. Please familiarise yourself with the product before using it for the first time. To do this, please read through the following operating and safety instructions carefully.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN!
- Intended use
The 17 A car battery charger is a multi-level car battery charger, which is suitable for charging and trickle-charging the following 12 V (6 cell) batteries: lead batteries with gel style electrolyte/maintenance-free (MF), enhanced flooded batteries "EFB"/with absorbent glass mat "AGM", open standard (wet) batteries with electrolyte solution (WET) or LFP (Lithium iron phosphate) with integrated battery management system (BMS). Discharged batteries can also be regenerated (depending on the battery type). The device has a Battery Push function, which, after a 20-minute precharge with a maximum charging current of 17 A, supports the battery with a brief 75 A current pulse when starting the engine. The charger is suitable for 12 V car and transporter batteries with a capacity of between 8 Ah and 250 Ah. The car battery charger has a safety circuit against sparking and overheating. Store these instructions in an easily accessible place. Ensure you hand over all documentation when passing the product on to a third party. Any use that differs to the intended use as stated is prohibited and potentially dangerous. Damage resulting from non-observation or incorrect use is not covered by
the warranty or any liability on the part of the manufacturer. The device is not intended for commercial use and should only be used indoors. Commercial use will void the warranty. The product must only be started up initially by people who have been trained to do so.

PLEASE NOTE:
The car battery charger cannot charge any electrical vehicles with integrated rechargeable battery.

PLEASE READ THE OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE USE. THEY ARE A PART OF THE PRODUCT AND MUST BE AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN!
■ The charger is only suitable for indoor operation! Note for Finland: The charger must not be used outside or in areas where the temperature is the same as the outdoor temperature!
DANGER!
Avoid danger to life and danger of injury from improper use!
CAUTION!
Do not operate the device with a damaged cable, mains cable or mains plug. Damaged mains cables pose danger to life from electric shock.
In case of damage, the mains cable must only be repaired by authorized and trained specialists! Contact the service point in your country if you need any repairs!
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!
Ensure that the vehicle is not in operation if the battery is permanently installed in the vehicle! Switch off the ignition and put the vehicle into
the parking position, with the parking brake engaged (e.g. car) or the rope attached (e.g. boat)!
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!
Disconnect the car battery charger from the mains before removing the connection terminals on the battery.
■ First connect the connection terminal that is not connected to the car body.
■ Connect the other connection terminal to the car body away from the battery and the petrol line.
■ Connect the car battery charger to the supply grid only after doing this.
■ Disconnect the car battery charger from the supply grid after charging.
■ Only then disconnect the connection terminal from the car body. Then disconnect the connection terminal from the battery.
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!
Only touch the pole connection terminals (“−” and “+”) in the insulated area!
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!
Conduct the connection to the battery and the socket of the mains grid completely protected from moisture!
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!
Perform installation, servicing and maintenance of the car battery charger only when the mains current is not connected!
RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK!
First disconnect the negative pole connection cable of the car battery charger from the negative pole of the battery upon completing the charging and trickle charging process, if the battery is continually connected in the vehicle.
- Do not leave any toddlers or children unsupervised around the car batterycharger!
■ Children cannot assess possible dangers in the use of electrical devices. Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.
EXPLOSION HAZARD!
Protect yourself from highly explosive hydrogen-oxygen reactions! Gaseous hydrogen can escape during charging or trickle charging of the battery. Oxyhydrogen is a potentially explosive mixture of gaseous hydrogen and oxygen. The oxyhydrogen reaction occurs on contact with open fire (flames, smouldering or sparks)! Perform charging and trickle charging in a weather-protected space that is well ventilated. Ensure that there are no naked flames (flames, embers or sparks) during charging or trickle charging!
EXPLOSION AND FIRE HAZARDS!
Ensure that explosive or flammable substances, such as gasoline or solvents cannot be ignited when you are using the car battery charger!
EXPLOSIVE GASES!
Avoid flames and sparks!
■ Ensure sufficient ventilation when charging.
- Put the battery onto a well-ventilated surface when charging. Otherwise, the device can be damaged.

EXPLOSION HAZARD!
Ensure that the positive pole connection cable has no contact with a fuel line (e.g. petrol line)!
DANGER OF CAUSTIC BURNS!
Protect your eyes and skin from caustic burns from the acid (sulphuric acid) when touching the battery!
■ Use acid-resistant safety goggles, clothing and gloves! If your eyes or skin have come into contact with the sulphuric acid, flush the affected body region with plenty of clear, running water and seek medical advice at once!
- Avoid electrical short circuits when connecting the car battery charger to the battery. Connect the negative pole connection cable only to the negative pole of the battery or the car body. Connect the positive pole connection cable only to the positive pole of the battery!
Before connecting to the mains, verify the mains power has the required 230 V\~50 Hz, a 16 A fuse and an ELCB switch (earth leakage circuit breaker)! Otherwise, the device can be damaged.
- Do not use the car battery charger near any fires, heat and long periods when the temperature is above 50 °C! At higher temperatures, the output power of the car battery charger will drop automatically.
■ Only use the car battery charger with the original parts it was delivered with!
- Do not cover the car battery charger with any objects! Otherwise, the device can be damaged.
■ Protect the electrical contact surfaces of the battery from short circuit!
■ Only use the car battery charger for the charging or trickle charging of undamaged 12 V lead batteries (with electrolyte solution or gel) or 12 V Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries with integrated BMS system! Otherwise, material damage can result.
- Do not use the car battery charger for the charging and trickle charging of non-rechargeable batteries. Otherwise, material damage can result.
- Do not use the car battery charger for the charging and trickle charging of damaged or frozen batteries! Otherwise, material damage can result.
- Please refer to the original operating instructions about the maintenance of your battery prior to connecting the car battery charger! Otherwise, there is a danger of injury and/or the risk of damage to the device.
■ Before connecting the car battery charger to a battery that is continually connected to the vehicle, learn about compliance with the electrical safety and maintenance in the original operating instructions of the vehicle! Otherwise, there is a danger of injury and/or the risk of property damage.
■ Disconnect the car battery charger from the mains current when it is not is use, to protect the environment as well! Note that power is consumed in standby operation as well.
■ Always pay attention and be aware of what you are doing. Proceed sensibly and do not put the car battery charger into operation when you are not focused or not feeling well.
Personal safety:
This device can be used by children eight years and older and also by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capacities or a lack of experience and knowledge if they are supervised or they have been instructed with regard to the safe use of the device and they understand the dangers it presents. Do not allow children to play with the product. Cleaning and day-to-day maintenance must not be performed by children without supervision.
■ Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.
- Keep the device away from people – especially children – and pets.
In the work area, the user is responsible to third parties for damage caused by the use of the device.
- Do not leave the device charging unattended.
- Keep the device in a dry place and out of the reach of children.

How to avoid damage to the device and any harm to persons that may result from such damage:
Working with the device:
- Check the device for damage before startup and only use it in perfect condition.
■ Make sure that the mains plug and connection terminals do not get wet. Do not expose the device to rain or damp weather. Do not allow it to come into contact with water or immerse it in water. There is a risk of electric shock!
In hot weather, do not leave the device in the car. The device could be irreparably damaged as a result. - Do not operate the device near any flammable liquids or gases. Failure to comply risks causing a fire or explosion!
■ Switch the device off and remove the plug from the socket:
- if you are not using the device;
- if you are leaving the device unsupervised;
- if you are doing cleaning work;
- if the connection cable is damaged;
■ Only use the accessories supplied and recommended by the manufacturer.
- Do not disassemble or modify the car battery charger. This device must only be repaired by a maintenance technician.
- Do not expose the device to any source of heat.

CAUTION: How to avoid accidents and injuries from electric shock:
Electrical safety:
- Do not carry the device by the cable. Do not unplug the plug from the socket by pulling on the cable. Protect the cable from heat, oil and sharp edges.
If the cable is damaged, immediately unplug it from the plug socket.
- Specific safety instructions
■ A slightly increased temperature during charging is not a malfunction, but completely normal.
■ Protect the car battery charger from moisture and high temperatures, including fires.
■ Store the car battery charger in a dry place and protect the device from moisture and corrosion.
- Do not drop the car battery charger while it is being used.
Note for Finland: The charger must not be used outside or in areas where the temperature is the same as the outdoor temperature!
• Before commissioning
Take all parts from the packaging and check whether the device or parts show any damage. If this is the case, do not use the device. Contact the manufacturer at the specified service address. Remove all protective foils and other transport packaging. Check whether the delivery is complete.
■ Always remove the mains plug from the socket before you perform any work on the car battery 1 charger.
Before connecting the charger please read the operating instructions for the battery.
In addition, you must adhere to the instructions from the vehicle manufacturer where a battery is continuously connected in the vehicle. Secure the vehicle, switch the ignition off.
- Clean the battery poles. Make sure that the dirt does not come into contact with your eyes.
■ Make sure that there is sufficient ventilation.
PLEASE NOTE: The ambient temperature is measured in the charger. Hence, for optimum function, make sure the battery exhibits the same temperature as the environment.
- Using the device
- Connecting

PLEASE NOTE:
Always observe the instructions from the vehicle manufacturer or the battery manufacturer.
- Disconnect the negative pole connection cable (black) of the vehicle from the negative pole of the battery first before charging and trickle charging if the battery is continually connected in the vehicle. The negative pole of your battery is usually connected to the car body of the vehicle.
■ Then disconnect the positive pole connection cable (red) of the vehicle from the positive pole of the battery.
Only then should you connect the "+" pole quick-contact connection terminal (red) 5 of the car battery charger 1 to the "+" pole of the battery.
Connect the “-” pole quick-contact connection terminal (black) to the “-” pole of the battery. Connect the mains cable 3 of the car battery charger 1 to the socket. If the output terminals are connected in reverse, then the reverse polarity symbol lights up 11 as well as the “Er4” display.
- Disconnecting
■ Disconnect the device from the mains current.
- Disconnect the “-” pole quick-contact connection terminal (black) 6 from the “-” pole of the battery.
■ Disconnect the "+" pole quick-contact connection terminal (red) from the "+" pole of the battery.
■ Reconnect the positive pole connection cable of the vehicle to the positive pole of the battery.
■ Reconnect the negative pole connection cable of the vehicle to the negative pole of the battery.
- Charging the battery
When the terminals and 6 are connected, and the mains cable is connected to the power supply 3, the battery voltage 23 will be shown on the display 7.
■ Press the BATTERY TYPE but to select the correct battery type: LFP (Lithium iron phosphate) 17, STD (Standard (wet) battery) 19, EFB/AGM 20 or GEL/MF (maintenance-free battery) 22.
Press the MODE button to select the correct charging mode for cars or transporters.
The charging process will be started when the START/STOP button is pressed. The charging progress can be seen on the status display 14 and the voltage display 23.
The charging process can be stopped by pressing the START/STOP button 16 again.
As soon as the battery is fully charged, the display will show "FUL".

PLEASE NOTE: The car battery charger 1 has an integrated temperature sensor and when the temperature is below 5 °C it automatically adapts the charging curve to best fit the external conditions.

PLEASE NOTE: In LFP mode 17 the battery management system (BMS) which is built into the battery can take over the charge regulation of the charger. This means that the charging process can be interrupted by the BMS which is built into the LFP battery if the battery is fully charged or there is a defect or an anomaly. In this case please contact the battery manufacturer.

- Battery Push function
■ Press the BATTERY TYPE button to select the correct battery type: LFP (Lithium iron phosphate) 17, STD (Standard (wet) battery) 19, EFB/AGM 20 or GEL/MF (maintenance-free battery) 22.
■ Press the MODE button to select Battery Push mode 10.
The process will be started when the START/STOP button is pressed.
A 20-minute precharge phase is started. During this time a 20-minute countdown is shown on the display 7.
■ Once the countdown has finished, then make an attempt to start the engine.
After a start attempt, the device needs to cool off for 180 seconds. During this same time the Battery Push symbol 10 will flash.
Once the Battery Push symbol has stopped flashing, then you can make another attempt at starting the vehicle.
- Alternator and battery test function
■ Press the TEST button to select battery test mode (car 8 and transporter 9 symbol on the display) or alternator test mode (alternator test symbol 10 on the display).
■ Start the selected mode by pressing the START/STOP button
In battery test mode, the charge level of the battery will be shown on the display 7 as a percentage 23.
In alternator test mode the capacity of the alternator will be shown on the display 7 as a percentage 23.
When in alternator test mode, if a voltage is established which is too high or too low, then "Er5" will be shown on the display 7. In this case please contact your car repair shop, as it can be assumed that the alternator is defective.
● Maintenance mode/automatic recharge function
The car battery charger 1 has an automatic recharge function. This means that a battery can remain permanently connected to the car battery charger 1, even after the charging process has finished. Depending on the drop in voltage in the battery (through self-discharge) the charger reacts with different levels of charging current. The battery can remain connected to the charger over a longer period of time. If the battery voltage decreases too much, then a new charging process will start.
• Device protection function
As soon as a different situation occurs, such as a short circuit, critical drop in voltage during the charging process, open circuit or reversed connection of the output terminals, the battery charger 1 switches off automatically. The electronic system resets the system immediately to its home position, in order to avoid damage. If the device should become too hot during charging, the output power is automatically reduced. This protects the device from damage.

● Maintenance and care
■ Always remove the mains cable from the socket before you perform any work on the car battery charger 1.
The device is maintenance-free. Switch the device off. Clean the metal and plastic surfaces of the device with a dry cloth.
■ Never use any solvents or other aggressive cleaning agents.
- Storage
- Keep the device in a dry place and out of the reach of children.
■ To avoid damage, take care to ensure that the cable has not become kinked.
Wind the charging cable and mains cable onto the frame of the organiser 2. Fix the terminals 5 and 6 to the holder for fixing the connection terminals 4.

According to European Directive 2012/19/EU, used electrical devices must be collected separately for environmentally compatible recycling or recovery. The symbol of the crossed out dustbin means that this device must not be disposed of in household waste at the end of its service life. The device must be handed in at established collection points, recycling centres or waste management depots. The disposal of defective devices which you have sent in will be carried out free of charge. In addition, distributors of electrical and electronic equipment as well as food distributors are obliged to accept returned waste. LIDL provides you with return options directly in its branches and shops. Return and disposal is free of charge for you. When buying a new device you have the right to return an equivalent old device at no charge. In addition you have the option, regardless of whether you are buying a new device, to hand in (up to three) old devices at no charge, as long as the device is no larger than 25 cm in any dimension.

Before returning, please remove batteries or rechargeable battery packs which are not enclosed by the old device, as well as bulbs, which can be removed without destroying the product and take them to a separate collection point.
Take used batteries to a waste management company in your city or community or return them to your dealer. This satisfies your legal obligations while also making contribution to protecting the environment.

Please note the marking on the different packaging materials and separate them as necessary.
The packaging materials are marked with abbreviations (a) and digits (b) with the following definitions: 1–7: Plastics, 20–22: Paper and cardboard, 80–98: Composite materials.

Dear Customer,
The warranty for this equipment is 3 years from the date of purchase. In the event of product defects, you have legal rights against the retailer of this product. Your statutory rights are not affected in any way by our warranty conditions, which are described below.
• Warranty conditions
The warranty period begins on the date of purchase. Please retain the original sales receipt. This document is required as your proof of purchase.
Should this product show any defect in materials or manufacture within 3 years from the date of purchase, we will repair or replace it – at our discretion – free of charge. This warranty service requires that you retain proof of purchase (sales receipt) for the defective device for the three year period and that you briefly explain in writing what the fault entails and when it occurred.
If the defect is covered by our warranty, we will repair and return your product or send you a replacement. The original warranty period is not extended when a device is repair or replaced.
● Warranty period and statutory claims for defects
The warranty period is not extended by the guarantee. This also applies to replaced and repaired parts. Any damages or defects detected at the time of purchase must be reported immediately after unpacking. Any incidental repairs after the warranty period are subject to a fee.
• Extent of warranty
This device has been manufactured according to strict quality guidelines and carefully inspected before delivery.
The warranty applies to material and manufacturing defects only. This warranty does not extend to product parts, which are subject to normal wear and tear and can thus be regarded as consumable parts, or for damages to fragile parts, e.g. switches or parts made from glass.
This warranty is voided if the product becomes damaged or is improperly used or maintained. For proper use of the product, all of the instructions given in the operating instructions must be followed precisely. If the operating instructions advise you or warn you against certain uses or actions, these must be avoided in all circumstances.
The product is for consumer use only and is not intended for commercial or trade use. The warranty becomes void in the event of misuse and improper use, use of force, and any work on the device that has not been carried out by our authorised service branch.

To ensure prompt processing of your claim, please follow the instructions given below.
Please retain proof of purchase and the article number (e.g. IAN) for all inquiries.
The product number can be found on the type plate, an engraving, the cover page of your instructions (bottom left), or the sticker on the back or underside of the device.
In the event of malfunctions or other defects, please first contact our service department below by phone or email. If your product is found to be defective, you can then send your product with proof of purchase (till receipt) and a statement describing what the fault involves and when it occurred free of charge to the service address given.
