How to install a hard drive in the ZM-VE500?

Remove the two screws from the rear aluminum cover, take off the cover, insert a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive into the connector, then close the cover and tighten the two provided screws.

How to load an ISO file as a virtual drive?

Place the ISO file in the "_iso" folder at the root of the hard drive. Use the ∧/∨ keys on the touchpad to select the file, then press the "5" key to mount the virtual drive. Press again to unmount.

How to enable encryption on the ZM-VE500?

In the main menu, select "Encryption" then "Enable encryption". Confirm that all data will be lost, enter a password (4-8 digits) and confirm. Then initialize and format the disk in the operating system.

What to do if I forget my encryption password?

The password cannot be recovered. Encrypted data will be permanently lost. You must disable encryption (which erases all data) and start over.

How to change the operating mode (dual, CD-ROM, hard drive)?

In the main menu, select "Mode Selection" then choose from "Dual Mode" (HDD+CD-ROM), "Optical Drive Mode" (CD-ROM only) or "Hard Drive Mode" (HDD only). The selected mode is indicated by an icon.

Write protection is not working, what to do?

In the main menu, go to "Write Protection (W-P)". Make sure "Enable W-P" is selected to allow reading and writing. If you want to protect, choose "Disable W-P" to switch to read-only.

How to update the firmware of the ZM-VE500?

Download the latest firmware from www.zalman.com. Follow the instructions in the quick guide provided with the device. The update is usually done through the device menu.

What does the LED indicator color mean?

Blue LED indicates USB 3.0 connection, white LED indicates USB 2.0. Blinking indicates read/write activity.

The computer does not recognize the ZM-VE500, what to do?

Check the USB cable and try a different port. Make sure the hard drive is properly installed. If the problem persists, try changing the mode (e.g., hard drive only mode) or reset the device by unplugging it.

■ Do NOT touch the circuit with bare hands. The chip controlling the ZM-VE500's virtual CD-ROM is a electrostatic sensitive part. ZM-VE500 may not operate properly if the circuit is damaged by the electrostatic discharge.

6 Virtual CD-ROM

■ To use Virtual ODD, iso file must be located in the “_iso” folder of device.
■ After finding iso file with ^ / v, touch "5" to load / unload it.
■ External HDD or CD-ROM may not be recognized according to current mode state
