How to install the Whale External BBQ Outlet?

Installation must be carried out by a qualified gas specialist, in accordance with the instructions and standard BS EN 1949-2011. Use the provided cut-out template (page 31 of the manual) to drill a hole in the vehicle wall, then fix the outlet with the supplied screws. Ensure no cables or pipes are behind the wall. After installation, check for leaks with a leak detection fluid.

What type of gas to use with this outlet?

The outlet is designed for LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), either propane or butane. It must not be used with any other type of gas.

What is the required gas pressure?

Gas supply must be between 0.03 bar and 0.05 bar. Too low or too high pressure can damage the device or pose a safety risk.

What to do in case of gas smell?

In case of gas smell, follow these steps: extinguish all open flames, do not operate any electrical switches, open windows and doors for ventilation, do not smoke, shut off gas supply to the vehicle, and have the system inspected by a qualified technician.

The cover does not slide freely, what to do?

Remove the cover and clean the guide rails to remove any seal residue or debris. Ensure the fixing screws are not too tight. If the problem persists, check that the outlet is not deformed.

Can I directly connect a gas bottle to the outlet?

No, this outlet is only intended as a gas outlet point for powering a BBQ. Never connect a gas bottle directly to the outlet, this is dangerous and prohibited.

Is the warranty valid if I modify the device?

Any alteration, misuse, or use of non-Whale original parts voids the warranty. Moreover, using the device without proper installation is illegal in some countries.

How to clean the Whale BBQ outlet?

Regularly clean the gas inlet tap to ensure no debris. Use a soft dry cloth. The grooves around the outlet must be free of residual sealing material to ensure optimal operation.

Can I use the outlet without the Easi-Slide cover?

The Easi-Slide cover is necessary to protect the outlet and ensure its proper functioning. It is included as an obligatory accessory. Without it, the outlet could be damaged or pose a leak risk.

How often should the gas inlet tap be checked?

It is recommended to regularly check the gas inlet tap to ensure the nozzle is clean and the rear connection is not damaged. A visual inspection before each use is advised.

Installation and Operating Instructions

This Whale External BBQ Outlet Socket is designed to supply an exterior BBQ using your LPG (Propane or Butane) recreational vehicle on board gas supply.

This pack contains:

1x Whale External BBQ Outlet Socket

1x Gas Hose Connector

In addition you will need:

1x Whale Easi-Slide Lid

Whale BBQ sockets including the gas hose connector must be installed and serviced by a Qualified Gas Engineer in accordance with these installation instructions and BS EN 1949-2011.

Safety

WARNING: Care must be taken when using the external BBQ outlet socket. NEVER barbeque next to an awning or tent.

WARNING: Only for use as an outlet point for gas, never connect a gas bottle directly to the outlet.

- In the unlikely event of leaks in the gas system, or if there is a smell of gas:

• Extinguish all naked flames
• Switch off all appliances and do not operate any electrical switches
• Turn off all gas appliances
• Open windows and doors for ventilation
• Do not smoke
• Shut off gas connection

• Immediately ensure that the system is thoroughly checked by a Qualified Gas Engineer.

• This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.

• Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
• Any alteration to the appliance, misuse or use of non-original Whale parts may invalidate the warranty. Non observation of the installation and operating instructions will lead to cancellation of the warranty and exclusion of liability claims. It also becomes illegal to use the appliance if incorrectly installed, and in some countries may make it illegal to use the vehicle.
• Regularly inspect gas tap to ensure inside nozzle is free from debris, and gas connection to the rear has not been damaged.
  • Supply to external appliance should not be less than 0.03 bar and not greater than 0.05 bar.

Before you begin

• (Figure 2) Ensure your caravan, motorhome or panel van is on a level surface and secured.

•(Figure 3) Ensure you have enough free wall space for the installation including enough clearance for the Whale Easi-Slide Lid when installing and open.
- Theremust be adequate gas drop out ventilation in the installation area.
- Ensure your gas supply is disconnected and isolated and that any gas remaining in the system is purged.

Socket Installation (▶1 - 17)

•( ▶1) Ensure that there are no electrical cables or gas piping directly behind the vehicle wall where you are installing the socket.
•( ▶2) Use Socket Mounting Profile on page 31 as your cutting template and fix to vehicle wall using masking tape.
•(▶8) Masking tape should be fitted around the outside of the socket to protect the grooves.
•( ▶11) Ensure the rear sealing face of the socket is clean and free from any dirt or debris to ensure a good seal.
•( ▶13) Tighten screws evenly to avoid twisting the socket. Follow order shown.
•( ▶14) In the instance that wall battens do not exist behind the socket cut out, use flat nuts to secure screws in place.
- (▶15) When removing sealant from around the socket when installed, also clean the grooves to ensure protection and smooth use of socket.

Helpful Hints

• If the cover does not move freely when installed, remove it and ensure guide rails are free from sealant and debris.
• If your socket appears to be twisted when installed, slightly adjust the sealing screws.

Fittings Installation (to be carried out by a Qualified Gas Engineer) (▶ 18-21)

• (▶18) Always check for leaks using leak detection fluid.

Operation (▶22-27)

• Tap will not open when hose is not connected. This is to prevent damage to the tap and fittings and is an additional safety feature of the Whale External BBQ Outlet Socket.
• The valve is designed in accordance with BS EN 1949-2011 and cannot be operated unless the hose fitting is in place.
• The gas tap has an integrated non-return valve therefore gas cannot be supplied to the vehicle.
  • This tap is designed solely for gas supply from the vehicle to an exterior BBQ.
