Frequently Asked Questions - 510530 Intellinet

How to connect the Intellinet 510530 converter to my network?
Connect the RJ45 port of the converter to an Ethernet port on your switch or router using a Cat5e or higher cable. Then, connect the fiber optic port to another compatible converter (e.g., model 510547) via a simplex fiber cable.
What type of fiber cable to use with the 510530?
The 510530 uses a simplex fiber optic cable (single strand). It operates in WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing): it transmits at 1310 nm and receives at 1550 nm (or vice versa depending on the paired model).
Can I use the 510530 with another converter model?
Yes, to work in bidirectional WDM, the 510530 must be paired with a compatible model such as the 510547 (Fast Ethernet) or 545075 (Gigabit), depending on the desired speed.
What is the maximum distance supported by the 510530?
The maximum distance depends on the fiber type: up to 20 km with single-mode fiber (SM) and up to 2 km with multimode fiber (MM). Use fiber suitable for your needs.
What do the LEDs on the converter mean?
The indicators are: PWR (power), 1000M (1000 Mbps link), Link/Act (green for active link, blinking for activity), FDX/COL (full duplex or collisions), and SD (optical signal detection).
How to configure the converter?
No configuration is needed: the converter is plug-and-play. It automatically detects the speed and duplex of the copper network. Simply connect the power and cables.
Does the 510530 support Gigabit Ethernet?
No, the 510530 is a Fast Ethernet model (10/100 Mbps). For Gigabit, use model 545068 or 545075 as per the manual.
Can I use a duplex fiber cable (two strands) with this converter?
No, the fiber port of the 510530 is designed for a simplex cable. Using a duplex cable would require an adapter or a different converter type.
What to do if the 'Link/Act' LED does not light up?
First, check that the power is connected (PWR LED on). Then, ensure the copper and fiber cables are properly connected and both converters are powered on. Test with another cable or port.
How to maintain the converter?
Unplug the power before any cleaning. Clean the housing with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid chemicals. Keep the fiber ports clean using an appropriate cleaning kit.

CONNECTIONS

Twisted Pair - RJ45

Connect the UTP port of the media converter to an RJ45 port on the network; e.g., to an Ethernet switch. Cat5e or better cabling is recommended.

Fiber Optic

As shown above, one fiber optic cable needs to be connected between two WDM media converters. As a rule, these media converters must be used in pairs. Model 510547 connects to model 510530 (Fast Ethernet), and model 545068 connects to 545075 (Gigabit Ethernet).

POWER

Plug the power adapter into the 5 V DC input jack on the media converter, then connect it to a regular power outlet. Only use the included power adapter or one with matching specifications (output of 5 V DC, at least 1 A).
