Frequently Asked Questions - 508544 Intellinet

What is the role of the Intellinet 508544 converter?
It converts a copper Ethernet signal (RJ45) to a fiber optic signal (SC multimode) and vice versa, allowing network distance extension up to 550 m.
What cables should be used to connect the converter?
For the copper port, use a Cat5e or higher RJ45 cable. For fiber, two multimode fiber optic cables with SC connectors.
How to connect two converters together?
Connect the TX output of the first converter to the RX input of the second, and the RX output of the first to the TX input of the second.
What does the PWR LED mean?
It lights up when the power adapter is correctly connected and supplying power.
How to interpret the LINK/ACT LED (TP or FP)?
Solid on: active link; blinking: data transmission; off: no link.
What to do if the FDX/COL LED blinks?
This indicates data collisions. Check that cabling is correct and the other device is in full-duplex.
What is the purpose of DIP switch position 1?
It enables (ON) or disables (OFF) the Link Fault Pass-through (LFP) function, which transmits link faults from one port to the other.
What power supply to use for the converter?
Use only the provided power adapter (5 V DC, 1 A) or an equivalent adapter.
Can the converter operate in half-duplex?
Yes, it is compatible with full-duplex and half-duplex modes thanks to auto-negotiation.
How to clean the converter?
Disconnect it, then wipe it with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use chemical or abrasive products.

Twisted Pair - RJ45

Connect the UTP port of the media converter to an RJ45 port on the network (e.g., to an Ethernet switch). Cat5e or better cabling is recommended.

Fiber Optic

As shown above, two fiber optic cables need to be connected between two ideally identical media converters. Make a connection from Media Converter 1 TX to Media Converter 2 RX, and from Media Converter 1 RX to Media Converter 2 TX. Maximum length and fiber cable specification depend on the model. (See Models.)
