Frequently Asked Questions - 510547 Intellinet

How to connect the 510547 converter to a network?
Connect the converter's UTP (RJ45) port to an Ethernet port of a switch or router using a Cat5e or higher cable. Use a simplex fiber optic cable to connect the converter to another compatible WDM converter.
Which fiber cable should I use?
Use a single-mode simplex fiber optic cable with appropriate connector (LC, SC depending on model). A single cable is sufficient because WDM technology allows bidirectional transmission on a single fiber.
Which other models is the 510547 compatible with?
The 510547 (Fast Ethernet) must be used with model 510530. For the Gigabit version, model 545068 pairs with 545075.
What do the LED indicators mean?
PWR: power present. 1000M: 1000 Mbps link. Link/Act TP: active link on RJ45. Link/Act FP: active link on fiber. FDX/COL: full duplex or collision. SD: optical signal detected.
Can I use this converter with a duplex fiber cable?
Yes, if you use standard mode (non-WDM), you will need two fiber cables (duplex) and standard converters. The 510547 supports both modes depending on configuration.
What is the maximum supported distance?
With single-mode fiber, the distance can reach several kilometers (typically up to 10 km or more depending on the model). See specifications for details.
How to know if the converter is working properly?
Check that the PWR LED is on, that Link/Act TP and FP are on (link established), and that SD is on (optical signal received). If there is a problem, test with another cable.
Does the converter require a special power supply?
Use only the power adapter supplied with the device. Do not use any other power source to avoid damage.
Can I plug the converter directly into a wall outlet?
Yes, the power adapter plugs into a standard outlet (100-240 V AC). The converter itself is powered at low voltage.
How to clean the converter?
Unplug the device before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use solvents or abrasive products.

CONNECTIONS

Twisted Pair - RJ45

Connect the UTP port of the media converter to an RJ45 port on the network; e.g., to an Ethernet switch. Cat5e or better cabling is recommended.

Fiber Optic

As shown above, one fiber optic cable needs to be connected between two WDM media converters. As a rule, these media converters must be used in pairs. Model 510547 connects to model 510530 (Fast Ethernet), and model 545068 connects to 545075 (Gigabit Ethernet).

POWER

Plug the power adapter into the 5 V DC input jack on the media converter, then connect it to a regular power outlet. Only use the included power adapter or one with matching specifications (output of 5 V DC, at least 1 A).

LEDS

PWR – The power adapter is connected when lit.

1000M – 1000 Mbps link on the twisted pair connection when lit.

Link/Act (TP = RJ45; FP = Fiber) – Active link when lit; data traffic when flashing; no active network link when unlit.

FDX/COL (for TP/RJ45) – Full duplex connection when lit; data collisions when flashing; half duplex when unlit.

SD (for FP/Fiber) – Fiber optic signal is detected when lit; no signal when unlit.
