Frequently Asked Questions - X370M-HDV ASROCK

What is the memory compatibility of the ASRock X370M-HDV?
The motherboard supports DDR4 memory in dual channel configuration. With a Ryzen 2000 series (Pinnacle Ridge) processor, frequencies can reach 3200 MHz when overclocking. For Raven Ridge APUs, the limit is 3200 MHz (OC). Maximum capacity is 32 GB distributed across 2 slots. Check the compatibility list on ASRock's website for certified modules.
Can I use a Ryzen 5000 processor on this board?
No, this motherboard is designed for AMD Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series processors and A-series APUs. Ryzen 5000 requires a newer chipset such as B550 or X570. Check the supported processor list on ASRock's website.
How to update the BIOS?
Download the latest BIOS version from ASRock's website. Place the file on a USB stick formatted in FAT32. Restart and enter UEFI (F2 or Del key). Use the 'Instant Flash' tool to select the file and start the update. Never cut power during the process.
Does the board support overclocking?
Yes, the UEFI allows overclocking of the CPU (via multiplier and voltage) and memory (via XMP profiles or manual). The 7-phase Digi Power power supply ensures increased stability. Monitor temperatures with a good fan.
What type of M.2 connector is supported?
The Ultra M.2 socket accepts M.2 modules type 2242, 2260 and 2280. It supports SATA3 (6 Gbit/s) and PCIe Gen3 x4 (up to 32 Gbit/s) interfaces with Ryzen processors. It is ideal for fast NVMe SSDs.
Can I use a CPU fan with a 4-pin connector?
Yes, the CPU fan connector (CPU_FAN1) is a 4-pin connector compatible with PWM. It can deliver up to 1 A (12 W). Use a PWM fan to benefit from automatic speed control in UEFI.
How many USB 3.0 ports are there?
The board offers 4 USB 3.1 Gen1 (USB 3.0) ports on the back and 2 additional ports via an internal header (for front panel). There are also 2 USB 2.0 ports on the back and 4 ports via two internal headers.
What video outputs are available?
The video outputs are: one D-Sub (VGA), one DVI-D, and one HDMI. HDMI supports 4K resolution at 30 Hz. You can use up to three monitors simultaneously if the processor has an integrated GPU.
Does this motherboard support RAID?
Yes, the 4 SATA3 ports support RAID 0, RAID 1, and RAID 10. You can configure RAID via UEFI or Windows Disk Manager. Note that RAID is not supported on the M.2 port.
What to do if the board does not start?
First, check that all power cables are properly connected (ATX 24-pin and CPU 4-pin). Reseat the RAM and graphics card if present. Reset the CMOS by removing the coin battery for 30 seconds. Consult the manual for diagnostic LED indicators.

Please realize that there is a certain risk involved with overclocking, including adjusting the setting in the BIOS, applying Untied Overclocking Technology, or using third-party overclocking tools. Overclocking may affect your system's stability, or even cause damage to the components and devices of your system. It should be done at your own risk and expense. We are not responsible for possible damage caused by overclocking.

Chapter 2 Installation

This is a Micro ATX form factor motherboard. Before you install the motherboard, study the configuration of your chassis to ensure that the motherboard fits into it.

Pre-installation Precautions

Take note of the following precautions before you install motherboard components or change any motherboard settings.

  • Make sure to unplug the power cord before installing or removing the motherboard. Failure to do so may cause physical injuries to you and damages to motherboard components.
  • In order to avoid damage from static electricity to the motherboard's components, NEVER place your motherboard directly on a carpet. Also remember to use a grounded wrist strap or touch a safety grounded object before you handle the components.
  • Hold components by the edges and do not touch the ICs.
  • Whenever you uninstall any components, place them on a grounded anti-static pad or in the bag that comes with the components.
  • When placing screws to secure the motherboard to the chassis, please do not over-tighten the screws! Doing so may damage the motherboard.

2.1 Installing the CPU

Please refer to our User Manual in the support CD for the CPU installation guide.

2.2 Installing Memory Modules (DIMM)

This motherboard provides two 288-pin DDR4 (Double Data Rate 4) DIMM slots, and supports Dual Channel Memory Technology.

ASROCK X370M-HDV - Installing Memory Modules (DIMM) - 1

  1. For dual channel configuration, you always need to install identical (the same brand, speed, size and chip-type) DDR4 DIMM pairs.
  2. It is unable to activate Dual Channel Memory Technology with only one memory module installed.
  3. It is not allowed to install a DDR, DDR2 or DDR3 memory module into a DDR4 slot; otherwise, this motherboard and DIMM may be damaged.

CLRCMOS1 allows you to clear the data in CMOS. To clear and reset the system parameters to default setup, please turn off the computer and unplug the power cord from the power supply. After waiting for 15 seconds, use a jumper cap to short pin2 and pin3 on CLRCMOS1 for 5 seconds. However, please do not clear the CMOS right after you update the BIOS. If you need to clear the CMOS when you just finish updating the BIOS, you must boot up the system first, and then shut it down before you do the clear-CMOS action. Please be noted that the password, date, time, and user default profile will be cleared only if the CMOS battery is removed.

If you clear the CMOS, the case open may be detected. Please adjust the BIOS option "Clear Status" to clear the record of previous chassis intrusion status.

2.5 Onboard Headers and Connectors

ASROCK X370M-HDV - Onboard Headers and Connectors - 1

Onboard headers and connectors are NOT jumpers. Do NOT place jumper caps over these headers and connectors. Placing jumper caps over the headers and connectors will cause permanent damage to the motherboard.
