This appliance can be used by children of 8 years and older and by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or those lacking experience and knowledge, if they are supervised or have been instructed with regard to the safe use of the appliance and the ensuing risks. Chil- dren must not be allowed to play with the appli- ance. Cleaning and maintenance must not be carried out by children without supervision. People with very strong and complex restrictions may have needs that exceed the instructions de- scribed here.

NOTE Special instructions for ease of under- standing and handling. 3 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION Various models of pumps are described in these operating instructions. Identify your model from the identification plate.

The pump is intended for private use in house and garden. It must only be operated within the scope of its usage limitations in accordance with the technical data. The pump is suitable for:

Water removal in the event of a flood

Re-pumping and pumping out of vessels (e.g. swimming pools)

Water removal from streams and shafts

Emptying of drains and trickle shafts (DRAIN pump only). The pump is suited exclusively for the conveying of the following fluids:

Clear water, rainwater

Water containing chlorine (e.g. swimming pools)

Dirty water with max. 5% suspended matter and a grain size of max. 30mm diameter (DRAIN pump only). Any use not in accordance with this designated use shall be regarded as misuse.

3.2 Possible foreseeable misuse

The pump must not be operated continuously. It is not suitable for conveying:

Aggressive media, chemicals

Fluids that are hotter than 35 °C

Water containing sand and abrasive fluids (SUB pump only).

3.3 Safety and protective devices

WARNING! Risk of injury. Defective and disabled safety and protective devices can result in serious injury.

Have any defective safety and protective de- vices repaired.

Never disable safety and protective devices.

3.3.1 Thermal protection

The pump is equipped with a thermal protection switch which switches off the motor in the event of overheating. After a cooling down period of ap- prox. 15 - 20 minutes, the pump switches on again automatically. Operate the pump only when it is fully immersed.

3.3.2 Float switch (02)

The pump is switched on automatically by the float switch at a specific water level (ON height) (02/a), and switches off again when the water level falls to the OFF height (02/b). The float switch must be able to move freely on the surface of the water.

SUB 6500 / DRAIN 7000/7200/7500: The pump is delivered ready for operation with combination nipple, connecting bracket and operating instruc- tions. SUB 8500 / DRAIN 9500: The pump is delivered ready for operation with combination nipple and operating instructions. 4 SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS DANGER! Danger from contact with live parts! A defect in the pump or the extension ca- ble can result in serious injury!

Disconnect the connector plug from the mains immediately.

Connect the device via an earth leakage cir- cuit breaker with a rated leakage current of <30mA. CAUTION! Risk of burns from hot water! After extended use against the closed pressure side (>10min.), the water in the pump can be- come very hot and may escape uncontrolled!

Disconnect the pump from the mains supply and allow the pump and water to cool down.

Check the water level on the suction side.

Check the leak-tightness of the lines.

Check the installation of the suction and pressure lines.

Put the pump into operation again only after all the faults have been remedied!

Never lift, transport or affix the pump by the mains cable. Do not pull the mains cable in order to pull the mains plug out of the socket.

Unauthorised modifications or conversions to the pump are prohibited. Repairs may only be carried out by our customer service.

Disconnect the mains plug before working on the device. Protect the mains plug against moisture.

Only use the pump and extension cable if they are in flawless technical condition. Dam- aged appliances must not be operated.

Maintain a safe distance to persons or ani- mals or switch off the pump if animals ap- proach. Electrical safety

The pump may not be operated while people are in the pool or pond.

The mains voltage at your location must cor- respond to the information on the mains volt- age in the Technical Data. Do not use any other supply voltage.

The appliance must only be operated on electrical equipment in accordance with DIN/ VDE 0100, parts 737, 738 and 702. A circuit breaker of 10 A must be installed for fuse protection.

Only use an extension cords which are de- signed for outdoor use – minimum cross-sec- tion 3 x 1.5mm

Check the condition of you extension cable prior to every use. 5 INSTALLATION

5.1 Connecting the pressure line (01)

NOTE The combination nipple can be trimmed to suit the selected hose connection. Use the largest possible hose diameter.

1. SUB 6500 / DRAIN 7000/7200/7500: Screw

connection elbow (01/4) into pump outlet port (01/3). Screw combination nipple (01/2) into the connection elbow.

2. SUB 8500 / DRAIN 9500: Screw connection

elbow (01/2) into pump outlet port (01/3).

3. Connect hose to combination nipple.

4. Fasten mains cable (01/6) to the pressure

line using cable ties.

5. Unwind the mains cable completely.

6. Insert the mains plug into the power socket.

6 START-UP IMPORTANT! Risk of flooding! In the event of faults in the pump,water can escape and cause consequential damage due to flooding.

Take appropriate measures to avoid conse- quential damage caused by flooding in the event of faults in the pump. IMPORTANT! Danger of damage to the pump! If pressure lines are not completely drained, the pump cannot vent itself automatically and the pump may be damaged.

Before switching on again after removing from the shaft, ensure that the pressure line is completely drained.467769_i 15 Operation

Operate the pump suspended from a cable or pay attention to a stable position of the pump (upright or horizontal).

Operate the pump only when it is fully im- mersed.

Make sure there is adequate clearance under the pump.

Never allow the pump to run against a closed pressure line.

When using in shafts, make sure the size is adequate.

Always cover the shaft with a secure foot- plate. 7 OPERATION

7.1 Switching the pump on

IMPORTANT! Danger of damage to the pump! The pump must not draw in any solid ma- terial. Sand and other abrasive materials in the pumped medium will destroy the pump.

Ensure that no solids can enter the pumped medium. NOTE Use a suitable plate to ensure stable standing of the pump on muddy, sandy or stony ground.

1. Unwind the mains cable (01/6) completely.

2. Ensure that electrical plug connections are

located in the area safe from flooding.

3. Set the ON and OFF height (see chapter 7.2

"Setting the ON and OFF height", page15).

4. DRAIN 9500 only: Adjust the adjustable

pump foot (see chapter 7.3 "Adjusting the pump foot (DRAIN 9500)", page15).

5. Slowly immerse the pump in the pumped me-

dium, holding the immersion pump at a slight angle so that any trapped air can escape.

6. Insert the mains plug into the power socket.

7.2 Setting the ON and OFF height

The cable of the float switch (03/2) is clamped to cable clamp (03/1). The switching points of the float switch can be set individually by changing the clamping position. Recommended cable length on the float switch approx. 120 mm. SUB 8500 / DRAIN 9500 only: For continuous operation, the cable of float switch (03/2) can be connected to continuous operation terminal (03/3). IMPORTANT! Danger of damage to the pump! There is a danger during pumping out that the pump could run dry and cause equipment damage.

Monitor the pump continuously when pump- ing out to the residual water level and avoid the pump running dry.

Take the pump out of service when the resid- ual water level is reached by pulling out the mains plug. NOTE If the water drops below the residual water level, the pump will draw air in. In this case, the pump must be vented when the water level rises and before using it again.

7.3 Adjusting the pump foot (DRAIN 9500)

The size of the suction slots (01/8) can be re- duced using the adjustable pump foot (04/1). The water is then drawn off at a shallower level, coarser materials are no longer drawn in and the delivery rate is reduced.

Turn the adjustable pump foot in anti-clock- wise direction (04/a) to reduce the size of the suction slots.

Turn the adjustable pump foot in clockwise direction (04/b) to increase the size of the suction slots.

7.4 Switching the pump off

1. Remove the mains plug from the plug socket.

8 MAINTENANCE AND CARE

8.1 Cleaning the pump

NOTE After conveying swimming pool water containing chlorine or fluids that leave residues, the pump must be flushed out with clear water.

Storage NOTE In the event of faults that you cannot rectify, please contact our Customer Service de- partment. Malfunction Possible cause Remedy Engine does not start. Impeller blocked. Remove dirt from the suction area. Clean with a suitable tool through the opening on the back of the mo- tor housing. Thermal pro- tection switch has switched off. Wait until the thermal protec- tion switches on the pump again. Take note of the maximum tem- perature of the conveying medi- um. Have the pump inspected. No mains power. Check the fus- es, have the power supply checked by a qualified electri- cian. Float switch does not trip when the wa- ter level rises. Send the pump to an AL-KO service facility. Observe the max. feed head, see technical data! 10 STORAGE NOTE If there is the danger of frost, the sys- tem must be completely drained and the pump must be stored in a frost-proof place. 11 DISPOSAL Electrical and electronic appliances do not belong in household waste, but should be collected and disposed of separately. Packaging, equipment and accessories are made from recyclable materials, and must be disposed of accordingly. 12 AFTER-SALES/SERVICE In the event of questions of warranty, repair or spare parts, please contact your nearest AL- KOService Centre.
