Why is it important that we drink enough water?
The human body consists of approx. 60% water. Water acts as an important means of transport in our body; this is why it is important that we drink enough water. Our fluid balance ensures that blood flows in the body, the body temperature is regulated and toxins are expelled via urine. If we drink too little, our physical and mental performance is reduced and cramps, circulatory problems and headaches are more likely to occur.
The German Nutrition Society recommends the following standard values for water intake for young people and adults (with appropriate energy intake and average living conditions).
| Age | Water intake through | Water intake through drinks and solid food | |
