USER MANUAL SSTW100ED SONY
Welcome! Thank you for purchasing the Sony Super Tweeter System. Before using the system, please read this manual thoroughly and retain it for future reference. About This Manual The instructions in this manual are for the SS-TW100ED Super Tweeter System. Precautions On safety Should any liquid or solid object fall into the system, have the system checked by qualified personnel before operating it any further. On operation
- Do not drive the speaker system with a continuous wattage exceeding the maximum input power of the system.
- If the polarity of the speaker connections are not correct, the bass tones will be weak and the position of the various instruments obscure.
- Contact between bare speaker wires at the speaker terminals may result in a short-circuit.
- Before connecting, turn off the amplifier to avoid damaging the speaker system.
- Because the nominal impedance of the super-tweeter is 8 ohms, you should use an amplifier that has an 8-ohm load impedance speaker output.
- Use the super-tweeter in conjunction with the supplied network box to prevent damage to the unit.
- The super-tweeter grilles is not removable since the dome material is extremely fragile. If you attempt to remove the grille, you may damage the super-tweeter unit. On placement
- Do not place the speakers in an inclined position.
- Do not place the speakers in locations that are: — Extremely hot or cold — Dusty or dirty — Very humid — Subject to vibrations — Subject to direct sunlight On cleaning Clean the speaker system with a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild detergent solution or water. Do not use any type of abrasive pad, scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol or benzine. If you have any questions or problems concerning your speaker system, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.3
SS-TW100ED Features A super-tweeter for ultra-high frequency reproduction The SS-TW100ED is a super-tweeter with the capability to reproduce extremely high frequencies of up to 100 kHz, making it suitable for next-generation sound systems. Adjustable speaker angle for optimum effect Because of the high directivity of frequencies greater than 20 kHz, the super-tweeter can be laterally adjusted by up to ±15 degrees. Structually designed for ultra-high frequency reproduction
- A spherical aluminum housing for minimal sound diffraction
- A carbon-graphite composite hard-dome diaphragm for lightness and high rigidity High-quality network box as standard accessory The supplied network box allows you to make terminal selections without the signal degradation that normally occurs when selecting cut-off frequencies with a conventional switch. To obtain the best possible sound quality Positioning the super-tweeter
- Place the super-tweeter on the top of your speaker cabinet. The top of your speaker cabinet should be completely level.
- To ensure the proper time alignment of your speaker systems, position the super-tweeter unit so that it lies on the same line as the tweeter units in the speaker system that you are using. Adjusting the orientation Since high frequencies above 20 kHz have extreme directivity, the super-tweeter is designed to be laterally adjustable by up to ±15 degrees (though it is normally set at 0 degree), allowing you to direct it exactly towards the listening position.
Connecting to an amplifier Connect the input terminal on the super-tweeter to the SUPER TWEETER terminal on the supplied network box, and connect the INPUT terminal on the network box to the output terminal on the amplifier. INPUT
Selecting the cut-off frequency Select the cut-off frequency according to the specifications of the speaker system that you are using. With the super tweeter, you change the cut-off frequency by changing the INPUT terminal connection on the network box. Speaker cords (not supplied) The sound quality of the speaker system is largely determined by the quality of the speaker cords. Since the sound quality of the SS-TW100ED is especially sensitive to even slight differences in speaker cords, you should choose high-quality speaker cords that suit your personal taste. The speaker cords should be as large in diameter as possible and only as long as is necessary. You should also keep the speaker cords away from all AC power cords. Notes on connections
- The super-tweeter should be used in conjuction with the supplied network box to prevent damage the unit.
- The right and left speakers should be matched and connected with the (R) (right) and (L) (left) output terminals on the amplifier.
- The (+) and (–) input terminals on the speaker should be matched and connected to the (+) and (–) output terminals on the amplifier.
- Be sure the screws on the speaker terminals tight since loose screws will cause degradation in the sound quality, and perhaps noise as well.
- Make sure the cords are firmly connected to the terminals on the speaker, the network box, and the amplifier.
- Do not bend cords at acute angles (i.e., an angle of 90 degrees or less).
- Be careful not to connect a (+) terminal to a (–) terminal as this may result in a short-circuit. Super-tweeterNetwork box (supplied)Amplifier Red BlackRed RedRedRedBlackBlackBlack Red A: 20kHzB: 30kHzC: 40kHz5
