Dear customer Please familiarize yourself with the proper usage of the device by reading and following each chapter of this manual, in the order presented. Keep these operating instruc- tions for further reference. Please read all safety instructions! This manual contains important information on operating and handling the device. Keep these operating instructions for further reference. Please pass it on along with the unit if it is handed over to a third party.

1. Explanation of the symbols

The following symbols are used in the user manual or on the product: Warning! To reduce the risk of injury, the user must read the instruction manual. Denotes risk of personal injury, loss of life or damage to the tool in case of non-observance of the instructions in this manual. Risk of electric shock. Immediately remove the mains plug from the mains if the mains cable becomes damaged and during cleaning and maintenance. Always wear hearing protection. The effects of noise can cause hearing loss. Wear a dust mask. When working with wood and other materials, harmful dust may be generated. Work with asbestos containing materials is not permitted! Wear safety glasses. When working with electric power tools, sparks, splinters, chips and dust particles may be generated and these can cause loss of sight. Electric power tool, protection class II. This sign symbolises that this unit corresponds to Protection Class II. This means that the unit is equipped with either reinforced or double insulation between the mains circuit and output voltage or metal housing respectively. Variable speed control. CE stands for “Conformité Européenne”, which means “In accordance with EU Regulations”. With the CE marking, the manufacturer conrms that this Electric tool complies with the applicable European directives. Do not dispose of electric power tools with domestic refuse.

2. General safety instructions for

power tools WARNING! Read all instructions! Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, re and/or serious injury. The term “power tool” in all of the warnings listed below refers to your mains operated (corded) power tool or battery operated (cordless) power tool. Save these instructions for future reference!

a. Keep work area clean and well lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents. b. Do not operate power tools in explo- sive atmospheres, such as in the pres- ence of flammable liquids, gasses or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust of fumes. c. Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distrac- tions can cause you to lose control.

2.2 Electrical safety

a. Power tool plugs must match the out- let. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs which earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodied plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock. b. Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock. d. Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplug- ging the power tool. Keep cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock. e. When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. f. Always use tool in conjunction with a residual circuit breaker device. The use of a residual circuit breaker device reduces the risk of electric shock.

a. Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operat- ing a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medica- tion. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury. b. Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce per- sonal injuries. c. Avoid accidental starting. Ensure the switch is in the off position before plugging in. Carrying power tools with your nger on the switch or plugging in power tools that have the switch on invites accidents. d. Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotat- ing part of the power tool may result in personal injury. e. Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unex- pected situations. f. Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts. g. If devices are provided for the connec- tion of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. The use of these pieces of equipment reduce hazards caused by dust.

2.4 Power tool use and care

a. Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your applica- tion. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed. b. Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired. c. Disconnect the plug from the power source before making any adjust- ments, changing accessories, or stor- ing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally. d. Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users. e. Maintain power tools. Check for mis- alignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condi- tion that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many acci- dents are caused by poorly maintained power tools. f. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control. g. instructions and in the manner intended for the particular type of power tool, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from intended could result in a hazardous situation.

a. Please use a qualied expert who uses original replacement parts to repair your power tool. This will ensure proper functioning of the power tool.

3. Additional safety instructions for

• Do not work materials containing asbestos. Asbestos is considered carcinogenic.

• Wear safety goggles, hearing protection and if necessary other protective means, such as safety gloves, safety shoes, etc.

Before use, remove all nails and other metal objects from the workpiece.

• Make sure that the workpiece is prop- erly supported or xed.

• Do not use the machine without the guard.

• Inspect the saw blade before each use. Do not use saw blades which are bent, cracked, or otherwise damaged.

• Make sure that the saw blade is prop- erly mounted.

• Only use saw blades that are suitable for use with the machine.

• Only use saw blades with the correct dimensions.

• Do not use other accessories than saw blades.

• Do not use saw blades made of HSS steel.

• Do not use the machine on workpieces requiring a maximum sawing depth that exceeds the maximum sawing depth of the saw blade.

• Hold the machine by the insulated grip- ping surfaces where the saw blade may contact hidden wiring or the mains cable. If the saw blade contacts a ‘live‘ wire, the exposed metal parts of the machine can also become ‘live‘. Risk of electric shock.

• Let the machine run at no load in a safe area after mounting the saw blade. If the machine vibrates strongly, immedi- ately switch off the machine, remove the mains plug from the mains, and try to solve the problem.

• Beware that the saw blade continues to rotate for a short period after switching off the machine. Do not attempt to bring the saw blade to a standstill yourself.

Kickback is the upward and backward movement of the saw blade when the saw blade unexpectedly touches an object. Securely hold the machine during use. Keep your attention focused on the operation. Kickback is usually caused by:

• unintentionally touching hard objects or materials with the rotating saw blade;

• a saw blade that is not properly mounted;

• sawing into a previous cut;

• a lack of attention to the operation;

4. Electrical safety

Always check that the voltage of the power supply corresponds to the voltage on the rating plate.

• Do not use the machine if the mains cable or the mains plug is damaged.

• Only use extension cables that are suit- able for the power rating of the machine with a minimum thickness of 1.5 mm

If you use a extension cable reel, always fully unroll the cable.

5. Before the rst use

6. Contents of packing

The jig saw is intended for split cuts and cutouts in wood, plastic and rubber. The jig saw can be used for straight and curved cuts at 0° to 45°.

8. Inserting the saw blade

Always disconnect the main power plug prior to performing any work on the machine. Use only T-shank jig saw blades.

8.2 Pull the lever of the blade clamp and

slide the saw blade into the groove as far as it will go with the blade teeth pointing forward. Make sure that the lug of the blade tted into the blade clamp, then release blade clamp lever (17), check the blade held rmly.

8.3 Place the transparent blade cover to

initial position. Attention: After a cut, the saw blade will be very hot because of the friction. Be careful when removing the saw blade. Protect your- self by wearing appropriate protective gloves.

9.1 Insert the mains plug into the socket.

The LED indicator light (14) lights up and indicates that power is applied.

9.2 To turn on the pendulum stroke jig saw,

press the ON/OFF switch (3). The switch can be set to continuous mode by pressing the power on lock (2).

9.3 Pressing the ON/OFF switch (3) again

returns the power on lock (2) to the starting position.

9.4 To turn off the pendulum stroke jig saw,

release the ON/OFF switch.

Take note of the line voltage. The voltage of the power source must match the informa- tion on the type label on the machine. 220 V~ – 240 V~ can also be operated with 230 V~ units.

• Before switching on of the jig saw, the front of the base plate (8) must lie flat on the workpiece. Make sure that the base plate rests securely on the entire surface.

• Always hold the jig saw rmly with both hands. Make sure that the saw blade is not in contact with the workpiece before the jig saw is turned on.

• Make sure that the saw blade has com- pletely stopped before removing the jig saw from the workpiece.

11. Stroke rate selection

You can adjust the stroke rate with the stroke rate controller (1). The required stroke rate of the saw blade is dependent on the material and the saw blade used, and should be determined by practical tests. Material Stroke adjustment Wood . . . . . . . . . . 5 — 6 Soft steel . . . . . . . .

12. The diagonal cut

Do not set the mitre angle during use.

• Slacken the Allen screws (III) using the Allen key (II).

• Tilt the saw shoe (I) to the required position.

switch The pendulum action switch is used to set the way in which the teeth of the saw blade grip the material. The pendulum action switch can be set to 4 positions. Do not set the pendulum position during use. Turn the pendulum action switch (9) to required position according to the material to be worked. Refer to the table below to select the required position. The saw is equipped with a changeover switch for dust removal (7).

14.1 Set the switch to II to open the dust

outlet. The dust is thus blown away, which improves the visibility of the cut- ting line.

14.2 Set the switch to I to close the outlet.

When connecting a vacuum cleaner (see next chapter), set the switch to the I position.

This jig saw is a powerful tool that can pro- duce a lot of sawdust. By connecting the jig saw to a vacuum cleaner, a clean dust-free operation is possible. Do not use dust extraction when cutting metal. Dust extraction is not possible for mitre cuts.

15.1 Slide the dust nozzle (6) all the way into

the opening until the snap-in nose visi- bly and audibly locks into place.

15.2 Connect the dust nozzle (6) with a vac-

uum cleaner or dust extractor. When sawing wood, it is best to use an additional dust protection mask since wood dust is a health hazard.

16. The parallel stop

To cut parallel to a wood edge, you can use the enclosed parallel stop (15).

16.1 In order to x the parallel stop (15),

loosen the fastening screws (11) slightly. Using the centimetre scale on the parallel stop (15), you can adjust the distance between the stop bar and the saw blade. 7062849-Jig_Saw_800W-Ma-1803-09.indb 8 22-03-18 11:079 English

16.2 Secure the parallel stop by tightening

the fastening screws (11) in the desired position. When not using the parallel stop, tighten the fastening screws (11) securely. The screws can be unscrewed and fall off due to the vibration of sawing.

17.1 Safety instructions for the laser cut-

ting guide a. Do not point the laser beam at persons or animals and do not look into the laser beam. This laser emits a laser beam that falls under laser class 2 in accordance with EN 60825-1:2014. You could blind people with it. b. A laser is not a toy and does not belong in the hands of children. Using it incorrectly may result in irreparable damage to the eyes. c. It is forbidden to manipulate the laser so as to increase its power in any way. No liability will be assumed for any damages caused as the result of fail- ure to comply with these safety instructions. d. The laser does not contain any ser- viceable parts. Therefore, do not open the housing. Otherwise, you will ren- der the warranty void. e. Warning! Do not swap the laser with another type of laser. Only the manu- facturer of the laser or an authorised representative may perform repairs. f. Do not point the laser beam towards highly reflective surfaces. g. Do not insert any hard objects in the laser optics. h. Clean the laser optics with a soft, dry cloth.

The beam line of the laser is available to assist in making straight cuts. You can either cut along the projected line or point the laser beam at a xed point on the work piece and then cut.

18.1 To switch the laser on, push the On/Off

switch (13) for the laser.

18.2 To switch the laser off, push the On/Off

switch (13) for the laser again.

19. Tips for cutting

• Clamp the workpiece. Use a clamping device for small workpieces.

• Draw a line to dene the direction in which to guide the saw blade.

• Firmly hold the machine by the grip.

• Set the sawing speed.

• Switch on the machine.

• Wait until the machine has reached full speed.

• Place the saw shoe on the workpiece.

• Slowly move the machine along the pre-drawn line, rmly pressing the saw shoe against the workpiece.

• Do not apply too much pressure on the machine. Let the machine do the work.

• Switch off the machine and wait for the machine to come to a complete stand- still before putting the machine down.

20. Cleaning and maintenance

• To avoid injury always pull the power plug before maintaining or cleaning the machine.

• Clean the machine with a moist cloth.

• If the machine is very dirty use a mild detergent or soap on the cloth. Other cleaning agents may contain chemical substances which may damage the plastic parts of the machine.

• Do not allow liquids to enter the machine and do not immerse the machine in liquids of any kind.

• Repairs, inspections of the interior of the machine, adjustments and replace- ment of the carbon brushes may only be undertaken by a professional. Only identical replacement parts may be used! For further information please contact our customer service department.

• If increased brush re occurs this indi- cates that the carbon brushes are worn and should be replaced. Have the brushes replaced by a professional.

The vibration emission level stated in this instruction manual has been measured in accordance with a standardised test given in EN 60745; it may be used to compare one tool with another and as a preliminary assessment of exposure to vibration when using the tool for the applications mentioned

• using the tool for different applications, or with different or poorly maintained accessories, may signicantly increase the exposure level

• the times when the tool is switched off or when it is running but not actually doing the job, may signicantly reduce the exposure level Protect yourself against the effects of vibra- tion by maintaining the tool and its accesso- ries, keeping your hands warm, and organiz- ing your work patterns.

Do not dispose of electric power tools with domestic refuse. The electric power tool is shipped in packaging to reduce transport damage. This packaging is a raw material and as such can either be reused or can be fed back into the raw material cycle. The elec- tric power tool and its accessories are made from various materials such as met- als and plastics. Take defective compo- nents to a special refuse collection point. Ask about these at your specialist shop or local council.
