General safety information for power tools WARNING Read all the safety information, instructions, illustrations and technical data provided on or with this power tool. Failure to adhere to the following instructions may result in electric shock, fi re and/or serious injury. Keep all the safety information and instruc- tions in a safe place for future use. The term „power tool“ used in the safety informati- on and instructions refers to power tools operated from the mains power supply (with a power cable) and to battery operated power tools (without a power cable).

a) Keep your work area clean and well illu- minated. Untidy or unlit work areas can result in accidents. b) Do not operate the electric tool in an en- vironment where there is a risk of explo- sions and where there are infl ammable liquids, gases or dust. Electric tools produ- ce sparks which could set the dust or vapours alight. c) Keep children and other people away from the power tool while you are using it. If you are distracted you may lose control of the power tool.

2. Electrical safety

a) The connector plug from this electric tool must fi t into the socket. The plug should never be altered in any way. Never use ad- apter plugs together with earthed electric tools. Unaltered plugs and correct sockets reduce the risk of an electric shock. b) Avoid bodily contact with earthed sur- faces such as pipes, heating, ovens and fridges. The risk of electric shock is increa- sed if your body is earthed. c) Keep the tool out of the rain and away from moisture. The ingress of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock. d) Do not use the power cable for a purpose for which it is not designed, for example to carry the power tool, hang it up or to pull the plug out of the socket. Keep the power cable away from heat, oil, sharp edges and moving parts. Power cables that are damaged or tangled increase the risk of an electric shock. e) If you use an electric power tool out- doors, use only extension cables that are suitable for outdoor use. The use of an extension cable which is suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of an electric shock. f) If operation of the electric tool in a damp environment can not be avoided, use a earth-leakage circuit-breaker. All mainte- nance work on rechargeable batteries should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized after sales service outlets. Additional safety instructions We pay a great deal of attention to the design of every battery pack to ensure that we supply you with batteries which feature maximum power den- sity, durability and safety. The battery cells have a wide range of safety devices. Each individual cell is initially formatted and its electrical charac- teristic curves are recorded. These data are then used exclusively to be able to assemble the best possible battery packs. Despite all the safety precautions, caution must always be exer- cised when handling batteries. The following points must be obeyed at all times to ensure safe use. Safe use can only be guaranteed if undama- ged cells are used. Incorrect handling can cause cell damage. Important: Analyses confi rm that incorrect use and poor care are the main causes of the damage caused by high performance batteries. Information about the battery

1. The battery pack supplied with your cordless

tool is not charged. The battery pack has to be charged before you use the tool for the fi rst time.

2. For optimum battery performance avoid low

discharge cycles. Charge the battery pack frequently.

3. Store the battery pack in a cool place, ideally

at 15°C and charged to at least 40%.

4. Lithium-ion batteries are subject to a natural

ageing process. The battery pack must be replaced at the latest when its capacity falls to just 80% of its capacity when new. Weakened cells in an aged battery pack are no longer capable of meeting the high power require- ments and therefore pose a safety risk.

5. Do not throw battery packs into an open fi re.

There is a risk of explosion!

6. Do not ignite the battery pack or expose it to

7. Do not exhaustively discharge batteries.

Exhaustive discharge will damage the battery cells. The most common cause of exhaustive discharge is lengthy storage or non-use of partly discharged batteries. Stop working as soon as the performance of the battery falls noticeably or the electronic protection system triggers. Place the battery pack in storage only after it has been fully charged.

8. Protect batteries and the tool from over-

loads. Overloads will quickly result in over- heating and cell damage inside the battery housing without this overheating actually being apparent externally.

9. Avoid damage and shocks. Replace batte-

ries which have been dropped from a height of more than one meter or which have been exposed to violent shocks without delay, even if the housing of the battery pack appears to be undamaged. The battery cells inside the battery may have suff ered serious damage. In this respect, please also read the waste disposal information.

10. If the battery pack suff ers overloading and

overheating, the integrated protective cut-off will switch off the equipment for safety rea- sons. Important. Do not press the ON/OFF switch any more if the protective cut-off has actuated. This may damage the battery pack.

warm. Allow the battery pack to cool to room temperature before commencing with the charging.

7. Do not over-charge batteries. Do not ex-

ceed the maximum charging times. These charging times only apply to discharged batteries. Frequent insertion of a charged or partly charged battery pack will result in over-charging and cell damage. Do not leave batteries in the charger for days on end.

8. Never use or charge batteries if you sus-

pect that the last time they were charged was more than 12 months previously. The- re is a high probability that the battery pack has already suff ered dangerous damage (exhaustive discharge).

9. Charging batteries at a temperature below

10°C will cause chemical damage to the cell and may cause a fi re.

10. Do not use batteries which have heated du-

ring the charging process, as the battery cells may have suff ered dangerous damage.

11. Do not use batteries which have suff ered

curvature or deformation during the charging process or which show other non-typical sym- ptoms (gassing, hissing, cracking,…)

12. Never fully discharge the battery pack (re-

commended depth of discharge max. 80%) A complete discharge of the battery pack will lead to premature ageing of the battery cells.

13. Never charge the batteries unsupervised.

Protection from environmental infl uences

Safety Information for all Applications a) This electric tool is designed for use as a grinder/sander and cutting-off machine. Obey all the safety instructions, general instructions, illustrations and data sup- plied with the tool. If you fail to obey the fol- lowing instructions, you may suff er an electric shock, fi re and/or serious injuries. b) This electric tool is not designed for sanding, working with wire brushes or polishing. Use of the electric tool in ways it was not intended could lead to dangerous situations and injuries. c) Do not convert this power tool to operate in a way which is not specifi cally desig- ned and specifi ed by the tool manufactu- rer. Such a conversion may result in a loss of control and cause serious personal injury. d) Do not use accessories which are not specifi cally designed and specifi ed by the tool manufacturer. Just because the ac- cessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation. e) The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can break and fl y apart. f) The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the ca- pacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately gu- arded or controlled. g) The dimensions of the accessory moun- ting must fi t the dimensions of the moun- ting hardware of the power tool. Accesso- ries that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will run out of balance, vibra- te excessively and may cause loss of control. h) Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, ba- cking pad for cracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires. If power tool or accessory is dropped, ins- pect for damage or install an undamaged accessory. After inspecting and installing an accessory, position yourself and by- standers away from the plane of the rota- ting accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.

i) Wear personal protective equipment.

Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping fl ying debris generated by various applications. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of fi lt- rating particles generated by the particular application. Prolonged exposure to high in- tensity noise may cause hearing loss. j) Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of workpiece or of a broken accessory may fl y away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation. k) Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performing an ope- ration where the cutting accessory may contact hidden wiring. Cutting accessory contacting a „live“ wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool „live“ and could give the operator an electric shock. l) Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop. The spinning accessory may grab the surface and pull the power tool out of your control. m) Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body. n) Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. The motor’s fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of pow- dered metal may cause electrical hazards. o) Do not operate the power tool near fl am- mable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials. p) Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or other liquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock. Further safety instructions for all operations Kickback and related warnings: Kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched or snagged rotating wheel, backing pad, brush or any other accessory. Pinching or snagging cau- ses rapid stalling of the rotating accessory which in turn causes the uncontrolled power tool to be forced in the direction opposite of the accessory’s rotation at the point of the binding. For example, if an abrasive wheel is snagged or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the wheel that is entering into the pinch point can dig into the surface of the material causing the wheel to climb out or kick out. The wheel may eit- her jump toward or away from the operator, depending on direction of the wheel’s movement at the point of pinching. Abrasive wheels may also break under these conditions. Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below. a) Maintain a fi rm grip with both hands on the power tool and position your body and arms to allow you to resist kickback forces. Always use auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kick- back or torque reaction during start-up. The operator can control torque reactions or kickback forces, if proper precautions are taken. b) Never place your hand near the rotating accessory. Accessory may kickback over your hand. c) Do not position your body in the area where power tool will move if kickback occurs. Kickback will propel the tool in direc- tion opposite to the wheel’s movement at the point of snagging. d) Use special care when working corners, sharp edges, etc. Avoid bouncing and snagging the accessory. Corners, sharp edges or bouncing have a tendency to snag the rotating accessory and cause loss of con- trol or kickback. e) Do not attach a saw chain woodcarving blade, segmented diamond wheel with a peripheral gap greater than 10 mm or toothed saw blade. Such blades create fre- quent kickback and loss of control. Additional safety instructions for grinding and cutting-off operations Safety warnings specifi c for grinding and cutting-off operations: a) Use only wheel types that are specifi ed for your power tool and the specifi c guard designed for the selected wheel. Wheels for which the power tool was not designed cannot be adequately guarded and are unsa- fe. b) The grinding surface of centre depressed wheels must be mounted below the plane of the guard lip. An improperly mounted wheel that projects through the plane of the guard lip cannot be adequately protected. c) The guard must be securely attached to the power tool and positioned for maxi- mum safety, so the least amount of wheel is exposed towards the operator. The guard helps to protect the operator from bro- ken wheel fragments, accidental contact with wheel and sparks that could ignite clothing. d) Wheels must be used only for specifi ed applications. For example: do not grind with the side of cut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheels are intended for peripheral grinding, side forces applied to these wheels may cause them to shatter. e) Always use undamaged wheel fl anges that are of correct size and shape for your selected wheel. Proper wheel fl anges sup- port the wheel thus reducing the possibility of wheel breakage. Flanges for cut-off wheels may be diff erent from grinding wheel fl anges. f) Do not use worn down wheels from larger power tools. A wheel intended for larger po- wer tool is not suitable for the higher speed of a smaller tool and may burst. g) When using dual purpose wheels always use the correct guard for the application being performed. Failure to use the correct guard may not provide the desired level of guarding, which could lead to serious injury. Additional safety instructions for cutting-off operations Additional safety warnings specifi c for cut- ting-off operations: a) Do not “jam” the cut-off wheel or apply excessive pressure. Do not attempt to make an excessive depth of cut. Over- stressing the wheel increases the loading and susceptibility to twisting or binding of the wheel in the cut and the possibility of kick- back or wheel breakage. Anl_DT_AG_18_125_3_Li_SPK7_PRINT.indb 145Anl_DT_AG_18_125_3_Li_SPK7_PRINT.indb 145 12.11.2024 10:18:5712.11.2024 10:18:57GB

b) Do not position your body in line with and behind the rotating wheel. When the wheel, at the point of operation, is moving away from your body, the possible kickback may propel the spinning wheel and the power tool directly at you. c) When the wheel is binding or when in- terrupting a cut for any reason, switch off the power tool and hold it motionless until the wheel comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the cut-off wheel from the cut while the wheel is in motion otherwise kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective action to eliminate the cause of wheel binding. d) Do not restart the cutting operation in the workpiece. Let the wheel reach full speed and carefully re-enter the cut. The wheel may bind, walk up or kickback if the power tool is restarted in the workpiece. e) Support panels or any oversized workpie- ce to minimize the risk of wheel pinching and kickback. Large workpieces tend to sag under their own weight. Supports must be placed under the workpiece near the line of cut and near the edge of the workpiece on both sides of the wheel. f) Use extra caution when making a “pocket cut” into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding wheel may cut gas or water pipes, electrical wiring or objects that can cause kickback. g) Do not attempt to do curved cutting. Over- stressing the wheel increases the loading and susceptibility to twisting or binding of the wheel in the cut and the possibility of kick- back or wheel breakage, which can lead to serious injury.

and the battery pack to our customer service center. To ensure that items are properly packaged and delivered when you send them to us, please contact our customer service or the point of sale at which the equipment was purchased. When shipping or disposing of batteries and cordless tools, always ensure that they are packed individually in plastic bags to prevent short circuits and fi res. To ensure that the battery pack provides long ser- vice, you should take care to recharge it promptly. You must recharge the battery pack when you notice that the performance of the device drops. Never allow the battery pack to become fully di- scharged. This will cause it to develop a defect. Press the battery capacity indicator switch (a). The battery capacity indicator (9) shows the char- ge status of the battery using 3 LEDs. All 3 LEDs are lit: The battery is fully charged. 2 or 1 LED(s) are lit: The battery has an adequate remaining charge. 1 LED blinks: The battery is empty, recharge the battery. All LEDs blink: The battery temperature is too low. Remove the battery from the equipment, keep it at room tem- perature for one day. If the fault reoccurs, this me- ans that the rechargeable battery has undergone exhaustive discharge and is defective. Remove the battery from the equipment. Never use or charge a defective battery.

6.3 Switching on (Fig. 4)

To switch on, push the On/Off switch (2) forwards and press it down. To switch off the angle grinder, press down the On/Off switch (2) at the back. The On/Off switch (2) will jump back into its starting position. Important! The equipment will switch to “Standby Mode” af- ter 10 minutes of non-use. To reactivate: Switch on the equipment twice or press the battery capacity indicator. “Standby Mode” protects the battery. Important! Following a stoppage (due to overloading), the cordless equipment will start up again automati- cally. Wait until the machine has reached its top speed. You can then position the angle grin- der on the workpiece and machine it.

6.4 Changing the grinding wheels (Fig. 5 / 6)

Use the face spanner (5) supplied to change the grinding wheels. The face spanner (5) is stored in the additional handle (3). Pull the face spanner (5) out of the additional handle (3) when you need it. Danger! For safety reasons, the angle grinder must not be operated with the face spanner (5) inserted in it. Warning!

Simple wheel change by spindle lock:

Press the spindle lock and allow the grinding wheel to latch in place.

Open the flange nut with the face spanner. (Fig. 6)

Change the grinding or cutting wheel and tighten the flange nut with the face spanner. Notice! Only ever press the spindle lock when the motor and grinding spindle are at a stand- still! You must keep the spindle lock pressed while you change the wheel! For grinding or cutting wheels up to approx. 3 mm thick, screw on the fl ange nut with the fl at side facing the grinding or cutting wheel.

6.5 Flange arrangements when using

grinding wheels and cutting wheels (Fig. 7-10)

It is vital for the motor to be well ventilated during operation. Be sure, therefore, to keep the ventilati- on holes clean at all times.

Never use a grinding or cutting wheel bigger than the specified diameter.

Before using a grinding or cutting wheel, check its rated speed.

The maximum speed of the grinding or cut- ting wheel used must be higher than the idle speed of the angle grinder.

Use only grinding and cutting wheels that are approved for a minimum speed of 8,500 rpm and a peripheral speed of 56 m/sec.

the direction in which the tool rotates. Take special care that the grinding/sanding wheels are properly stored and transported. Ensure that the grinding/sanding wheels are never exposed to shock, jolts or sharp edges (for example during transport or storage in a toolbox). This could cause damage (such as cracks) to the grinding/sanding wheels and place the user in serious danger. Warning!

Caution: Use the safety device for san- ding/grinding (included in items supplied). For the best rough grinding results, hold the grin- ding wheel at an angle of between 30° and 40° to the workpiece surface and guide back and forth over the workpiece in steady movements.

6.8.2 Cutting (Fig. 12)

Caution: Use the safety device for abrasi- ve cutting (available as accessory, see 7.3) When you use the right-angle grinder for cutting purposes, avoid tilting it in the cutting plane. The cutting wheel must have a clean cutting edge. A diamond cutting wheel is best used to cut hard stone. It is prohibited to use the machine on as- bestos materials! Never use a cutting wheel for rough grin- ding. Important! To increase the cutting performance and running time of the cordless equipment, we recommend that you use a cutting wheel with a thickness of 1 mm.

7. Cleaning, maintenance and

ordering of spare parts Danger! Always pull out the battery pack before starting any cleaning work.

Keep all safety devices, air vents and the motor housing free of dirt and dust as far as possible. Wipe the equipment with a clean cloth or blow it with compressed air at low pressure.

We recommend that you clean the device immediately each time you have finished using it.

Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and some soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents; these could at- tack the plastic parts of the equipment. Ensu- re that no water can seep into the device. The ingress of water into an electric tool increases the risk of an electric shock.

There are no parts inside the equipment which require additional maintenance.

7.3 Ordering replacement parts:
