1 Glass lid handle: Always use the handle to open or close the glass lid (2). This makes it easier to handle and prevents burns. 2 Glass lid: Cover the ceramic pan (4) with the glass lid (2) to cook your food slowly. 3 Ceramic pan handles: Always use these handles to move or carry the ceramic pan (4) when it is hot.SilverCrest SSC 200 D1
The ceramic pan handles can get very hot. Wear oven gloves if necessary. 4 Ceramic pan: The slow cooker cooking insert is made of ceramics. It is neutral in taste, easy to clean and food is cooked gently. 5 Power indicator: This lights up when the slow cooker is switched to Low, Medium or High levels. It goes out when the control dial (7) is moved to the Off position (slow cooker switched off). The power indicator merely indicates that there is an operating voltage supply to the device and the heating element is working. 6 Carry handles: Use these carry handles to move or carry the slow cooker. 7 Control dial: The slow cooker has three heat levels (Low, Medium and High) which you can select using this dial. Select Off to switch the slow cooker off. 8 Heater unit: The heater unit warms the ceramic pan (4) and its contents. It is connected to the power network and has a control panel in order to control the cooking process. 9 Non-slip feet: The non-slip feet ensure a stable footing and prevent the slow cooker slipping on the surface. 10 Power cord: This supplies the slow cooker with power.
You need to fill the ceramic pan (4) with at least 1 litre of ingredients, including liquid. Always use at least 1 cup of liquid. Otherwise, the device can overheat and cause a fire or damage to equipment.
Fill the ceramic pan (4) with no more than 3.0 litres of ingredients, including liquid. Otherwise, the contents can boil over and cause burns or damage to equipment.
You can achieve best results by adding between 1.5 to 2 litres of ingredients, including liquid, into the ceramic pan (4). This means the ceramic pan (4) is around half full.
Beans and hard vegetables like potatoes or carrots should always be covered with liquid for cooking.
Slow cooking cooks ingredients gently and healthily below boiling point. This allows the dish to release its full flavour without sticking or the liquid boiling away. But slow cooking requires very long cooking times, sometimes several hours. But the long cooking time makes even tough, firm meat tender. Legumes such as peas, lentils and beans and hard vegetables like carrots, potatoes and turnips are also excellent when prepared in the slow cooker. Dishes like soups and stews are not only given an excellent consistency, they also taste wonderful. Below are a few tips and tricks you should bear in mind when cooking with the slow cooker: Danger!
Beans are toxic when raw. You need to cook beans for sufficient time on HIGH before they are edible.
Red beans contain a toxic protein which is only broken down at very high temperatures. Using the slow cooker is not sufficient. Red beans must be pre-cooked for 10 minutes in boiling water before putting them in the slow cooker.
Poultry must be fully cooked before eating to avoid the risk of salmonella poisoning. General recommendations: You can achieve best results by adding between 1.5 to 2 litres of ingredients, including liquid, into the ceramic pan (4). This means the ceramic pan (4) is around half full. Defrost frozen ingredients before preparing them in the slow cooker. Otherwise, they may not cook through properly because of the low cooking temperature. If there is a lot of liquid in the ceramic pan (4) at the end of the cooking process, remove the glass lid (2) and switch the control dial (7) to the HIGH position. This allows the liquid to evaporate better. The slow cooker is not suitable for heating food. The slow cooker is not suitable for frying food. Vegetables, beans and legumes: Chop hard vegetables into even pieces which are not too large. Beans and hard vegetables like potatoes or carrots should always be covered with liquid for cooking. Hard vegetables take slightly longer to cook than meat. So put the vegetables into the ceramic pan (4) first so they stay at the bottom.SilverCrest SSC 200 D1
If you wish to prepare beans together with other vegetables (e.g. potatoes or carrots), pre-boil the beans the day before and allow them to stand overnight. Then all you need to do is add the other vegetables and finish cooking the dish. Essentially, you can prepare all the ingredients the previous day, add them to the ceramic pan (4), cover and leave to stand cold. The next day, all you need to do is place the ceramic pan (4) on the heater unit (8) and cook the dish. Peas, lentils and other legumes should be soaked overnight and the water poured away before you prepare the dish with fresh water. Soups and stews: When preparing soups and stews, do not fill the ceramic pan (4) beyond 3 or 4 cm below the top. Otherwise, it is easy to spill the liquid when removing the ceramic pan (4) from the heater unit (8). Meat: Cut the meat into even-sized pieces. Put the larger pieces underneath and smaller pieces on top in the ceramic pan (4). Before cooking, remove excess fat from the meat. Otherwise, the fat is retained because of the low cooking temperature in the slow cooker and the meat can be very fatty. For some meat dishes such as roulades or goulash, you need to seal the meat before putting it in the slow cooker. This gives it a better flavour and makes it crisper. For poultry and larger pieces of meat, use a cooking thermometer to check the core temperature and ensure it is cooked through. If this is not possible, take a piece of meat out of the ceramic pan (4) and cut through it to check it is cooked. It is recommended that you pierce sausages to prevent them bursting. Dairy products, pasta and fish: Dairy products, pasta and fish break down or flake when cooked in the slow cooker. Only add these ingredients once the cooking process is complete for the other ingredients.
8.4 Switching on / Selecting the power level
1. Fill the ceramic pan (4) as described in the "Filling the ceramic pan" section and place it on the
heater unit (8). Warning! Make sure the power cord (10) is not in your working area. Otherwise, you could accidentally pull on it and tip it over or make the slow cooker fall off the work surface.
3. Turn the control dial (7) to the position you want: LOW (lowest setting), MEDIUM (medium setting)
or HIGH (highest setting). The power indicator (5) lights up and the device begins heating up. Leave the glass lid (2) closed during cooking where possible. Every time you open the glass lid (2), the cooking time gets longer. Risk of burns! The glass lid (2) and ceramic pan (4) get very hot when the slow cooker is in use. Be careful not to burn yourself. Wear oven gloves if necessary.
4. Towards the end of the cooking time, check that the ingredients are properly cooked. If not, allow
them to cook a little longer.
8.4.1 Recommended cooking times
The table below sets out the recommended cooking times for various foods. Please note that these are guidelines only. The actual cooking time depends on the size and freshness of the food, the amount in the ceramic pan (4) and your personal taste. Unless your recipe specifies otherwise, we recommend adding about 1 litre of water or other liquid for 1 kg of food to be cooked. For larger or smaller pieces of food, adjust the quantity of water/other liquid to ensure that the food is covered. Ingredient Heat setting Cooking time Remarks Pork MEDIUM* approx. 5 hours Beef MEDIUM* approx. 6 hours Poultry MEDIUM* approx. 5 hours Hard vegetables (potatoes, carrots, etc.) HIGH approx. 5 to 6 hours Green peas MEDIUM* approx. 5 hours White beans HIGH Dried beans should be left to soak overnight. Ingredient Heat setting Cooking time Remarks Red beans HIGH Dried beans should be left to soak overnight. DANGER! Red beans contain a toxic protein which is only broken down at very high temperatures. Using the slow cooker is not sufficient. Red beans must be pre-cooked for 10 minutes in boiling water before putting them in the slow cooker.
- The cooking time is extended by around 2 hours on the LOW setting and reduced by around 1.5 hours on the HIGH setting.
8.5 Switching off / Removing the ceramic pan
Risk of burns! The glass lid (2) and ceramic pan (4) get very hot when the slow cooker is in use. Be careful not to burn yourself. Wear oven gloves if necessary.
1. Once your food is cooked, you can move the control dial (7) back to the OFF position to switch the
2. Unplug the power cord plug from the wall socket.
3. Remove the ceramic pan (4) from the heater unit (8). Wear oven gloves so you do not get burnt.
4. Serve your dish. If you are serving directly from the ceramic pan (4), use a heat-resistant base to
prevent damage to the table.

Set the Slow Cooker to LOW and add the fried vegetables, onions and belly pork to the Slow Cooker. Add the diced potatoes and the peas and top up with the warm stock. Add the dried marjoram. Stir well and close the glass lid (2). After around 5 hours, add the sliced Frankfurters (or around 4 hours on the “HIGH” setting). Alternatively, after the 6 hour cooking time, add the sausages and allow the stew to cook for another 30 minutes. Season the stew with salt and pepper and add the finely chopped parsley just before serving.
Method: Wash the pork fillet and pat dry, removing any fat and sinew where necessary. Cut the meat into approx. 2 cm pieces and wrap with 1-2 rashers of bacon. In a pan, heat the butter and fry the pieces of meat on all sides until they are golden brown. Set the slow cooker to “MEDIUM” and spread the sealed pieces of meat over the base of the pan. In a bowl, mix the cream, tomato purée, garlic, tomatoes, ketchup, paprika, cayenne pepper, rosemary, thyme, basil, salt and pepper and mix well. Pour this mixture over the meat and close the glass lid (2). Allow the fillet stew to cook for approx. 5 hours on the “MEDIUM” setting.
After use, clean the slow cooker as described in the "Maintenance / cleaning" section below. If food residues solidify in the ceramic pan (4), they become difficult to remove. Then store the slow cooker in a safe, dry place away from dust.
