Power supply

• Only use this unit according to the intended purpose and as directed in the instructions manual.
• Before connecting the device to your power supply, make sure that it is switched off and that the electrical voltage specified on the device's type label matches that of your mains power.
• Keep the power cord and the device itself away from heat, hot surfaces, damp and liquids. Avoid touching the plug or power switch with wet or even damp hands, or when you are standing in water.
• Parts that conduct electricity on the device must not come into contact with liquid.
• If the device falls into water, do not try to pick it up. Instead pull the plug out immediately.
• Always make sure that the plug is easily accessible when the device is connected.
• Disconnect the plug from the socket immediately after using the device.
• Never pull on the power cord to disconnect the appliance from the mains. Always pull out the mains plug!
• Do not carry, pull or rotate the device by its power cord.
• Make sure at all times that the power cord does not represent a tripping hazard. The cord should not be kinked, pinched or twisted.

For special people

• Particular care should be taken when using the device in the vicinity of children, people with illnesses, and particularly people with special needs.
• The surface of the appliance is hot. People who are insensitive to heat must be careful when using the appliance.
• Do not leave the device unattended while it is plugged in.
• This device is not designed to be used by persons (including children) with limited physical, sensory or mental abilities, or by persons with insufficient experience and/or knowledge, unless under observation by a person responsible for their safety, or unless they have been instructed in the use of the device.
  Children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the device.
• Do not allow children to play with the clear plastic packaging, as it may pose a risk of suffocation!
• Treatments with the MEDISANA ITM do not replace medical diagnosis or therapy.
• Do not use this device if you are pregnant.
• People fitted with a pacemaker, artificial joints or electronic implants should in all cases consult a doctor before using the device.
• You should not use this device if you are affected by one or more of the following illnesses and conditions: Circulation disorders, varicose veins, open wounds, bruises, broken skin, inflammation of the veins or thrombosis.
• If you feel any pain from use of this device, or find the massage unpleasant, stop the treatment and consult your doctor.

Before operating the device

• Check the device and its power cord carefully for any damage before each use. The device should not be used if it is in any way defective.
• Do not use the device if there is any visible damage to the device itself or to the power cord, if the device is not working flawlessly or if it has been dropped or has fallen into water. To avoid any risk of injury send the device to the service point to be repaired.

Operating the device

• The device is intended for private use only and should not be employed for commercial purposes.
• Use the massage device only for the purpose specified in the instructions for use

• On no account use any device accessories which are not expressly designed for the purpose by the manufacturer.
• While using the red light function, do not place the massager on the same part of the body for too long (max. 1 minute), as this could cause skin rashes or burns.
• Keep the device away from rain and damp. It should not be operated outdoors.
• It is vital to avoid placing, using or storing the device above containers, holding liquids, particularly where the device could fall or be knocked into a bathtub or shower tray.
• Do not use the device in the vicinity of aerosol vapour or at the same time as an oxygen device.
• Do not fall asleep while using the massager on yourself. Using the massager in the same place for a long time can cause complaints and burns.
• Do not use the device underneath bedding or cushions. Under no circumstances should you cover the device during use.
• Do not use the device for more than twenty minutes at a time, and allow it to cool down for about thirty minutes before using it again.
• Avoid using the device directly on the head, bones or joints, on the front of the throat, in the genital area or around the kidneys.
• It is best not to use this device directly before retiring - the massage that it delivers has a stimulating effect and may delay sleep.
• For understandable reasons, the manufacturer cannot bear the costs of any damage that may result from non-compliance with the instructions for use.

Concerning maintenance and cleaning

• You the user should not carry out any work on the device, except for cleaning. To avoid possible injury, do not attempt to repair the device yourself. Contact the service point for all repairs.
• Before cleaning the device, switch it off, unplug it from the socket, and allow it to cool. Never immerse the device in water or other liquids.
• Read the information in the section "Miscellaneous, 4.1 Cleaning and maintenance" on page 15.
• If a defect occurs, do not repair the device yourself. This would automatically invalidate the guarantee. The service point alone should be charged with any repair work.

To ensure that you are able to obtain the results you are looking for and can enjoy using your MEDISANA massage device for a long time to come, we recommend that you read carefully the following information about the use and care of the device.

2.1 Items supplied and packaging

Please check first of all that the device is complete and is not damaged in any way. In case of doubt, do not use the appliance and contact your dealer or your service centre.

The following parts are included:

1 Intensive Massager plus red light ITM
- Point massage and acupressure attachments
- 1 Instruction manual

The packaging can be reused or recycled. Please dispose properly of any packaging material no longer required. If you notice any transport damage during unpacking, please contact your dealer without delay.

WARNING

Please ensure that the polythene packing is kept away from the reach of children! Risk of suffocation!

2.2 What is massage?

Massage is one of the oldest methods of treatment and an important part of physiotherapy. The mechanical treatment of the outer tissues of the body relaxes tense muscles, improves blood circulation and supports the regeneration of tissues. Massage is stimulating, relaxing and helps to eliminate pain of the nerves and muscles.

Massage may also positively effect the vascular system, the inner organs and metabolism.

There are five classic methods of massage: stroke massage, kneading, tapping and vibrating massage as well as rubbing and slapping.

Furthermore, there are other important massage techniques such as manual lymphatic drainage, reflexology, underwater pressure massage, brush massage and finger pressure massage techniques (shiatsu, acupressure).

2.3 How does ITM work?

This specialized massager is based on the principle of tapping massage. Both massage heads, applied to the body part to be massaged, are moving intermittently with a frequency of 20001 to 30001 , resulting in a tapping movement.

If desired, red light can be added through both of the large massage heads. This is a very pleasant heat treatment, which increases the positive effects of the massage. ITM radiates the red light through the skin to the underlying tissues. Thereby, both massage heads get warm but not hot.

The red light of the MEDISANA Intensive Massager creates a particularly pleasant feeling. This singular combination of an intensive massage with red light treatment makes ITM a very effective massager.

3 Operating

3.1 Getting started

Ensure that the appliance is switched off ("0" is visible above the grey switch on the appliance's top side) before plugging into the mains. Then plug into an appropriate socket (230 V).

3.2 Starting the Massager

Push the switch 5 just above the handle with your thumb one notch forward. The appliance switches on and you feel the vibration of the tapping massage. The letter "M" (for massage) is visible.

3.3 Adding red light

Red light can be added by pushing the gray switch 5 another notch forward. The red light comes on and the letter "M/H" (for massage/heat-red light) is visible on the switch.

3.4 Controlling the massage intensity

The massage intensity can be regulated to suit your sensitivity. Just turn the rotary knob 6 above the ON/OFF-switch. You can adjust the massage intensity continuously from a minimum (2000 1 / ) to a maximum (3000 1 / ).

The massage

• You can give yourself or a partner a massage. Switch the unit on as described above and apply to the part of body to be massaged. Do not use pressure; just place it lightly on the body. The massager will do the massaging for you. Do not concentrate on one side of the body for too long (max. 1 minute); rather change the area of massage frequently.
• Choosing the direction of the massage you can decide on the effect: a massage toward the heart relaxes, a massage away from the heart stimulates.
  For a full body massage, please refer to "Safety Information".
  Each session should not be more than 20 minutes. To ensure positive results, please use the massager regularly.
• The application should feel pleasant. In case you experience pain or find the massage disagreeable, please interrupt the session and consult your doctor.
  After treatment, switch the massage device off, pull out the mains plug and let the device cool down.

3.7

Using the attachments

Using the point massage 3 or acupressure attachments 2, the unit can exert pressure on the part of the body being massaged that is similar in nature to that of a fingertip or acupressure massage.

Switch the appliance off. Place the desired massage attachments on massage heads 1 and switch the appliance back on. Carry out the massage as described in Section 3.6.

Caution!

You must not switch on the red light function when using the attachments.

3.8

Switching off the unit

You can switch off the unit by sliding back the grey switch ⑤ until the "0" is visible once more. Once you have finished treatment, unplug the unit from the mains outlet.

4.1 Cleaning and maintenance

• Before cleaning the device, unplug it from the socket, and allow it to cool.
• The device should be cleaned using a soft, slightly dampened cloth, and mild soap if required.
• Do not use harsh cleaning agents or stiff brushes.
• Wait until the device is completely dry before using it again.
• Undo any kinks in the cable.
• You should ideally store the device in its original packaging and keep it in a clean, dry place.

This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

GB 5 Warranty

Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.
3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.
4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non-observance of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear.

1. Liability for direct or indirect consequential losses caused by the unit are excluded even if the damage to the unit is accepted as a warranty claim.
