about the power supply

• Before connecting the device to your power supply, make sure that it is switched off and that the electrical voltage specified on the device's type label matches that of your mains power.
• Keep the power cord and the device itself away from heat, hot surfaces, damp and liquids. Avoid touching the plug or power switch with wet or even damp hands, or when you are standing in water.
• If the device falls into water, do not try to pick it up. Instead pull the plug out immediately.
• Never leave the device unattended when it is plugged into the mains.
• Always unplug the device when it is not in use or if the attachments are being fitted or removed. Always switch the device off first (both sliding switches, 5 and 6, in position 0) before pulling out the plug.

• Do not use any attachments that are not expressly recommended by the manufacturer.
• While using the red light function, do not place the massager on the same part of the body for too long (max. 1 minute), as this could cause skin rashes or burns.
• Keep the device away from rain and damp. It should not be operated out - doors.
• It is vital to avoid placing, using or storing the device above containers holding liquids, particularly where the device could fall or be knocked into a bathtub or shower tray.
• Do not use the device whilst in the bath or the shower.
• Do not use the device underneath bedding or cushions. Under no circumstances should you cover the device during use. Overheating may lead to burns, electric shock or personal injuries.
• Do not fall asleep while using the massager on yourself. Using the massager in the same place for a long time can cause complaints and burns.
• Avoid using the device directly on the head, bones or joints, on the front of the throat, on or near the carotid artery, in the genital area or around the kidneys.
• Do not use the device for more than twenty minutes maximum at a time, and allow it to cool down for about thirty minutes before using it again.
• It is best not to use this device directly before retiring - the massage that it delivers has a stimulating effect and may delay sleep.
• Before cleaning the device, switch it off, unplug it from the socket, and allow it to cool. Never immerse the device in water or other liquids.
• Read the information in the section "Cleaning and care".
• Do not repair the device yourself. This would automatically invalidate the guarantee. The service point alone should be charged with any repair work.

To ensure that you are able to obtain the results you are looking for and can enjoy using your MEDISANA massage device IVW for a long time to come, we recommend that you read carefully the following information about the use and care of the device.

2.1 Items supplied and packaging

Please check first of all that the unit is complete and is not damaged in any way. In case of doubt, do not use the appliance and contact your dealer or your service centre.

The packaging can be reused or recycled. Please dispose properly of any packaging material no longer required. If you notice any transport damage during unpacking, please contact your dealer without delay.

3 Operating

3.1

How does the hand-held massage device work?

The MEDISANA hand-held massage device utilizes what is known as vibration massage, whereby the massage head is subjected to high-frequency oscillation, giving rise to a vibrating motion, which is transferred to the parts of the body being massaged. Red light may be switched on as an option. It is radiated by way of the red heat area ③ on the massage head ①. This special type of heat application accelerates and intensifies the positive massage effect.

Thanks to the unique combination of intensive massage and heat radiation, the vibration massage device makes application both effective and relaxing. In addition, the special soft rubber massage surface ② conveys a pleasant, more gentle massage experience. Self-massage is particularly comfortable due to the rotatable massage head and the flexible handle. The flexible handle ⑧ may be adjusted to any angle desired in order to reach difficult areas. With the rotatable massage head ① it is possible to switch at any time between massage using the soft rubber massage surface ② and one of the three massage attachments ⑨.

Choose between spot massage (a), roller massage (b) and acupressure (c). The two sliding switches, ⑤ and ⑥, make it possible to choose between gentle (⑥ I) and stimulating (⑥ II) massage and to use the device with (⑤ I) or without (⑤ O) additional application of heat.

3.2 Switching the unit on and off

1. Make sure that the MASSAGE switch ⑥ and the HEAT switch ⑤ are in the 0 position, hold the massage device firmly and push the mains plug into a properly installed mains socket intended for this purpose.
2. This device has two settings for massage intensity LOW (I) and HIGH (II). Slide the MASSAGE switch ⑥ into the desired position to switch on the massage function. Slide the MASSAGE switch back to the 0 position to switch the massage function off.

a. Use setting I and apply light pressure to relax and massage hard, tense muscle areas.
b. Once tension has begun to dissipate, select setting II and gradually begin to increase the pressure to stimulate deeper muscle tissue as well.

1. Slide the HEAT switch 5 to position I to turn on the heat function. Slide the HEAT switch back to the 0 position to switch the heat function off.

a. This device includes a special soft rubber massage surface ② which covers a third of the total surface of the heat area ③.

1. Attachment a may be used to perform a spot massage, attachment b to perform a roller massage and attachment c to perform acupressure.

a. Always switch off the device and remove the plug from the mains before changing a massage attachment.
b. Press the desired attachment firmly into position in the mounting on the massage head opposite the soft rubber massage area. Twist the massage head in the opposite direction as necessary.

1. a. The massage head ① may be rotated through 270° by twisting gently.

b. Press the RELEASE button ④ in the handle joint to adjust the angle of the handle ⑧. Adjust the angle by twisting both parts of the articulated joint inwards with the RELEASE button pressed in. Release the button when the desired position has been achieved and the joint will lock in place.

1. Turn the device off and unplug from the mains when not in use. Store in a dry place out of the reach of children. Coil the mains cable loosely and secure with a rubber band.

3.3 Operating time

• You can give yourself or a partner a massage. Switch the unit on as described above and apply to the part of body to be massaged. Simultaneous use of the red light function improves the effectiveness of the massage. Do not concentrate on one side of the body for too long (max. 1 minute); rather change the area of massage frequently.
• Choosing the direction of the massage you can decide on the effect: a massage toward the heart relaxes, a massage away from the heart stimulates.
• For a full body massage, please refer to Safety Information.
• Each session should not be more than 10-15 minutes. To ensure positive results, please use the massager regularly.
• After treatment, switch the massage device off, pull out the mains plug and let the device cool down.

4 Miscellaneous

4.1 Cleaning and care

• Before cleaning the unit, make sure that it is switched off and unplugged from the mains outlet.
• Clean the unit using a soft cloth lightly moistened with a mild soapy solution. Never use abrasive cleaning agents or alcohol.
• When cleaning, never immerse the unit in water and make sure that no water gets into the unit.
• Wait until the device is completely dry before using it again.
• You should ideally store the device in its original packaging and keep it in a clean, dry place.

4.2 Disposal

This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.
3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.
4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non-observance of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear.

1. Liability for direct or indirect consequential losses caused by the unit are excluded even if the damage to the unit is accepted as a warranty claim.
