2. Safety Instructions

Keep this device away from children and unauthorized users.
This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. Children shall be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside the device. Refer to an authorized dealer for service and/or spare parts.
Always disconnect mains power when the device is not in use or when servicing or maintenance activities are performed. Handle the power cord by the plug only.
Do not crimp the power cord and protect it against damage. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. Do not use the device when damage to housing or cables is noticed. Do not attempt to service the device yourself but contact an authorised dealer.

Work Area

  • Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered and dark areas invite accidents.

Electrical Safety

  • Never modify the plug or power cord in any way. Do not use adapters with earthed devices.
  • Avoid any body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, cookers and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose the device to rain or wet conditions. Water entering the device will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When using the device outside, use an extension cable suitable for outside use.
  • If use of the device in humid locations is unavoidable, connect the device to a power supply protected by an RCD (Residual Current Differential) device.

Personal Safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating the device. Do not use the device when you are tired or under influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.
  • Avoid unintentional starting. Make sure the switch is on the off position before plugging the device into the mains and/or fitting the batteries, picking it up or carrying it. Do not carry the device with your finger on the on-off switch. Do not plug in the device with the switch in the on position.
  • Remove any adjusting key before operating the device. A key left attached to the rotating part of the tool can result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper position and balance at all times.
  • Dress in a suitable manner. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep hair, clothing and gloves away from moving parts.
    If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection equipment, make sure that they are connected and used properly.
  • Use the auxiliary handle provided with the device. Hold the device by the insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where cutting accessories may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.
  • Some dust created by power sanding, sawing, grinding, drilling and other construction activities contain chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm. To reduce exposure to harmful chemicals, work in a well-ventilated area with approved protective clothing.

The Device

  • Do not force the device. Use the correct device for your application.
  • Do not use the device if the switch does not make it possible to change from the operating condition to stop and vice versa. Any device which cannot be controlled by the switch is dangerous and should be repaired.
  • Disconnect the power cord before any adjustment, changing an accessory or before storing the device.
  • Keep an idle device out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the device or these instructions to operate it.
  • Maintain the device. Check that there is no misalignment or obstruction of the moving or broken parts, or any other condition that could affect the operation of the device. In the event of damage, have the device repaired before using it.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
  • Use the device, accessories and blades in accordance with these instructions, while taking into account the work conditions and the work to be done.

The Battery/Charger

  • Only recharge with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery may create a risk of fire when used with another battery.
  • Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery. Avoid contact with battery liquid as it may cause irritation or burns. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If battery liquid contacts eyes, additionally seek medical help.
  • Never attempt to open the battery or charger.
  • Do not expose the battery or charger to water or extreme temperatures.

- All modifications of the device are forbidden for safety reasons. Damage caused by user modifications to the device is not covered by the warranty.
- Only use the device for its intended purpose. All other uses may lead to short circuits, burns, electroshocks, crash, etc. Using the device in an unauthorized way will void the warranty.

  • Damage caused by disregard of certain guidelines in this manual is not covered by the warranty and the dealer will not accept responsibility for any ensuing defects or problems.
  • Do not switch the device on immediately after it has been exposed to changes in temperature. Protect the device against damage by leaving it switched off until it has reached room temperature.
  • Keep this manual for future reference.

6. Charging the Battery

WARNING Do not puncture batteries or throw them in fire as they may explode. Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries (alkaline). Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations. Keep batteries away from children.
WARNING Place the device and charger on a flat, non-flammable surface and away from flammable material during charging.
  1. Connect the device to the charger.
  2. Insert the plug of the charger into the mains.
  3. Check the charging status of the device: Red LED: The battery pack is insufficiently charged. Please recharge. Yellow and red LED: The battery has an adequate remaining charge. All LEDs: The battery is fully charged.
  4. Disconnect from the charger and insert in the device. Disconnect the charger from the mains.

7. Using Your Drill

WARNING Before using the device, inspect it to ensure there is no excessive wear. Never use a damaged drill bit.
  1. Make sure the battery is sufficiently charged.
  2. Place the direction switch to the middle position in order to lock the power trigger.
  3. Press the chuck ring towards the device and insert an appropriate bit. Release the chuck.
  4. Place the direction switch at the desired position. Press the power trigger to use the drill.
  5. Adjust the torque if needed.
  6. The handle can also be adjusted. To do so, press and hold the handle locking button while turning the handle. Lock the handle by releasing the handle locking button.

8. Cleaning and Maintenance

  • Keep the ventilation openings clear, clean and dust-free at all times.
  • If the device is running erratically or something unusual occurs during use, immediately switch off the device and unplug from the mains. Inspect the device before using it again. Repair must only be carried out by a qualified technician.
  • If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by a qualified technician.
  • Wipe with a damp cloth to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents or strong detergents.
  • Clean the device and accessories before storing.

Storing

  • Store the device, its accessories and this user manual in the original packaging.
    Always store in a cool and dry place.

General Warranty Conditions Concerning Consumer Products (for EU):

  • All consumer products are subject to a 24-month warranty on production flaws and defective material as from the original date of purchase.

  • Velleman® can decide to replace an article with an equivalent article, or to refund the retail value totally or partially when the complaint is valid and a free repair or replacement of the article is impossible, or if the expenses are out of proportion. You will be delivered a replacing article or a refund at the value of 100% of the purchase price in case of a flaw occurred in the first year after the date of purchase and delivery, or a replacing article at 50% of the purchase price or a refund at the value of 50% of the retail value in case of a flaw occurred in the second year after the date of purchase and delivery.

- Not covered by warranty:

  • all direct or indirect damage caused after delivery to the article (e.g. by oxidation, shocks, falls, dust, dirt, humidity...), and by the article, as well as its contents (e.g. data loss), compensation for loss of profits;

  • consumable goods, parts or accessories that are subject to an aging process during normal use, such as batteries (rechargeable, non-rechargeable, built-in or replaceable), lamps, rubber parts, drive belts... (unlimited list);

  • flaws resulting from fire, water damage, lightning, accident, natural disaster, etc....

  • flaws caused deliberately, negligently or resulting from improper handling, negligent maintenance, abusive use or use contrary to the manufacturer's instructions:

  • damage caused by a commercial, professional or collective use of the article (the warranty validity will be reduced to six (6) months when the article is used professionally);

  • damage resulting from an inappropriate packing and shipping of the article:

  • all damage caused by modification, repair or alteration performed by a third party without written permission by Velleman®.

  • Articles to be repaired must be delivered to your Velleman® dealer, solidly packed (preferably in the original packaging), and be completed with the original receipt of purchase and a clear flaw description.

  • Hint: In order to save on cost and time, please reread the manual and check if the flaw is caused by obvious causes prior to presenting the article for repair. Note that returning a non-defective article can also involve handling costs.

  • Repairs occurring after warranty expiration are subject to shipping costs.

  • The above conditions are without prejudice to all commercial warranties.
