Frequently Asked Questions - MultiMeterPocket Laserliner

How to replace the batteries of the MultiMeterPocket?
Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the device. Insert two AAA (LR03) batteries respecting the indicated polarity. Close the cover. Be sure to remove the batteries if not used for an extended period.
What are the voltage measurement ranges?
DC voltage: 200 mV, 2 V, 20 V, 200 V and 600 V. AC voltage: 2 V, 20 V, 200 V and 600 V. Range selection is automatic.
How to use the non-contact voltage detector?
Place the sensor (near the tip of the device) 5-10 mm from a conductor or socket. If an AC voltage from 100 V to 600 V is present, the display lights up. This tool does not replace a two-pole test.
Why does the multimeter not turn on?
First check the battery condition. Replace if necessary. Make sure the rotary switch is not set to 'OFF'. If the problem persists, the internal fuse may have tripped (see manual).
What does the 'O.L' display mean?
'O.L' stands for 'Open Line' or 'Overload'. It indicates that the measurement circuit is not closed (open) or that the measured value exceeds the selected range.
How to test a diode with this device?
Set the switch to 'Ω' then press 'Mode' once to select diode test. Connect the leads: red to anode, black to cathode. The forward voltage is displayed (approx. 0.5-0.8 V). If 'O.L' is displayed, reverse the leads (blocking).
Does the continuity test work with the device off?
No, the device must be on and the switch set to 'Ω'. Press 'Mode' twice to activate continuity test. An audible signal sounds for resistance below 150 Ω.
How to disable the auto power off function?
The auto power off cannot be disabled. The device turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity. To turn it back on, turn the rotary switch to 'OFF' and then back to the desired function.
What is the accuracy of current measurements?
DC current: ±2.0% of reading + 8 digits. AC current: ±2.5% of reading + 10 digits. Ranges go from 200 µA to 200 mA. Do not exceed 200 mA, otherwise the internal fuse will trip.
Is it possible to measure voltages above 600 V?
No, the maximum allowed voltage is 600 V AC/DC. The overvoltage category is CAT III 1000 V, but this concerns protection against transients, not continuous measurement. Never exceed 600 V.

No currents above 200 mA may be measured in the A/mA range! Currents above this level trigger the automatic fuse in the meter.

8 Voltage detection, non-contact (AC warning)

Fig. H: The non-contact voltage detector integrated in the meter is able to detect AC voltages from 100 V to 600 V. Even when the device is switched off, live cables or cable breaks still have to be reckoned with. Run the voltage sensor along the object to be tested (5 - 10 mm). The display lights up if AC voltage is detected.

Laserliner MultiMeterPocket - Voltage detection, non-contact (AC warning) - 1

Non-contact voltage detection is no substitute for conventional voltage testing. As the device detects an electrical field, it will react even to static charge.

Voltage detection, single-pole phase test

Connect the red test prod to the phase or neutral conductor. The red LED only lights up if the phase conductor is live. This function also works if the device is switched off. When the single-pole phase test is carried out on the outer conductor, the indicator function may be adversely affected under certain conditions (e.g. when insulating personnel protective equipment is used or at insulated locations).

Laserliner MultiMeterPocket - Voltage detection, single-pole phase test - 1

The single-pole phase test is not suitable for checking for zero voltage. To do this, you need to carry out a two-pole phase test.

9 Flashlight function

To switch on the flashlight, press and hold down the corresponding button. The light switches itself off automatically as soon as the button is released.

10 Automatic fuse

The meter is equipped with an electronic auto-reset fuse in all ranges and can intercept switching errors under normal operating conditions. If the electronic fuse trips, de-energise the electrical circuit and disconnect the meter. Rectify the switching error. The device will resume normal operation when restarted.

11 Calibration

The meter needs to be calibrated and tested on a regular basis to ensure it produces accurate measurement results. We recommend carrying out calibration once a year.
