Cooking Instructions
As easy as:
- Select grilling, roasting, cooking or baking method by placing the funnel in the correct position and using the correct accessories. WARNING: When using the barbecue always wear heat-resistant oven gloves to alter the position of the funnel.
- Pre-heat for 5 minutes on with the lid on.
- Place food on the grill, replace the lid and leave until the food is ready. (Refer to the Barbecue Timechart).
- Turn gas control knob to position «OFF» and close gas supply at cylinder.
Below we show the different funnel positions and some of the accessories that you can use. The preparation of food has to be adapted to your taste and needs.
Barbecuing & Roasting

Big Funnel: normal position Grill: Standard position Lid: On
- For roasting joints of meat or whole chicken Preheat on minutes with the lid on. There's no need to turn the food, as the Funnel Barbecue System cooks food quickly and all the way through by providing evenly distributed top and bottom heat. Just place food on the preheated grill, replace the Lid quickly and let the Funnel go to work. By leaving the lid on, your food is being continuously seared all over, and will taste better as more of the juices are sealed in. Always leave some air space around each item being cooked. Roast for approx. 5 to 10 minutes on then reduce to and leave to finish cooking. See «Barbecue Timechart», as these vary greatly depending on size, thickness and type of meat. To avoid any risk we recommend that you use the «Gourmet Check» core temperature sensor for larger pieces of meat.
- For items that cook quickly such as steaks, sausages etc.
Preheat the barbecue on 100 minutes with the lid closed. Open the lid, lay the meat around the edges of the grill and brown quickly all over on 20 then place the meat in the centre of the grill, close the lid, reduce to 30 and leave to finish cooking. Or use our griddle.
Pizza, bread, cakes

Big Funnel: normal position
Grill: standard position
Lid: closed
Optional accessories: pizza tray.
Preheat the barbecue on to 8 minutes. Lay the baking tray containing the pizza, bread or cakes on the grill and close the lid. Cook on as stated in the recipe
WOK

Big Funnel: normal position
Grill: standard position
Lid: closed
Optional accessories: pizza tray.
NOTE: Place the wok support over the inverted funnel. Light the gas and then turn the gas control knob to replace the wok in the support and heat without the lid on before beginning to cook your Chinese or other far Eastern dish.
Cooking on the griddle

Big funnel: inverted position
Grill: remove, replace with
griddle
Lid: remove
Optional accessories: griddle
Ideal for grilling foods with a short cooking time (steaks, sausages etc.) and for pancakes and fried eggs, as the heat is evenly distributed and so meat is sealed all over immediately.
NOTE: brush both sides of the griddle with coo-king oil. Lay the oiled griddle on the inverted funnel. Light the burner, turn the gas control knob to prevent the preheat the griddle for around 10 minutes without a lid before you start cooking.
Cooking with the universal pan

Big Funnel: inverted position
Grill: remove, replace with uni
versal pan
Lid: remove
Optional accessories:
universal pan
Cook foods according to individual instructions.
Leak Test
Barbecue System cooks food quickly and all the way through by providing evenly distributed top and bottom heat. Just place food on the prehea.
- Check that the control knob is turned «OFF».
- Turn the gas cylinder and check all gas connections by brushing on a 50/50 solution of liquid soap and water onto gas delivery system.
- Look for bubbles or blowing in the soap solution which indicate that a leak is present. IMPORTANT! The barbecue must not be used until leak(s) is corrected. Shut off the gas cylinder.
- The leak(s) must be stopped by tightening the joints, if possible, or by replacing the faulty parts recommended by the barbecue distributor.
- Repeat items 1 to 2.
- Contact a corgi registered gas engineer if leaks persist.
NOTE: Conduct a leak test each time the gas supply is connected or replaced and every year when using your barbecue for the first time in the barbecue season.
Cleaning
Very little cleaning is required between uses as most of the fat is either vaporised or drained into the basting pan.
With the cooking grill in position use a brass bristle barbecue brush to clean the surface of the grill. Remove the grill and scrape any built up greasy deposits down the Funnel and into the drip pan for easy disposal. For more thorough cleaning use a nylon sponge and soapy water to remove all loose deposits from the grill and Funnel. You can also use an oven cleaner.
IMPORTANT: After rinsing off the cleaner, dry the barbecue off completely on was most oven cleaners have a rather strong smell.
Regular maintenance
Regular care of your barbecue will help keep it operating properly. Inspect the venturi tube at least twice per year and always after long period of storage: spiders and other insects can cause mixture obstruction with cobwebs etc. Remove all obstructions.
Occasionally inspect and tighten all hardware as this may become loose if the barbecue is moved over rough or hard ground. After a period of non-use you should perform a leak test before using the barbecue. If you are in any doubt contact your gas supplier or the agent responsible for selling the barbecue. Before storing your barbecue for the winter lightly grease all exposed metal parts to prevent corrosion. After winter storage and AT LEAST once more during the season check the hose for cracking, chafing, kinking or other damage. A damage hose MUST be replaced immediately as described in this manual.
To preserve the appearance of your barbecue and be able to enjoy using it for as long as possible we recommend that you treat all wooden parts once a year with a wood oil – this will help to prevent them from distorting or rusting.
To extend the life of your barbecue we recommend the additional protection of an Outdoor Chef cover.
Limited Warranty
Outdoor Chef guarantees against defects in parts and workmanship for a period of 24 months from the date of original purchase. It is a condition of this guarantee that your Outdoor Chef should only be serviced by a authorised gas engineer. No claim under this guarantee will be accepted unless the claim is presented with evidence of purchase. If Outdoor Chef accepts a claim under the terms of this guarantee then we will replace any defective component free of charge. Outdoor Chef will not however under the terms of this guarantee pay for transportation to the dealer concerned and any incidental and consequential damages arising from any claim under this guarantee are hereby expressly excluded.
Safety instructions
Operate the Barbecue following the «Lighting and Operating Instructions».
- The barbecue is for outdoor use only.
- Never place the barbecue under a roof when in use.
- WARNING: Some parts become very hot during use. When in use, keep children out of reach of the barbecue.
- Keep flammable material at a safe distance away from the barbecue.
- Do not move the barbecue when in use.
- Wear protective gloves or a long sleeved barbecue safety MIT (available from your stockist) when operating the barbecue.
- Turn off the gas supply after use on both the barbecue and the gas cylinder.
- When changing the gas cylinder ensure that the gas supply is off on both the barbecue and the gas cylinder and that no combustible materials
are nearby.
• After every gas cylinder replacement, carry out the leak test to ensure that there are no leakages.
- If you think there is a gas leak, turn off the barbecue and gas cylinder immediately and have the fittings checked by a Corgi registered gas engineer.
- If the hose is damaged or perished replace it immediately. The hose must be kept straight at all times. Ensure that it does not bend or kink. Remember to switch off the gas supply on the Barbecue and gas cylinder before removing the hose.
- Outdoor Chef recommends that the gas hose and gas regulator be changed every two to three years.
- Ensure that the air ventilation in the barbecue lid and base remains clear at all times.
- IMPORTANT: Ensure that the gas hose is routed away from the hot barbecue surfaces and that it is not kinked or twisted.
- Do not change or alter any of the barbecue components or settings.
- Important: Ensure the correct regulator is used: 28 mbar Butane (not supplied but available locally), 37 mbar fixed (not adjustable) Propane (not supplied but available locally).
- Only use the barbecue on firm, safe, non-flammable surface.
- Never store the barbecue near flammable liquids or materials.
- Not for use with mains gas. Use Butane or Propane bottled gas only (7/6 kg cylinders).
- The gas cylinder must be stored in an open, well ventilated situation out of the reach of children.
- Never store a gas cylinder (full or empty) indoors.
- To protect the barbecue from the elements, it should be covered with a genuine Outdoor Chef cover.
- Always ensure that your barbecue has cooled down before covering it.
Trouble shooting
• Gas does not enlighten
- Check if the gas tank tap is opened. 2. Make sure there is enough gas in the tank. 3. Ascertain yourself that a spark is jumping from the electrode to the burner.
- No spark
- Ensure that the battery is inserted properly.
- The distance between the burner and the electrode should maximum be 5 – 8 mm. 3. Make sure the wire is plugged in the electric ignition and in the electrode and that they both are sitting tight.
- Insert a new battery (typ AAA / 1.5 Volt) in the electric ignition.
If you could not start the grill after above mentioned trouble shouting please contact your local dealer.
