Frequently Asked Questions - EESB55 GRE

What is the ideal salt level for the Gre EESB55 electrolyzer?
The recommended salt level is 4.0 g/L. The minimum is 3.2 g/L. Check periodically and adjust if necessary.
How to adjust chlorine production?
Use the potentiometer on the housing: turn from 0 (off) to 100 (maximum production). Start at 100 for 24 hours for first startup, then reduce to 75 during normal operation.
Why is the red LED flashing?
A flashing red LED indicates a fault, generally a scaled electrode (too much limescale). Clean the electrode with a solution of water and hydrochloric acid (80/20) and check salt level and pH.
What pH should be maintained for pool water with this electrolyzer?
The pH must be below 7.6. A pH that is too high reduces chlorine efficiency and can foul the electrode.
How to install the electrolyzer housing?
Mount the housing on a wall, sheltered from weather and sun. Electrical connection must be made by a qualified electrician, on the filtration pump contactor via a 4 A fuse holder. Comply with standard NF C 15-100.
What is the lifespan of the electrode?
The electrode is a wear part. Its lifespan depends on salt level, temperature, and maintenance. Under normal conditions, it can last several seasons. Replace it if it is too scaled or if production drops.
Can the electrolyzer be used in cold weather?
No, do not operate the electrolyzer if water temperature is below 15 °C. In winter, cut off power and if filtration continues, remove the electrode from the cell housing and replace it with the supplied plug.
How to descale the electrode?
Disassemble the electrode and immerse it in a solution of 80% water and 20% hydrochloric acid until deposits dissolve. Rinse thoroughly before reassembling.
What to do after adding chemicals to the pool?
Always stop the electrolyzer before adding chemicals. Wait for them to completely dissolve before restarting. Avoid incompatible PHMB polymers.
Is polarity reversal automatic?
Yes, polarity reversal occurs automatically every 4 hours to prevent excessive electrode scaling. You can also reverse it manually by setting the potentiometer to 0 for 2 minutes.

Salt concentrationRecommended4,0 g/l
Minimum3,2 g/l
pHRecommended less than7,6
TACRecommended between10 et 15 °F
StabilizerBetween20 à 80 g/m3
Recommended40 g/m3
Water temperatureDo not operate when water is colder than15°C.
Chlorine concentrationBetween 0,5 and 2,5 ppm
Connection230 volts-50/60 Hz, P. maxi 100W and must be controlled by the filter pump.

3. Installation of the unit

Fixing and electrical connections

Before connecting and electrical energization, the unit must fix to a wall of plant room via the attachment holes in each corner, using the supplied screws and plugs. Make sure it is protected from the weather, avoid direct exposure to sunlight.

The electrical connection must be performed by a qualified electrician and comply with NF C 15-100 (2002 edition).

  • The powder supply to the unit:

The system must work at the same time as the filtration pump.

The connection is then made to the filtration pump's contactor via a 4A fuse box.

A chlorinator that is directly connected to a 230 VAC power supply could damage the components of the hydraulic circuit and will not be covered by the warranty.

(Recall, to set the time of filtration, the commonly used formula is equal to the water temperature ÷ 2.

Example: For 28^ water filtration time will be 14 hours).

Power of salt electrode: connect the cable for this purpose. Correctly tighten the nuts. A badly tightened connection will result overheating.

Precautions to be taken before the intervention on the unit:

Isolate the electrical system using a separation device such as energy

  • Circuit breaker or disconnect switch.

Device to be installed for protection against short circuits or overcurrent

  • Type differential switch 30mA (power to adopt following the installation).

The caliber of the protection device may not exceed 4 A.

  • Fixed red led: No production, unit to standby potentiometer between 0% and 25% . Wait at least 2 minutes after the standby before putting the unit into production.
  • Fixed green led: in production between 25% and 100% . Use the potentiometer to get the desired level of chlorine.
  • blinking red led: Default (See Chapter 7 Electrode calcified)

5. Putting into service

Before any operation, pool's water has to be crystalline. Use flocculent if necessary and filter the water then clean your filter.

Stapes to follow for the first start of the device:

a) Turn potentiometer to 100 leaving the filtration 24h / 24 until the desired chlorine level (minimum 0.5ppm ) is reach.
b) Put back automatic filtration and turn potentiometer to 75.
c) Adjust production using the potentiometer according to the level of chlorine desired.

6. Indoor pools or pools with covers

If swimming pool water is not exposed to UV rays, then the chlorine content may become excessive and therefore corrosive.

It should significantly reduce the production of your electrolyzer when the pool is covered (minimum 50% ).

7. Chlorine analysis method

The analysis should be made at approximately the same time and the same place (at a point equidistant between the backflow and the skimmer). The chlorine produced by your salt chlorinator is very volatile and the reading of its content may vary according to different parameters (UV, number of bathers, organic matter, etc.). If there are an exceptionally high number of bathers, then we advise you to switch the filtration to manual mode in order to compensate for chlorine deficit.

8. Checks and maintenance

- Adding salt:

Check the salt level (usually once or twice a week). If the concentration is less than 4g / l , add salt by the calculation next:

$$ Q = (4 - T) \times V $$

Q = quantity of salt to be added in Kg 4 = salt content to be respected T = measured salt content in the pool V = volume of the pool in m3

- Adding chemical products:

Always stop the device before adding chemical products directly to the pool. Wait for the chemical products to dissolve before turning the salt chlorinator on again.

Presence of hydrogen peroxide: This product cancels the chlorine reading for approximately 3 weeks.

The sterilizer produced by your chlorinator is compatible with most swimming-pool water treatment products, with the exception of those containing PHMB polymers. In all cases, stop the chlorinator while you add products and until they have been completely dissolved.

- Wintering:

If the filtration of the pool is maintained during the winter months, we recommend turning the chlorinator off when the temperature falls below 15^ .

- Checking chlorine level:

This material is by no means a chlorine regulator. The chlorine level can vary significantly depending on the temperature, attendance, chemicals introduced into the pool water...

A regular control of chlorine in the pool water is necessary. Adjust chlorine production if needed in accordance with paragraph 4.

Warning:

If you later add a shelter over your pool, such as a telescopic shelter, remember to adjust chlorine production if necessary by reducing the power delivered to the electrode.

The electrode must have a clean appearance without lime scale encrustations. If need be, descale the electrode by placing it in a solution containing 80% water and 20% chlorhydric acid. Then check why the electrode got encrusted:

Salt concentration too low
- Setting too low potentiometer
- Unit inversion fault
pH too high

These anomalies are indicated by the blinking red led.

- Cleaning the pool drainage filter:

Stop the chlorinator during any handling of the filter's valve: cleaning, rinsing, emptying...

9. Instructions for use of the electrode

The electrode is a wear part which depends on the following factors longevity:

Rate of salt :

Never operate the electrolyzer with a salt content of less than 3.2g / l

Water temperature and wintering :

Cut operation as soon as the water temperature drops to 15^ .

If continuous filtration during the cold period, remove the electrode from the vase and replace the plug supplied for this purpose.

- Settings

Adjust chlorine production using the potentiometer and according to the desired rate.

- Reverse polarity :

Polarity reversal is carried out every 4 hours. To manually reverse the polarity of the potentiometer set the cursor to 0. Wait 2 minutes before repositioning the button to the desired level of production.

10. The chemical reaction of the electrolyzer

The electrode under the action of the electric current dissociates molecule of salt (NaCl) chlorine ions (NaOCl) and sodium.

The chlorine ions (sodium hypochlorite - NaOCl), in contact with water (H2O), is divided into chlorine (hypochlorous acid - HOCI) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH). It is the active chlorine (the hypochlorous acid - HOCI), which is the active ingredient and disinfectant

11. Warranty

The electrolysis unit is warranted by the manufacturer against manufacturing faults for a minimum period of 2 years counting from the delivery date.

Electrode: minimum 2 year warranty. This warranty does not cover breakdowns caused by negligence, improper use, improper installation, modification, disassembly, corrosion, failure to undertake maintenance or wintering, misuse, flooding, lightning strike or damage following a fall or blow.

Return all equipment for overhaul or repair is postage paid by the user.

The manufacturer reserves the right to change, without prior notice, shape, design or appearance of products.
