Power supply

• Before connecting the device to your mains adapter, make sure that it is switched off and that the electrical voltage specified on the device's type label matches that of your mains power.
• Always make sure that the plug is easily accessible when the device is connected.
• Only use the mains adapter supplied for the massager.
• Keep the the cable and the massage seat away from heat, hot surfaces, moisture and liquids. Never get hold of the power plug with wet hands.
• Do not take hold of a device if it falls into water. Pull out the power plug from the socket immediately.
• Always unplug the equipment immediately after use.

• To disconnect the unit from the mains adapter, always pull the plug out of the socket. Do not pull on the cable!

• Do not carry, pull or twist the massage seat on the cable.

• You must not continue to use the unit if the lead is damaged. For safety reasons the mains adapter unit has to be replaced. In order to prevent hazards, always send the unit in to the service centre.
• Ensure that the cable will not cause tripping. The cable must not be kinked, trapped or twisted.

For special people

• This appliance can be used by children aged from 8 years and above and persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and understand the hazards involved.
  Children shall not play with the appliance.
• Do not use this unit to supplement or replace medical treatment. Chronic complaints and symptoms may be made worse.

• You should refrain from using the Shiatsu massage cushion, or should consult your doctor before using it, if

• you are pregnant,

• you have a cardiac pacemaker, artificial joints or electronic implants,

• you suffer from one or more of the following illnesses and complaints: Circulation disorders, varicose veins, open wounds, bruises, broken skin, inflammation of the veins.

• Do not use the appliance near your eyes or near any other sensitive areas.

• Take care when using the heater. Do not use if you have circulatory problems or on areas not sensitive to heat. Risk of burning!
• The surface of the appliance is hot. People who are insensitive to heat must be careful when using the appliance.
• If you experience any pain or discomfort during the massage, stop immediately and consult your doctor.
• Consult your doctor if you have any questions concerning the therapeutic use of massage cushions.
• Please ensure that the polythene packing is kept away from the reach of children! Risk of suffocation!

Operating the device

• Always carefully inspect the cable and the massage cushion for damage before use. Do not attempt to use a defective unit.
• Do not use the unit if there are visible signs of damage on the unit or the cable components, the unit does not work properly or the cushion has been dropped or become damp. In order to prevent hazards, always send the unit in to the service centre.
• The massage seat must only be used for its intended purpose as described in the instruction manual.
• Using the unit for any other purpose invalidates the warranty.
• Never leave the unit unattended if it is connected to the mains adapter.
• The maximum operating time for one session is 15 minutes.
• Do not allow the massage cushion to come into contact with pointed or sharp objects.
• Do not operate this unit near high frequency electromagnetic sources.
• Never put the unit down next to an electric stove or other sources of heat.
• Do not stand on the unit.

Maintenance and cleaning

The unit is maintenance free.
- You may only clean the device yourself. Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself in the event of any defects. Not only does this render the warranty null and void but you can also run the risk of serious hazards (fire, electric shock, injury). Only have repairs carried out by authorised service points.
- Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children without supervision.
- The textile covering of the main appliance cannot be removed.
- Do not immerse the device in water or other fluids.
- If, nonetheless, liquid should penetrate the device, unplug the mains adapter immediately.

2.1 Items supplied and packaging

Please check first of all that the device is complete and is not damaged in any way. In case of doubt, do not use the appliance and contact your dealer or your service centre.

The packaging can be reused or recycled. Please dispose properly of any packaging material no longer required.

If you notice any transport damage during unpacking, please contact your dealer without delay.

2.2 What is Shiatsu massage?

Shiatsu is a form of finger pressure massage and one of the most important massaging techniques along with manual lymphatic drainage and reflexology. Gentle stroking and beneficial pressure application techniques are used to awaken life forces and encourage them to flow through the body. The object of the massage is not just to ease tension, but also to optimise the flow of life force and harmonise body and soul.

2.3 How does the MEDISANA Shiatsu massage cushion work?

Your MC 840 shiatsu massage cushion is a state-of-the-art device for genuine shiatsu-style neck and back massages. It is also suitable for massaging your feet and legs. The MC 840 shiatsu massage cushion has four rotating heads which rotate in opposite pairs. While the left pair, arranged on a rotating plate, turn clockwise, the right pair, also arranged on a rotating plate, turn anticlockwise.

With the 5 and 6 buttons you can switch between both directions of rotation. Pressing button 7 you can also switch on the heating function with the massage. The heat is radiated through the massage heads 2. The combination of intensive shiatsu massage and radiated heat makes the massage cushion an effective and relaxing treatment.

2.4 Operating the unit

• Place the shiatsu massage cushion 1 on the back of a high-backed chair and fasten it to the back with the strap.
• Sit on the chair and check that the cushion is in the position you want.
• Connect the power unit 8 and the massage cushion and plug in the power unit to the mains. Ensure that the mains adapter is easily accessible.
• Switch on the device by pressing Power button 4. The power LED illuminates
• Press the Forward button to activate the massage function with outward rotation. The Forward LED lights up. To change the direction of rotation, press the Reverse button. The Forward LED goes out and the Reverse LED lights up. To switch off the massage function, press the button you last pressed (5 or 6) again. The massage can also be started in the other direction.
• The heat function can be activated at any time with the shiatsu massage. Press the Heat button to activate the function; the LED lights up. The heat is radiated through the massage heads. Press the Heat button again to deactivate the heat function: the LED goes out.
• Press the Power button 4. The power LED goes out.
• After each use, switch the device off using the Power button 4 and remove the power unit from the mains socket.

3 Miscellaneous

3.1 Cleaning and maintenance

• Before cleaning the unit, make sure it is switched off and disconnected from the mains. Clean the unit once it has cooled down using a soft, damp cloth.
• Under no circumstances should you use aggressive detergents, strong brushes, solvents or alcohol, as they may damage the surface of the unit.
• When cleaning, never immerse the unit in water and make sure that no water gets into the unit.
• Wait until the device is completely dry before using it again.
• Undo any kinks in the cable.
• You should ideally store the device in its original packaging and keep it in a clean, dry place.

3.2 Disposal

This product must not be disposed of together with domestic waste.

All users are obliged to hand in all electrical or electronic devices, regardless of whether or not they contain toxic substances, at a municipal or commercial collection point so that they can be disposed of in an environmentally acceptable manner.

Consult your municipal authority or your dealer for information about disposal.

Warranty and repair terms

Please contact your dealer or the service centre in case of a claim under the warranty. If you have to return the unit, please enclose a copy of your receipt and state what the defect is.

The following warranty terms apply:

1. The warranty period for MEDISANA products is three years from date of purchase. In case of a warranty claim, the date of purchase has to be proven by means of the sales receipt or invoice.
2. Defects in material or workmanship will be removed free of charge within the warranty period.
3. Repairs under warranty do not extend the warranty period either for the unit or for the replacement parts.
4. The following is excluded under the warranty:

a. All damage which has arisen due to improper treatment, e.g. non-observance of the user instructions.
b. All damage which is due to repairs or tampering by the customer or unauthorised third parties.
c. Damage which has arisen during transport from the manufacturer to the consumer or during transport to the service centre.
d. Accessories which are subject to normal wear and tear.

1. Liability for direct or indirect consequential losses caused by the unit are excluded even if the damage to the unit is accepted as a warranty claim.
