Serious injury or death caused by burning, fire, explosion Moreover, imperceptible residual dangers can arise, despite observing all measures intended to avoid such. Safety instructions

Please keep these safety instructions safely! The unit should only be used for the purpose for which it is intended. All local rules and regulations relating to the use of this unit should be observed. Never use the heater near petroleum, paint solvents or other highly flammable vapours. Do not use the heater in locations where there is a high atmospheric dust volume. The hot or operating heater should be positioned on a secure, level surface to avoid the danger of fire. Keep children and pets away from the heater. Ensure that the opening at the foot of the unit remains unclosed to ventilate the gas bottle chamber. Do not cover the foot of the terrace heater with a cloth, floor covering or other materials. Close the gas valve on the gas bottle if the burner has been unintentionally deactivated. Wait 3 minutes before switching the unit on again. This will allow any gas clouds which have formed to dissipate. Compare the information on the nameplate to ascertain that it complies with your situation. Ensure that you have received the correct pressure regulator. Contact your supplier if in doubt. When placing radiant heater avoid head winds for burner. Otherwise heating power is reduced from wind force 3 (3.4 - 5.4 m/s, 12 - 19 km/h). Contact customer service, the manufacturer or your supplier should problems arise during assembly, maintenance or operation. Before moving or transporting, deactivate the unit and close the gas valve on the gas bottle. Do not use the terrace heater in cellars or other subterranean locations. Gas clouds can form on the floor of such rooms/locations in the event of a leak.

Assembly Assemble the terrace heater in the open air or in spaces which could be regarded as outdoor spaces (terraces, roofed-over areas, market stands and similar)

Check that there is adequate ventilation to the open air. Do not use the heater in enclosed spaces or spaces which could be enclosed. The radiant terrace heater should only be used for heating persons in the open air or in spaces which could be regarded as outdoor spaces. The open wall surface must be at least 25% (see “Correct use”).22 When placing radiant heater avoid head winds for burner. Otherwise heating power is reduced from wind force 3 (3.4 - 5.4 m/s, 12 - 19 km/h). Ensure that units operated in the vicinity of flammable surfaces (e.g. projecting roofs, sunshades or sun umbrellas, etc.) are at a safe distance from these objects. The recommended clearance from the reflector to such objects is 1.5 m. Use non-flammable roofing material. Ensure that roofing material is secured safely to protect it from igniting or prevent it from touching or knocking over the terrace heater under windy conditions. The terrace heater can be used without any problems in short, light showers of rain. However, the unit should brought inside during heavy or longer, continuous rainfall. Ensure that the unit cannot be blown over in bad weather or strong winds.

Gas bottles Use only propane gas bottles with a full weight of 11 kg. Always have a gas bottle inserted in the foot of the terrace heater. Even an empty bottle gives the heater the necessary stability.

Never store empty bottles in the house. Observe local regulations in this respect. Ensure that your new gas bottle is fitted with a gas valve so that the gas supply to the terrace heater can be interrupted. The pressure regulator provided cannot be used for switching off the unit, as it does not have a CLOSED/OPEN feature. Insertion and changing of gas bottles Always insert and change gas bottles in the open air in an adequately-ventilated location (e.g. in the wind). Secure the gas bottle against slipping with a chain.

Ensure that no sources of ignition or combustion are in the vicinity of the heater (e.g. cigarettes, candles, other radiant heaters, etc.). Screw the gas valve on the gas bottle completely shut and wait until the terrace heater extinguishes before changing the gas bottle. Gas valve Pressure controller (left-hand thread)

Then turn the adjusting knob on (burner off). (See page 23 for operation of the adjusting knob.)

Adjusting knob Unscrew the pressure controller from the gas bottle and connect to the new bottle.

Check the above-mentioned connection with leak spray or lukewarm, soapy water to ensure that no gas leaks are present (bubbles form in the event of a leak). See also “Inspection for leaks” in the operating manual. Check that the gas hose is in perfect condition during every gas bottle changing. Replace or have replaced if in doubt.

Gas hose and pressure regulator The patio heater is supplied together with corresponding hose or hose with pressure controller If your patio heater is only equipped with a hose, please contact a dealer to obtain the necessary pressure controller. The pressure controller must comply with DIN EN 12864, the technical specifications (gas pressure p – see nameplate – and gas flow rate min. 1.5 – 2.0 kg/h) and the hose supply

Use the hose supplied by the manufacturer. The hose has been tested for a service life of 3 – 5 years (when used correctly) (depending on climatic conditions) and must be replaced by a new hose at the end of this period. Preferably the gas hose should be replaced every 3 years. Check the hose regularly (approx. once a month) and when changing the bottle for any signs of hairline cracks or other damage. Always change hose or pressure controller immediately when damaged. Please contact your dealer or the manufacturer.23 When ordering the hose or hose with pressure controller as spare part, please state the prescribed gas pressure p (e.g. 30 mbar – see nameplate) and country code (e.g. NL). The screw thread is left-handed, i.e. the direction of rotation is different than in conventional screw threads. Never replace the gas hose and pressure controller by another model. In this case, safety can no longer be guaranteed and the manufacturer is not liable for any possible damage and collateral damage. Avoid twisting or buckling the hose. Check the hose regularly for drying out, signs of hairline cracks or other damage.

Operating Igniting the burner:

Open the gas valve on the gas bottle. Ignite the unit by

1. pressing in the adjusting knob on the burner

2. holding the adjusting knob and turning it to

the burner has ignited

3. releasing the adjusting knob after approximately

10 seconds. Repeat the procedure described above if the burner extinguishes again. Heat development can be controlled with the adjusting knob. High heat development Low heat development Burner off The adjusting knob should be pressed in somewhat to regulate from low to high heat development.

Correct burning The unit is burning properly if no flames are visible beyond the mesh. The mesh begins to glow bright red as soon as the unit has reached the specified temperature (the colour depends on the position of the gas regulator). The gas supply is turned off after approximately 60 seconds in the event of the heater being extinguished. Wait another 3 minutes for gas clouds to dissipate.

Gas is extremely flammable, and the smell of gas can be detected immediately. Close the gas valve immediately as soon as you detect the smell of gas. Refrain from igniting any naked flames and ensure that no sparks are generated in the vicinity of the terrace heater. Ventilate the area well. Switching off the burner

Press the adjusting knob in and turn to to switch off the burner. Close the gas valve on the gas bottle.

Adjusting the angle of the burner head

Depressing the burner head to the lowest position Turn the adjusting knob in an anticlockwise direction

Highest burner head position Turn the adjusting knob in a clockwise direction

Maintenance and care

Observe the following to retain the radiant terrace heater in a functional condition: Clean the terrace heater regularly with a damp cloth or lukewarm, soapy water. Do not clean the gas burner with water. Have the terrace heater inspected once a year for deficiencies by an authorised specialist. The following instructions are intended primarily for maintenance work carried out by a specialist: Brush the mesh on the burner carefully with a soft brush. It can also be subject to subsequent cleaning with a vacuum cleaner if necessary. Never use liquid. Check that the injector is clean. Clean with a soft brush if dirty. Never clean the aperture in the injector with a sharp object, as this will definitely damage the injector. Check that the venturi tube and burner pipe are clean. We recommend cleaning these components with a pipe cleaner if they are dirty. Removing the casing 413018 (see spare parts illustration) allows you to remove the injector and air supply brackets, facilitating access to the above-mentioned parts. Replace the parts again in accordance with instructions. Always check individual parts for gas leaks after maintenance and repair (see “Inspection for leaks”).24 The terrace heater is equipped with a thermo element. The position of this component is important for both the perfect functioning of the unit and safety reasons. The position of the thermo element should for this reason not be altered. Defective components The unit has been designed so that component parts function perfectly if used in a correct manner. Please contact your supplier should defects be detected and have the defective part replaced.

Storage Remove the gas bottle from the foot of the unit if the unit has been in storage for a longer period of time. Store the unit in a dry and dust-free environment. Wrap the upper part of the heater (burner / reflector / upper part of the stand) in a knotted plastic sack.

Inspection for leaks

The radiant heater should be switched off immediately on detecting a gas leak or the smell of escaping gas. Close the gas valve on the gas bottle. Do not use the radiant heater as long as the cause has not been detected and remedied. Always use gas leak spray or soapy water when searching for a gas leak. Bubbles will form where a leak is present.

Never search for leaks with a naked flame. Check all connections and hoses carefully in the open air. Store the unit in the open air if the cause of the leak cannot be established. Contact an authorised specialist.
